Month 1- Early August
Megumi knows in his head that something is off. Something in his body feels different. The first thing he notices is how tired he’s been lately. He naps when he doesn’t have classes and pretty much nothing else. Then his emotions go haywire. He cries when he sees a cute kitten and accidentally snaps at Maki when she mentions how tired Megumi looks. He cries again after he snaps at Maki. Then he starts getting sick every morning, and he starts to connect the dots by the fourth day in a row he gets sick. He calls Nobara immediately. “Promise me you won’t freak out.” He says as Nobara answers.
“Uh? Why?” Nobara asks.
“Ok um, I need you to pick me up some pregnancy tests.” Megumi says quietly into the phone.
“Oh shit. I’ll be there in like 15 minutes.” Nobara says and then Megumi is left in silence. He thinks about his short 19 years of life and how he’s hardly had the chance to live it and now there’s potentially a new life growing inside him. It makes him panic just a tiny little bit.
Nobara arrives and drags Megumi into a hug as she hands the tests over. Megumi sniffles a bit and takes the tests to the bathroom. He comes back a few minutes later and sets them on the counter, he sets a timer on his phone and sits down. “Can I ask who’s it might be?” Nobara says softly.
“Yuuji’s.” Megumi says as he nervously fiddles with his bracelet. Megumi knows for sure. Yuuji had been the only person he’d slept with in the past three months even if it was a total accident and they never acknowledged it happened. His best friend Yuuji who he’d stupidly and drunkenly slept with at a stupid frat party in a stupid frat house.
“Oh. You know I’ll be supportive of any decision you make regarding this if it’s positive.” Nobara says just as the timer goes off.
“Will you look? I don’t think I can.” Megumi says and Nobara nods and picks up the test. She looks at it for a moment before she looks up and nods. She hands it to Megumi and Megumi sees the bold ‘POSITIVE’ staring back at him. Nobara holds her arms open and Megumi falls into them and cries.
Month 2- September
Megumi starts month two with a visit to the doctor. Nobara comes with him. Megumi gets the proper vitamins and a list of things he can’t do now that he’s growing a new life inside of himself. Even through all the anxiety Megumi feels about the whole situation there’s an underlying excitement. Megumi fights with the nerves he has for about two weeks into the month before he finally decides to tell Yuuji. The two are watching a movie on Megumi’s couch. “Are you alright? You’ve been distant lately.” Yuuji says as he grabs a handful of popcorn.
“I’ll be right back.” He says and then gets up. Yuuji raises an eyebrow at the avoidance of his question and returns his focus back to the movie. When Megumi comes back he drops the test in his lap. Yuuji looks at it and then up at Megumi.
“You’re pregnant? Congratulations!” Yuuji says. He’s clearly unaware of the implications.
“Yuuji…” Megumi says, tone desperate for Yuuji to take the hint.
“What?” Yuuji says as he looks at Megumi. The younger furrows his brows as he stares at Megumi and then in an instant, realization washes over his features. “Oh… shit.”
“Yeah..” Megumi says.
“Are you keeping it?” He asks. Megumi nods in response. Yuuji places his hands on his head and lets out a choked laugh. Megumi watches him tensely. Yuuji stands up suddenly and it causes Megumi to flinch back. “I-I have to go, I'm sorry,” Yuuji says, and then he’s gone as quickly as he’s said those words. Megumi breaks down and calls Nobara.
“He just left. He asked if I was keeping it and when I said yes, he fucking left.” Megumi chokes out.
“Oh sweetheart. Do you need me to come over?” Nobara asks softly.
“Please.” Megumi says.
When Nobara arrives he immediately wraps Megumi up in a hug. “You’re so strong and brave Megumi. You’re going to kill it as a parent,” she says as she pets over Megumi’s hair. Megumi sobs quietly into her shoulder. “He’s a coward for leaving like that and he doesn’t deserve you at all.” Nobara keeps comforting him softly until eventually Megumi falls asleep. When he’s confident the younger isn’t going to wake up anytime soon he exits the apartment and calls Maki.
“I need you to help me find Yuuji and then I’m going to rip his dick off and feed it to him.” Nobara says calmly.
“Woah! Why?” Maki asks.
“Do not tell anyone yet but Megumi is pregnant. It’s Yuuji’s and Megumi told him tonight, and Yuuji ran out on him.” Nobara says.
“What the fuck?! That’s so messed up. I’ll find him.” Maki says.
A couple hours later Maki calls. “I found him but he’s absolutely tanked right now. His drunk rambling sounds like he feels bad though. He keeps saying he’s a horrible person and how could he ever be a father.”
