Summary:

“I have a name you know.” Izuku found himself snapping back, the banter between them seemingly natural.

“Oh really, lets hear it then.”

“Mi-Midoriya, Midoriya Izuku.”

“Hmm, I think I like nerd more.”

“I-”

“I’m Katsuki.” He interrupted, deeming Izuku’s response unimportant.

“You’re agitating, Katsuki.” Izuku said, testing the name out and maybe *Katsuki* just had a way of making everything about him attractive.

“Maybe *you’re* mean, I offered to find a charger for you then you started insulting me.”

Izuku is late for his usual study session, and unfortunately, someone else was just on time to steal his usual study spot. And this guy was the most irritating person Izuku had ever met, so why are they studying together?

Notes:

I've been working on this for too long, since it's meant to have multiple chapters but I realised that if I don't post it, I won't have any motivation to update. I'm not sure how many chapters this might have, but there's so much I want to explore so there's a few coming.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Chapter 1: Studying with some guy you just met (at least he's hot).

Chapter Text

What did Izuku NOT want to do today? Forget to charge his phone. What did he do anyway? Forget to charge his phone.

You really couldn’t blame him, he had stayed up majority of the night finalising his design and deconstruct and ended up completing it just moments before the due date. All is well that ends well. Except all isn’t well, and he’s on campus with a flat phone and no charger. It helped that he had no more lectures for the day , but if he was still planning to study for at least an hour, he would need music to help him focus.

While he *could* drive home and grab his charger, the library was right there and he had to be on time because if there was one thing Izuku always looked forward to, it was the study cubicles their university had implemented. There were only six of them, so if you wanted to find one that wasn’t already occupied you had to get there before the evening rush, and Izuku was cutting it close already. When he finally got there, he was approaching his usual study cubical with some sort of angry acceptance, flinging the door open and everything.

What did Izuku NOT want to see today? There’s a lot, but maybe his priorities weren’t right since clearly this should have been at the top. There was a person inside the room Izuku had just rudely opened.

The stunning guy seated (or rather sprawled) in the cubicle looked up from his phone, red eyes filled with agitation. Amazing.

“Can I help you?” He asked, brows furrowed and he put his feet down from the table.

“Oh. I’m sorry-I didn’t- I usually study in here I mean it’s- it’s fine if you’re in here I don’t own the cubicle and it’s like first come first…”

The angry blonde only stared at Izuku as he word vomited an apology for his apology, then he proceeded to laugh and fuck. Who knew laughs could be that attractive.

“Damn, was that meant to be an apology?” The boy replied rather rudely, which unfortunately did little in stifling Izuku’s attraction.

Suddenly he felt awkward, and nervous because of course he was, so he said the first thing that came to mind.

“My phone’s dead.”

Okay. Interesting choice of words but perhaps he could salvage the interaction by simply walking away and into oncoming traffic.

“Alright, this is my problem how?” Rude blonde boy asked, eyebrow raised and an amused tone in his voice.

“Do you have a charger?” Izuku helpfully added instead of going with the earlier stated plan.

The boy snickered and Izuku half hoped he would cuss him out (he seemed like the type of guy to do that) and slam the door. And then of course he would walk onto oncoming traffic.

“Sit down.” Is what Izuku got instead because when does anything go according to plan?

“What?”

“You fucking deaf too?” the, actually mean, boy borderline yelled, “I said sit, I’ll find you a charger. Understand?” he explained with such finality in his tone that of course Izuku did exactly that.

It was silent for a moment as he dug around his bag for a charger. Izuku took this time to collect himself and wonder how he even got into such a situation.

“Seems like I don’t have one!” blondie abruptly spoke up, “That’s too bad nerd.”

Wow, what an asshole. And maybe Izuku was being dramatic here, but this mean attractive boy did that absolutely intentionally just to fuck with him.

“If you’re done mumbling over there I would like to get back to studying.” he added in a dismissive tone.

The asshole wasn’t even studying!

“Excuse me?” Angry blonde yells.

Izuku obviously hadn’t meant to say that out loud, but he hadn’t meant to forget his charger or find someone in this cubicle so what did it matter?

