Chapter 1: (Too Late)

Chapter Text

Today was the day.

Today Kon would tell Tim his feelings and they would live happily ever after.

That’s how these things work right? Boy confesses to boy, boy says yes, they kiss, then they’re together forever. Kon isn’t stupid, despite what most of his friends think, he knows that not all relationships work out forever, but he knows Tim likes him, and he knows that the Bats do not give up their loves easily. He can hear Tim’s heart skip whenever he smiles at him, the way his breath catches when Kon’s shirt rides up when he stretches, his blush when Kon gets a little too close or is flirty on missions.

It’s so obvious to Kon what is going on, and he feels the same way. He loves how smart Tim is, how he is so confident on his skateboard and stakeouts, watching his skills as he goes undercover to dig out the truth from people, how fluid he is while fighting, his flushed face when Kon and him have been sparring for hours, the way his ass looks in kevlar, Kon just loves Tim.

Kon flew his way over to Tim’s apartment, landing on the balcony of the penthouse he went and knocked on the glass of the door before walking inside. “Hey Tim I-” He cut himself off when he saw someone sitting on Tim’s couch, staring at him like he’s debating whether or not to scream. “Oh. Uh hey there.” He said slowly.

“Who the fuck are you?” The guy asked, crossing his arms over his chest. Kon realized he’s wearing Tim’s Gotham U hoodie that he totally didn’t steal from Dick.

“I’m Connor, Tim’s best friend, who are you?”

“I’m his boyfriend. How did you get up here?”

Boyfriend? “Tim’s never mentioned you.”

“He hasn’t mentioned you either, so why are you here?”

Kon rolled his eyes, “look kid, I don’t know who you are and I really need to talk to Tim.”

“He’s not here.”

“Yes he is.”

“No he isn’t.”

“Yes he is.”

“No he isn’t!”

“Yes he-”

“Uh Kon? What are you doing here?” Tim asked nervously.

“I needed to talk to you?” Why is his heartbeat so fast? Is he being held hostage by this guy? “You know blondie over here?”

“Yeah.” He said standoffishly. “Bernard is my boyfriend.”

Kon clenched his fists and tried not to use his heat vision on a civilian. “I need to speak with you. Alone. Please.”

“Yeah.” Tim looked between them. “Yeah okay, let’s go out on the balcony.”

Kon storms outside. What the hell is going on? Surely this guy has Tim brainwashed or something. After all, why wouldn’t Tim have mentioned him before? And of course, Tim is in love with him!

“So what’s so urgent that you needed to come to Gotham?” Tim asked nervously.

“Are you in danger? How long have you been seeing that guy? Are you being blackmailed?”

“What?! No!” He sighed into his hands before running his hands down his long, pale throat, that could host so many brui- Focus Kon-El! “Look, I met Tim a few years ago, we were friends for a while, then I saved him from a cult and he kissed me. We’ve been together ever since. It isn’t blackmail, Kon, I love him.”

What? “What?”

“Yeah so don’t worry about me being held hostage or anything, I’m genuinely in love. Sorry I never mentioned it, I just don’t want to mix business and my personal life.”

“So I’m just like a coworker to you? After everything?” Kon felt the words leave him before he could stop himself. Tim opened his mouth but Kon cut him off, “I thought you loved me, Tim. Me. That’s what I came here to say. That I love you too. But now…” He trailed off seeing the hurt in Tim’s eyes, his big, beautiful, blue eyes. “I’m in love with you Timothy Drake.” He couldn’t help the words falling out of his mouth.

“Kon I-”

“You don’t have to say anything.” He rushed out. “I’m going back to the tower, enjoy your day off, Rob.”

Before Tim could say anything else, Kon flew away. He flew high, fast, and hard into the atmosphere until he could see the curve of the Earth clearly. Then, and only then, did he let his tears fall. He curled into a ball as he sobbed, his tears floating away into the space around him. How could this happen? How could he have let this happen? He was so sure that Tim loved him that he didn't even think about someone else snatching him away. Kon then snaps out of his saddness, he remebers all the signs Tim has given him over the course of two years, he knows that deep down Tim loves him. He just has to make Tim see that.

Notes:

Yeah so this was short but I couldn't figure out how to end it. Might write a second chapter with endgame timberkon, we'll see. Anyways, hope y'all enjoyed!
