Chapter Text
"Leave him ALONE!" I ran up from the lake's edge towards the group of boys. "All right, Evans?" Potter's stupid hand moved up to his hair to mess it up like he usually did. "Leave him alone." I repeated. "What's he done to you?" Potter looked towards Black for a second with a disbelieving scoff. "Well, It's more the fact he exists, if you know what I mean..." He spoke down slowly to me as if he were talking to a two year old. Most of the onlookers nearby laughed at his comment, including his stupid friends. Only myself and Remus were the only ones not laughing.
"You think you're funny." I rolled my eyes. "But you're just an arrogant, bullying toerag, Potter. Leave him alone." He let out a little giggled before quickly responding. "I will if you go out with me, Evans." This man's audacity made me roll my eyes again. At this rate, they'd roll to the back of my head. "Go on... Go out with me and I'll leave lay a wand on old Snivelly again." Behind him, the jinx on Severus was wearing off and was crawling towards his wand as he spit out soap bubbles.
"I wouldn't go out with you if it was a choice between you and the giant squid." A couple people watching laughed at my retort, even Potter's best friend Black tried to stifle a giggle. "Bad luck, Prongs." Black put his hand on Potter's shoulder for a second before turning back to Severus. "OI!" But before he could do anything, Severus was pointing his wand towards Potter and managed to his him with a spell, a gash appeared on Potter's face as blood splattered on him. Potter quickly retorted back and hit Severus back, he hung upside down in the air, his robes falling over his head and revealing his skinny, hairy legs and grey underwear.
Many people in the crowd cheered as Potter's group of idiots laughed like it was the funniest thing ever. My voice raised again at him as my face contorted with rage. "Let him down!" Potter looked back at me with a smirk. "Certainly." He suddenly pulled away his wand, making Severus fall to the ground. Severus quickly untangled himself and stood to his feet with his wand in hand before Black quickly hit him with a curse. "Petrificus Totalus!"
"LEAVE HIM ALONE!" I shouted at them again, but louder as I now had my own wand out. Potter and Black stared at me cautiously. "Ah, Evans, don't make me hex you." Potter said with conviction. "Take the curse off him then!" Potter sighed as if I just asked him to recite the Bible (He wouldn't even know what that is) and turned to Severus and muttered the counter-curse. "There you go." He said as Severus got to his feet, I rushed over to him to check on him. "You're lucky Evans was here, Snivellus-"
"I don't need help from filthy Mudbloods like her!" I stopped in my tracks, blinking at him with a hint of shock and honestly a little bit of hurt. "Fine, I won't bother in future. And I'd wash your pants if I were you, Snivellus." I stepped away from him as Potter suddenly pointed his wand at Snape, shouting at him. "Apologise to Evans!" I stepped closer to Potter, staring up at him. "I don't want you to make him apologise. You're as bad as he is."
Potter looked at me as if I had grown three heads as he yelped back, defending himself. "What? I'd never call you a... You-what-what!" I somehow managed to roll my eyes again. "Messing up your hair because you think it looks cool to look like you've just got off your broomstick, showing off that stupid Snitch, walking down corridors and hexing anyone who annoys you just because you can. I'm surprised your broomstick can get off the ground with that fat head on it. You make me SICK." I turned on my heel and stormed off as Potter tried to shout out to me. "Evans! Hey EVANS!" I didn't look back at him as I ran back up to the castle.
I heard footsteps behind me as I got to the entrance, I turned back to see my best friend Mary following behind me. "You okay?" Mary slightly panted as she stopped infront of me. "I'm fine." I walked toward the common room with Mary following right behind me. I tossed my bookbag on my bed once we got into the dorms. Mary sat on her bed which sat to the left of mine. "Why would he suddenly just call you that out of nowhere? That's just complete self-sabotage. You were like his only friend that wasn't fucking Mulciber or Avery and I wouldn't really call them the good kind of friends."
"I don't know, maybe he just-" Mary interrupted me. "No, no more making excuses for him. Snape is not a good person and you know it. I don't even know how you've been able to ignore the bad things about him." I knew Mary was right, I've known for the past year and a half. "Mary, he could've just been upset after Potter's whole shit, he-" Mary put her finger over my lips. "Nope, no more excuses. It's not healthy to be trying to defend some fucking greasy haired git." She pulled away and sat cross legged on my bed. "Dorcas said she caught him hexing some first year with Avery last week... That's not the kind of guy you want to be defending, Lily."
I laid back onto my bed, staring up at the wall. "It's just... I've known him since we were kids. He always seemed like such a good friend before, but now looking back, I just realised he kind of never truly cared about me." Mary snorted. "Probably just liked having a pretty girl by his side." I rolled my eyes. "As if."
After about ten minutes of Mary and I just talking, we now had class. History of magic is always a bore, Mary, Marlene and I usually just did jackshit. The moment we got into the classroom, my eyes landed on Potter's desk. Usually, he and Black would sit next to eachother and be in class right on time everyday. This time, only Black sat at their desk. "Where's Potter?" I asked Remus who just walked in. "Hospital wing." I almost completely forgot that Snape had managed to get a mark on Potter. The rest of the day went on slowly, like the agonizing kind of slow, where you just desperately want to get to bed and cry all your feelings out.
I decided to skip dinner, since I didn't really feel like I could eat at the moment. I sat on my bed, my record player quietly playing Rhiannon by Fleetwood Mac. My mum got me the record for my birthday a couple months ago. She saw it at the store and thought I'd like it. I quietly hummed along as I stared up at the ceiling. Marlene was asleep in her bed to my far right, I had a silencing charm on around my bed so she could sleep. Her quiet snores could be slightly heard beneath the sounds of the record.
I went through the next few days slowly. Wednesday was boring, Thursday was boring, Friday was boring and next Hogsmeade weekend wasn't until next month. Mary, Marlene and Dorcas did their best to cheer me up and it was kind of working, but Snape kept trying to talk to me, so that kind of ruined my mood. Potter kind of seemed to back off a bit, so that was atleast a bonus.
Once Sunday came, I was walking through the corridor when I heard a familiar voice behind me. "Hey Evans!" Great, kill me. I turned to look at Potter. "What do you want?" Potter's hand moved up to his hair, but pulled it away before he could mess it up. "I wanted to apologise for Tuesday." I raised an eyebrow. "Apologise for what exactly? Bullying Snape?" Potter snorted, his smirk faded and a look that kind of looked like he was disgusted even by the thought of Snape. "After Tuesday, no way am I ever apologising to that git."
I crossed my arms over my chest. "Then why are you apologising?" Potter sighed and subconsciously moved his hand up to his hair to mess it up. "Evans, I'm apologising to you, not to that greasy git." I groaned and rolled my eyes, as if I could even still do that, I have no idea how many times I've rolled my eyes since Tuesday. "I don't wanna hear it." I turned away from him, leaving him standing there staring at me.