“Tsk! Stupid boy.” Nobara says fondly but with an edge of truth.
The next morning Nobara and Maki force the two together to talk things out and by the end of it Yuuji is softly talking to Megumi’s still flat stomach.
Month 3- October
Month three brings with it continued fatigue. Megumi sleeps more than he’s awake most of the time. Fortunately, most of his morning sickness has subsided. He still has his moments though. It’s also at this time that he begins to tell people. He starts with his parents. They’re hesitant but happy about the grandchild nonetheless. Yuuji’s family is ecstatic when they get the news. Then he lets his professors know. It’s likely the baby will be born near the end of the academic year and getting that sorted out would stress him far more than needed. He tells all of their friends when they get together for their monthly movie night at Megumi’s penthouse apartment. “So I have a really big announcement to make,” Megumi says as he brings popcorn to everyone. Nobara and Maki share a knowing look and then Megumi speaks up again. “I’m pregnant!” He says as he shows off the ultrasound photos.
“I knew something was up! Congratulations!” Muta says.
“Does that mean you’re going to be boring to hang out with now?” Todo asks. Inumaki just congratulates him softly.
“You guys slept together once! How is your pull out game that shitty Yuuji.” Yuuta laughs.
“Congratulations guys. When are you due?” Ino asks.
“Early April. I’ll be taking all of my finals online.” Megumi says.
The next day Megumi posts an announcement on his instagram for anyone not in their immediate circle.
Month 4- November
Month four brings Megumi into his second trimester. The second trimester brings back his energy but it also brings in the cravings as well as stretch marks and weirdly sensitive gums. Megumi gets his first craving in the middle of the night on a Monday night and Yuuji gets sent out in search of matcha macaroons. His cravings stay pretty tame except for the one time he puts soy sauce on his strawberry ice cream. Yuuji literally gags when he sees it. Megumi also finally starts to show. It isn’t much and his little bump isn’t obvious unless he’s wearing tighter clothes but it’s there, and Megumi feels a little spark of happiness every time he notices it or someone else points it out. Yuuji is just as happy about it and Megumi struggles to keep the other man’s hands off his stomach. At night Yuuji will wiggle his way down to kiss the bump and whisper softly. Megumi’s heart flutters every time. Megumi also starts having some mild lower abdomen pain. It’s annoying for a while but he gets over it. He also starts having wildly vivid dreams. The first time it happens it freaks him out so bad he has to call his OB. She assures him it’s completely normal.
Month 5- December
Month five brings swollen feet and lower back pain. Megumi finds himself preferring to sit down most of the time. He often complains to Nobara about it. Megumi also starts to experience pregnancy brain. He loses his phone at least 3 times everyday and sometimes it’s literally in his pocket. He also starts to have Braxton Hicks false contractions. It’s incredibly inconvenient when he’s in class. At this point he’s showing more and starting to grow out of most of his old clothes. Having put on at least 8 pounds since the start of the pregnancy. He’s also started to notice little flutters of kicks. They have their ultrasound at the end of the month.
“Welcome back. We can get started if you’d like.” The doctor says as she prepares the ultrasound gel. Megumi lifts up his shirt and she spreads the cold substance across his bump. Megumi watches the screen intently as she moves the probe around. “Everything looks really good and the baby seems right on track. I can tell you the gender if you’d like.” She states. Yuuji and Megumi look at each other before nodding. “Alright, so it looks like you’ll be having a little girl. Congratulations!” She says.
“A girl.” Yuuji says as he smiles at the screen. His fingers have been laced with Megumi’s since the two had entered the exam room.
“A girl.” Megumi repeats fondly.
Month 6- January
As they ring in the new year Megumi hits month six of his pregnancy. Megumi experiences the worst heartburn ever most days and he’s gained at least 12 pounds at this point. His lower back really bothers him these days and he spends a lot of time in the bathtub. Yuuji does his best to provide massages when he’s free, but between his classes and work he’s often gone. Nobara and Maki spend a lot of time at their apartment tending to Megumi. Nobara jokes about seeing Megumi go through this being free birth control. Megumi doesn’t find her funny. “I hope the condom breaks the next time you have sex.” Megumi says as Nobara brings him some toast. Nobara laughs at him and sits on the loveseat by Maki. “Don’t joke like that Megumi.” Maki says.
“I wasn’t joking.” Megumi replies as he eats his toast.