“You-you were literally on your phone.”

“Fuck off! I could be studying now but some green haired loser is distracting me!”

“You’re very mean, did you know that?”

“Aw, did I hurt your feelings?”

Izuku wanted to exit the room angrily, however he couldn’t lie to himself and say he wanted to leave all that bad.

“Shit, are you gonna cry? You’re pouting too.” blondie continued mimicking what Izuku’s face must have looked like.

“You’re so loud, its a library.” Izuku said in retort.

In response the boy stood from his side of the long seat and reached over Izuku to shut the door. Izuku felt his face heat up as the guy’s cologne invaded his senses and the sleeve of his shirt brushed against his hair.

“Fine then.” the idiot said as he sat back down seemingly closer to Izuku.

Izuku couldn’t help but roll his eyes. “This room isn’t sound proof.”

The blonde hummed, “So sassy, damn nerd.”

“You’re agitating, Katsuki.” Izuku said, testing the name out and maybe Katsuki just had a way of making everything about him attractive.

“Maybe you’re mean, I offered to find a charger for you then you started insulting me.”

“You were messing with me!”

Katsuki proceeded to stare at Izuku instead, no at his face, which annoyed him just as much as it made his heart palpitate.

“Maybe I still am. You’re easy to mess with.” Katsuki responds finally, and he was too close for second.

Izuku followed the his movements as he picked up his pen and looked back onto his idle laptop screen. What a confusing man.

“What are you doing?” Izuku asked.

“Studying obviously you idiot!”

“Right.” Because that answered all of Izuku’s questions.

“I can hear the attitude in your voice, nerd.” Katsuki commented.

Unsure of what to do, Izuku found himself observing the room. He could still faintly feel Katsuki’s presence right next to him, and his eyes strayed onto spiky blonde hair and focused eyes. He was even hotter when he was concentrated. Izuku sighed internally, annoyed at how gone he was for a stranger.

Not even minutes later, Katsuki shut his book in frustration and Izuku couldn’t help but giggle.

“Something funny?”

“No…I was uh…”

When Katsuki’s phone started ringing, Izuku made sure to thank whoever had called him. Katsuki picked up the phone after one final look of annoyance at him and Izuku decided he might as well start studying too while was here. Clearly Katsuki didn’t mind him being in the study, and he had no idea how to even begin leaving (not that he wanted to) so why not.

“I’ll see you over at yours, idiot!” the loud boy yelled into his phone.

Then Katsuki began packing up and Izuku started cursing whoever called him instead.

“Good news nerd, you can have your room back.” He said, standing from the table.

“Um...okay bye.”

“Yeah, yeah learn to knock, Izuku.” Katsuki answered before shutting the door.

Izuku ended his study session that day and discovered he hadn’t studied at all.

Now he was walking around a familiar area trying to find the coffee shop he was going to meet Ochako at. He knows he should probably have it memorised by now since they always go there, but sue him he needs his memory for other things. Usually he would just use maps, but considering his phone was *still* dead this was his only other option. Now, was it next to the Sushi train or across it?

Distantly, Izuku heard someone calling his name so he turned in the voice’s direction to see a recognisable brunette.

“Ochako! Thank goodness.” He exclaimed in relief.

Ochako walked toward him, rolling her eyes fondly, “You are like, twenty minutes late!”

“I know, my phone’s dead and I had no idea how to get here.”

“You seriously haven’t memorized it yet?”

“I knew it was around here…”

“God, you have no survival skills.”

“I have something to tell you.” Izuku immediately said.

“Do you want to get *in* the coffee shop first? I ordered us frappes.”

Izuku couldn’t help but smile as they entered the shop after not hanging out for a while due to their busy schedules. He had never been as happy to smell the welcoming aroma of warm coffee and whatever mystery desserts coffee shops usually have out. They sat in their regular booth near the far corner of the shop which Ochako and Momo thought was the best for judging people. As soon as they sat, Ochako looked at him expectantly.

“You will not believe what happened.”

“You called him agitating?” Ochako all but yelled and Izuku nodded. “To his face?!”

Izuku nodded again. “He was agitating!”

