The last lyrics of “My Clematis” rang out and echoed through the stage. Mizi and Sua’s ears filled with the horrifying sound of deafening applause from the aliens. The aliens that took over Earth, that forced them to sing, the aliens that doomed all of mankind. “The same aliens who would be the cause for one of our deaths” Mizi thought, painfully. The very sound of aliens brought a sick feeling to her stomach. Mizi’s usually cheery, bright green eyes, met Sua’s with tears threatening to fall. Their hearts raced as they watched the scores rapidly change. Sua sadly looked up at her lover, Mizi. “I love you so much, Mizi”, Sua whispered to her. “I love you more than you’ll ever know.” Please God, if anyone dies, let it be me. The thought of losing someone, of losing her is something I cannot imagine. Sua thought, in the final moments before the scores fully finished.
“I love you too, Sua, my heart.” She whispered back to her voice breaking on the word Sua. She was desperate for the impossible, for them both to survive. It won’t happen though, she thought bitterly, and it hurt to think about. It felt as if she was being stabbed right in the heart. When the scores finished, Mizi’s knees gave out and she crouched on the floor, crying. A second passed, then a few more. Yet she heard…nothing? But then there was crying. “Oh my god she’s dead, no, no, NO!” Mizi felt her heart break into two pieces, tears flowing down her face in denial. But there wasn’t any gunshots…? Mizi looked up at Sua hoping, no, praying to see her. And then she saw, her love, her heart, her universe,…she was there. Crying, shocked, alive.
“Mizi, Mizi, we…we tied! We’re alive…oh my god.” Sua said, breathless. And suddenly the tears on both of their faces weren’t of grief, of sadness, but of happiness and overwhelming joy. Mizi saw an overjoyed smile on Sua’s face, and it made her so grateful to be able to see that amazing smile again. While there was a lingering panic, and a broken feeling in Mizi’s heart, the feeling was so much better than any gunshot could bring.
Sua lunged for Mizi, laying on top of her and sobbing into her shoulder. The sound of their crying was blocked out by the crowd’s boos. But Sua didn’t care, in fact it was the last thing on her mind. “Mizi…Mizi don’t ever leave me, please, I don’t think I could handle it. That-that was so scary..” Sua said, frantically. This was never something she’d say usually, but she was speaking out of pure fear and desperation. Mizi was just so relieved that she and her better half were alive. Especially after looking death right in the face. She was frozen with fear and relief, while she felt those wretched aliens put their collars back on. While they would be going back to their bad lives, Mizi will be eternally grateful that Sua is still here to be with her to make this hell a lot more bearable.
