Work Text:

Harkness woke up in Stebbins’ bed, memories of the last night flooding into his head as he let out a small groan. He flipped fully onto his stomach as he reached for his glasses on the bedside stand. He didn’t wanna get up but he knew he had to. He looked at the small alarm clock next to him. 9:47 a.m. Harkness rubbed his eyes tiredly before he pushed himself out of bed and opened the door. He was met by Stebbins in the kitchen, cooking what seemed to be eggs and toast.

Harkness forced his legs to move fighting against the nervous pit in his stomach. They definitely had to talk about last night. Stebbins kissed him at Ray’s party, and now they were here. It wasn’t irregular for Harkness to be over since they were roommates.

“Mornin’ Richie.” Stebbins greeted, somehow aware of his presence. “Good morning!” Harkness replied, cheery as usual. He was always such a morning person and Stebbins was quite the opposite yet he was up making breakfast.

“I wanted to talk about last night,” Stebbins started as he turned down the heat on the stove so the eggs wouldn’t burn. Harkness knew they had to talk, but he couldn’t help feeling uneasy.

“I really like you if that isn’t obvious by now.” He said with a nervous laugh, his eyes on the ground. “I don’t want you to think I was just drunk and saying stupid stuff I didn’t mean. I do want you, and wanna do all that sappy couples shit with you.” he rambled on. Harkness decided to stop his rambling by pulling him into a kiss.

Stebbins was shocked but placed his hands on the dip of his waist. “Well, I guess that answers one thing.” He laughed out breathlessly. “So…boyfriends..?” Stebbins asked, looking down at him with hopeful eyes. “Boyfriends,” Harkness repeated with a nod. Stebbins smiled and immediately leaned down and snatched another kiss.

He stayed there for a good while before pulling away to focus on the food. Harkness was a little bit of the clingy type so he wrapped his arms around Stebbins's torso and pressed the side of his face into his back. He only smiled in response and continued cooking. Soon the eggs were done and he turned off the stove and went to grab plates but remembered he had Harkness attached to him.

“Go sit down,” Stebbins ordered, nodding over at the island they had with the high chairs. Harkness slipped his arms away and went to sit down as Stebbins grabbed two plates. He made sure his food wasn’t touching because he knew the boy didn’t like it when his food touched. Stebbins learned a lot about him from being his roommate for a year and a half. Harkness was a little more high-maintenance than he would seem. He liked things a certain way and would get upset if they weren’t, but Stebbins didn’t mind one bit though. He did when they first started living together but he was an asshole then. He still was, but he was at least considerate of Harkness’ needs.

Harkness shivered from the cold feeling of the metal chair as he sat down. He’d never get used to that feeling. He was from Alaska but ever since he came to Maine he’s hated the cold. He’s adapted to the weather here and always wears hoodies around the house. Stebbins placed his plate down in front of him and then took a seat next to him. They sat in silence as they ate but it was a comfortable silence. They both weren’t talkative while eating unless it was something important like ‘I’m going grocery shopping in 30 minutes’ or something.

They finished their food and Stebbins swiftly took Harkness’ plate with a small, “I’ll get it.” He quickly washed them and put them back in the cabinets before turning around and seeing Harkness already on the couch scrolling through notifications on his phone.

“Your brother was blowing up my phone last night, I guess.” He mumbled as he felt Stebbins behind him. “Which one?” He asked as he moved to take a seat next to him, his arm swinging onto the back of the couch. Harkness leaned into his side before replying, “Barkovitch, he’s asking if I'm dating you, said he saw me flirting with you on the couch. okay so he’s just nosy.” Stebbins scoffed as he saw the texts. “I love him, but jeez does he love drama.” He sighed. He and Barkovitch didn’t always have a steady relationship and used to fight constantly until last year when they made up. They were still of course working on patching up the broken relationship but he loved his ass of a little brother.

“Well if anyone’s gonna tell him we’re together it’s gonna be you. You're his brother.” Harkness stated as he looked up at the blonde boy. Stebbins sighed but pulled out his phone. “Don’t blow up Richie’s phone, and so you know you’re not missing out on anything we just started dating today.” He quickly texted and then put his phone down. He wrapped his arm around Harkness and pulled him closer, pressing a kiss to his head. “Now we’re gonna have to tell everyone we’re dating.” Harkness groaned into his neck, not wanting to go through the hassle. “Hey, you should be flaunting the fact that you got me.” Stebbins joked with a big grin.