“And yet here you are gushing about him.”

“You should’ve heard how he said my name, though.”

“Ooh…got a crush?”

“Ugh, shut up.” Izuku groaned.

“Come on Izuku, he was flirting the whole time!”

“He was too hot to be single Ochako!”

“I need to see this aggressive library guy.” Ochako said, wiggling her eyebrows.

“Don’t do the eyebrow thing.” Izuku groaned some more.

“Hater.” Ochako took a long sip of her frappe.

The rest of their conversation slowly deteriorated into unrelated gossip, despite this, thoughts of a blonde stranger did not leave Izuku’s mind. At least he wouldn’t see him again.

Izuku remembered to charge his phone this time, and he got to library perfectly on time like he usually did. So imagine his surprise when he opened the study cubicle (he knocked this time too, to no response) to find none other than Katsuki seated across most of the seat. And by across, he means legs stretched out over the whole seat like he owned the room.

He took notice of Izuku and smirked, “You took my advice.”

“What?” Is all Izuku could manage, just left speechless by the sheer audacity filling the room.

“You knocked! Great job.” Katsuki responded, looking back down at his laptop.

Izuku was left standing there, absolutely disconcerted *and* tricked into believing he would actually find the room empty. Not only was this asshole taking up space in an angering way, he also had to have come in earlier that usual to make sure Izuku wouldn’t get there first.

“Something wrong, nerd?”

“You know what.”

“Can’t say I do, and are you just going to stand there?”

“I wasn’t planning to.”

“Good, cause I’m trying to study.”

“You are so agitating.” Izuku huffed.

“Yeah, I’ve heard.”

Izuku exhaled shakily, damn the guy was the definition of mixed feelings. He had no idea if he liked him or hated him and honestly Izuku was far gone either way. Before he could maybe storm out to display his anger, Katsuki spoke again.

“Did you charge your phone today?”

“Um…yeah.”

“So-”

“Why are you doing this?” Izuku interrupted this time.

“Doing what?” Katsuki questioned, though his expression said he knew exactly what.

“You…” Izuku groans, “Are you messing with me again?”

“I did say you were fun to mess with.” Katsuki replied finally looking away from his laptop to make eye contact with him. “Did you want to sit down?”

“I uh- I do, but…” Izuku looked at the legs which were just rudely taking up all the space.

Katsuki followed his gaze and his smile widened, “You could have just asked me to move.”

Izuku rolled his eyes, composure returning, and sat down after Katsuki folded his legs up so he was sitting criss-cross apple sauce for some unknown reason.

‘You’re so weird.” Izuku mumbled to himself.

“Rude.” Is all Katsuki said as a response, before looking back to his papers.

It didn’t take long in their impromptu study session for Izuku to notice that Katsuki was once again frustrated at whatever he was studying. Now, Izuku could easily ignore the idiot, as he huffed and grumbled to himself, flipping pages at a time but not really asking for help. Besides, its not like the knew each other, Izuku still wasn’t sure why they were even sitting together in the study room, but he wasn’t complaining. Either way, he had an unfortunate tendency to help people, and this applied even to assholes who steal his study cubicles.

“Did you…uh need any help with that?”

“You fucking calling me stupid?”

“No?” Izuku responded, confused because how did he even reach that conclusion?

“I don’t need shit.” Katsuki answered with finality, and Izuku didn’t say anything after that.

The rest of the session ended in a similar way as the one before, Katsuki left after talking to someone on the phone and Izuku was left alone wondering what his life had become. He was relieved to find that he had studied this time around, considering the research paper that was around the corner.

He was moderately pleased to find nobody in his study cubicle the next day, and he finally had the whole room to himself.

Izuku would be lying, though, if he said he hadn’t been looking for Katsuki when he knocked on the door. He nervously wondered if he had offended Katsuki, when he asked if he needed help, and almost accepted that as the reason he didn’t show up today. He didn’t want to think he cared that much despite the fact that he did and he missed Katsuki’s presence.

His phone was dying, so he finished his study session earlier than usual, besides he deserved a break after working his ass off all week. He collected all his things, making sure he had everything he came in with and left the room, glancing at his phone’s percentage.

