Work Text:

“Oof. That double battle was draining!” Nemona laughed as she fell on the bed. Penny hesitated at the door.

“...’Mona.” They spoke up.

“Yep?” Nemona perked up, sitting up on the bed with a bewildered look.

“Look around the room.” Penny said blankly.

“What? What is it?” Nemona asked, standing up to stand in front of Penny.

Then Nemona looked up to look around the room. A couch, the bathroom, one bed, a kitchenette… Wait a minute, one bed? What–?

“Uhm. I can sleep on the couch if you want!” Nemona spoke up after a little bit of processing this information.

“No, no, it's okay. I can sleep on the couch.” Penny argued, crossing their arms.

“No, if there's one bed, either I sleep on the couch or we both sleep on the bed.” Nemona mirrored Penny's actions as she crossed her arms defiantly.

“Fine. Fine. If you want to, we can share the bed.” Penny sighed, although they didn't seem to mind.

“Yippee!” Nemona cheered, as Penny blushed a little.

(Timeskip to around 12AM)

Nemona shot up out of bed, in a cold sweat. Her heart was pounding, and she patted the bed to see if Penny was still next to her. They were.

Penny seemed to have awoken soon after Nemona put her hand on them, and they flipped over to face Nemona.

“Whas hapbening…” They mumbled, but when they looked up, they were met with a teary-eyed Nemona.

“Oh, ‘Mona..!” Penny said, sitting up with Nemona, tugging her into a hug.

Nemona just let out a small whimper. She hugged Penny back firmly.

“If you wanna talk about it, I'm right here. It's okay.” Penny murmured, gently rubbing Nemona's back. They weren't the best at comforting, but would they make a chance to comfort their best friend? Of course they would.

Nemona just shook her head. She didn't really wanna talk about it right now. She especially didn't wanna wake Penny up, but… Here they were.

“Okay, you don't have to talk about it if you don't want to…” Penny murmured quietly, letting Nemona lean against them.

Nemona eventually let out a quiet yawn about 5 minutes later, and Penny started to lay themselves and her down. Both of them just laid there, snuggling.

“Gnite, Pen…” Nemona mumbled groggily, dozing off after a few seconds.

“Night, ‘Mona.” Penny sighed, their lips twitching into a warm smile.

Finally, the both of them settled down into a peaceful, deep slumber, curled up in each other's embrace.

(Timeskip to 7AM)

Nemona was up first, as per usual. She had an impeccable internal clock. She blinked slowly, the sunlight filtering into the room from the half-open blinds. Her hair wasn't as bad or messy as she expected it to be, as she usually tossed and turned a lot in her sleep.

“Gguhp…” Penny mumbled, sitting up, rubbing their eyes to get the sleep out of them.

“Morning, Pen!” *Nemona grinned. She wasn't as tired as she usually was–she tended to need a cup of coffee or an energy drink to get her started… Buuuut, she didn't really get as good sleep as this. Maybe she just needed to sleep better, like this.

Penny smiled. Nemona usually was much more sleepy than this, during their sleepovers in the morning.

“Sleep well? Minus the dream, of course…” Penny asked with a warm smile. It made them happy when they saw Nemona fully rested.

“...Actually, that was the best sleep I've had in a while.” Nemona laughed Mareepishly, rubbing the back of her neck.

“That's awesome!” Penny smiled even harder, so much their cheeks started hurting a little. Jeez, Nemona was making them smile a lot…

“Yeah… Yeah, it is.” Nemona said happily, before leaning in and pressing a feather-light kiss to Penny's head.

Usually, it would have been a friendly thing, but something was different. A lovely kind of different. A kind of different that made Penny's heart flutter. They stared at Nemona, opening and closing their mouth like a Magikarp out of water, before giving up on words when all that came out was a squeak.

“I… Uhm, sorry. I really shouldn't have done that, and—” Nemona started to ramble, when Penny pressed their lips against Nemona's cheek. It was Nemona's turn to let out a squeak.

“It's okay, ‘Mona.” Penny smiled, giving Nemona's shoulder a light pat.
