There was nothing but the Blue Eater, and the Blue Eater caused pain. Her throat would shred itself screaming, and when she closed her eyes it still burned as if looking upon Dominicus from the bridge of some starship.
It was a ceaselessly blinding sun, but it wasn’t her only sun. Sometimes there would be another, a double solar eclipse; a golden halo ringing the edge of this second sun, and large, warm hands laying on her wrists, her stomach. She couldn’t see, but she could feel, and she could hear; and her savior spoke to her, and said,
"Jody."