9%.

He could make it.

“Watch where you’re going nerd.” A familiar voice came from the person he had just bumped into while checking his phone.

“Kat…chan?” He attempted.

“Did you forget my name already? I’m offended.” He teased, making Izuku realise what he had said.

Of course that was a result of surprise, and distraction because how could one not be distracted when looking at what must be an angel before him.

“No…I was just confused? And I tried to say Katsuki then I tried to say chan after because- because of habit but I’ve never even called you that so I don’t know why I even…”

“Calm down, you’re fine.”

Izuku didn’t say anything, embarrassment creeping onto his face.

“Did you…uh, see a textbook in there. I must have left it yesterday.”

“No.”

Silence.

“What textbook was it?”

“Its one of those orange psychology ones, I just got it.” Katsuki responded, he sounded stressed, and Izuku couldn’t blame him, those textbooks were extremely expensive.

“I’ll tell you if I see it.” He assures, observing Katsuki’s pinched brows and concentrated expression as he tried to remember where he might seen a psychology textbook.

Then Katsuki snapped his attention back to Izuku, which caused his face to heat up even more. He then stared at Izuku for a second more before he pulling out his phone and handing it to Izuku.

“You can add your number…in case you…see it or whatever.” He said, trying obviously to stay cool which made Izuku’s heart beat faster.

No way he was nervous, about *Izuku?*

Izuku took the phone maybe too eagerly, “Yeah…sure.”

He put his number in and started typing in his name for the contact when Katsuki grabbed the phone back, cutting his typing short.

“*Deku?* Is that a nickname or something? Sounds stupid.” He questioned, smiling teasingly at what should have displayed ‘Izuku’ on his phone.

“No!? It obviously got mis-typed when you grabbed the phone.” Izuku whined.

“Are you sure? It kinda suits you Deku.”

“Whatever, Kacchan!” Izuku retaliated before he could consider what he was saying.

Katsuki (or now Kacchan) chuckled before he could back track, typing on his phone, “I just texted you, so you can save my number,” he said.

Izuku looked down at his phone to see a notification, “Oh, right! Um…I’ll text you if I see it.”

“You better.” Katsuki responded, “See you tomorrow nerd.”

“Um…bye!” Izuku he managed to call back, not even done processing the interaction.

Kacchan waved, probably going around to search for his textbook, and Izuku waved back, trying not to spontaneously combust.

The threat to do so was still prominent on his drive home, however. Even as he mindlessly pressed the elevator button when he got to his building, his thoughts unravelling like a ball of yarn wound too tight.

*“See you tomorrow?”*

So this was a thing now?

There are few things that can be paralleled to sinking into your bed after a long, exhausting day, and Izuku couldn’t help the breath of relief he allowed. He was about to turn off his bedside lamp and finally put his overworked brain to rest when he realised that he had left his laptop open.

Groaning, he almost considered that maybe staying up until 1 am most nights wasn’t doing any good as he sluggishly approached his study table to slam it closed. It was only when he was about to shut the laptop that he noticed an orange book peeking underneath his Biology notes.

Usually Izuku would just ignore it, maybe lie a little and tell himself he would finally de-clutter his desk, and slide back under the warm blankets that sang a sirens tune to him. However, since his thoughts were hostage to blonde hair and ruby eyes, he recalled that Kacchan’s textbook was also orange.

Izuku watches Ochako’s profile go offline, and takes in the deepest breath ever taken, he even contemplates texting Todoroki for a second before remembering how rare it was for the boy to respond to texts.

After hitting send on that disastrous text, he almost throws his phone away and screams into his pillow, however he’s grateful he didn’t since a little typing icon pops up seconds later. That was fast.

Izuku<<

Kacchan>>

Izuku almost fails to sleep, finding himself buzzing with excitement at the prospect of seeing Kacchan again, which was stupid since he was simply returning a textbook to him. He would definitely need to investigate the hold that man had on him already.

Notes:

I feel like the pacing is really fast but fuck it we ball. Next chapter hopefully coming soon, so wish me luck cause I'm also working on a few other works. (Specifically Janka cause its consuming me)