“I can’t believe you’d say that after all we’ve done for you.” Nobara whines dramatically. Megumi just laughs at her and the two of them start discussing the latest episode of the show they’d been watching. When Yuuji gets home later he’ll find Nobara and Megumi cuddled up together on the couch while Maki folds laundry.
Month 7- February
Month seven begins the third and final trimester for Megumi. Unfortunately the pesky fatigue has returned with a vengeance. At this point in his pregnancy Megumi is beginning to feel increasingly miserable. The baby grows rapidly at this stage and he’s gaining at least a pound a week. He struggles a bit with his body image but Yuuji and the rest of their friends make sure to shower him with praise and he eventually overcomes it. When Megumi isn’t at school or sleeping he’s adding things to his registry. Megumi hadn’t really wanted a baby shower but his mom and Nobara had insisted on planning one for him. Megumi frequently feels the baby kicking but she always seems to be still when he’s with others. Megumi reads all sorts of things about her development. Their friends start making bets on who she’ll look more like and who’s going to be the best “uncle”. It makes Megumi happy that so many people are so excited to meet his little princess. He already knows Yuuji is going to spoil the hell out of her. Every week that passes, Megumi gets more excited.
Month 8- March
By the eighth month Megumi has never had to pee so excessively in his entire life. His little princess has taken to sitting directly on his bladder in the most inopportune situations. He’d been making last minute preparations with a professor and she’d quite literally almost kicked the pee out of him. He and Yuuji continue their search for a name and really begin to narrow down their options. The baby shower also happens. Nobara, his mother and Yuuji’s mother prove to be great planners and hosts. It goes off without a hitch and overall Megumi has a good time and gets lots of stuff for his princess. As the eighth month reaches its end they’re working diligently on the nursery. One particular day their friends come over and Nobara, Yuuta, and Muta help him do a bunch of meal prep. Ino, Todo, Inumaki, and Maki help Yuuji assemble the furniture in the nursery as well as putting up decorations. (Inumaki actually isn’t any help though because he keeps going back to the little shoes in the closet and crying over how small they are.) Megumi totally gets him because he’d done it multiple times in the past few weeks too. Afterwards they do their last monthly movie night for a couple months. He and Yuuji attend a few birthing classes and parenting classes and then they’re in the home stretch.
Month 9- April
As the final month rolls around they work on completing their baby checklist. The first week of April they finally chose a name. Megumi makes sure to pack his hospital bag and Yuuji does last minute nursery work. They make sure to sign up for childcare for when Megumi’s maternity leave ends. Then once they’ve completed everything all they have to do is wait.
They welcome their little girl on April 12th. Megumi wakes up in the middle of the to realize he’s in a puddle. At first he assumes he might’ve peed himself but a contraction hits and not a fake one either. He immediately wakes Yuuji up and the two work to get the things they need to the car. When they arrive at the hospital they immediately take Megumi back to prep him for a c-section. Yuuji holds his hand the entire time. Within the hour Megumi is holding their daughter to his bare chest. Tears drip down his face as he takes in all of her tiny features. Megumi gently runs his finger over her little nose and realizes that she looks a whole lot like Yuuji. Her nose and lips resemble him. Her eyes though, Megumi can tell that she has his eyes. “She’s beautiful.” He whispers.
“Of course she is. She’s got half of your DNA,” Yuuji answers as he places a kiss on Megumi’s lips. “You did so well, I’m so proud of you.” He praises. A nurse comes and takes the baby and offers Yuuji a chance to hold her. Yuuji sits in the chair in the corner holding her gently. Megumi lets out a small laugh as he realizes how tiny she is compared to Yuuji. The man could quite literally hold her in a single hand. Yuuji whispers quietly to their daughter. “Welcome to the world Sora, I’ll give you everything you could ever desire.”
Afterwards- May
“I can’t believe you carried her for nine months just for her to come out looking exactly like Yuuji.” Nobara says as she holds her.
“At least we know Megumi wasn’t lying about who the baby daddy is,” Yuuta says. He gets hit by Ino for that one. Inumaki is crying as he looks at her.
“Dude, are you good?” Todo asks.
“She’s just so tiny.” Inumaki sobs. Maki pats his back comfortingly, she looks a bit as if she could also cry at any minute.
“She kind of makes me want one.” Muta says. Nobara and Maki both nod almost immediately. Megumi and Yuuji share a look when they notice and Megumi picks Sora up as she starts to cry.
“I think she’s hungry and needs a change. I’ll be back out later.” Megumi says as he takes her to the nursery. Yuuji watches them fondly. He feels a little insane that he was so ready to give this up when he’d found out originally. The Yuuji of a year ago would be shaking in his boots.
