Spooky scary confession.

Summary:

It’s been about 1 month and a few weeks since Elijah and Jasmine first met. Ever since, she’s been trying and failing to not fall in love with him. Since it was nearly Valentine’s day, Jasmine thought it would be good to write her feelings down on a piece of paper and leave it somewhere. She totally won’t run away and hide somewhere when he finds it…

…right?

Work Text:

“…nearly Valentines day already…? Maybe i should… no… yes… no… yes… how do i even confess to him… god i’m hopeless…”

Jasmine mumbles as she paces around the room. She had caught feelings for the local vampire, Elijah, who had been helping her with self care for over a month. Ever since then, she’d be trying to hide the feelings from him in fear he wouldn’t accept her. Her thoughts begin to grow dark. “An immortal vampire and a human. To him, it would be a blink of an eye, then i’m buried 6 feet under.” “I’d probably be boring or too much.” “He might even-“

“Jasmine? Are you ok?”

Elijah had walked in while she was overthinking things. Again.

“Eli! El! Heyyyyy! I was just… thinking.”

“About what?”

“About… stuff. Yeah. Stuff. Very important stuff.”

“Jasmine. Please tell the truth.”

Jasmine had always been a bit stubborn. Unfortunately for her, he’s stubborn too. He squints at her, trying to get her to tell him what’s in her mind. She gets an idea.

“So you might be receiving a letter later… it’s very important you read it. It’s nothing bad, i promise! I just… want you to read it. Only if you want to though no pressure ok bye!”

She immediately ran out of the room after saying that.

“A letter…? She didn’t even tell me what it’s about…”

The day before Valentine’s day, she was writing the letter, trying her best to express her feelings. “What if he doesn’t like this?” Her mind says. Her thoughts were getting dark again. By the time she was done, her hands were shaking. Fear was overwhelming her. She needs to do this. She has to.

Valentine’s day finally comes. She leaves the letter in the library and waits. She waits for 5 minutes. 10 minutes. She might not be able to do this. 15 minutes. 20 minutes. Her thoughts haven’t been this dark before. She needs to hide. She can’t meet him. Not like this. Not when her mental state is in shambles.

30 minutes have passed since she’s put the letter in the library. Elijah was about to reread a book when he notices a letter on the table. He opens it and begins to read.

“Elijah.

I’ve been feeling a lot lately. Fear, sadness, happiness, but most of all, love. And that love is for you. I wish i could tell you this to your face but… i just can’t. My mind overthinks scenarios that end badly. And yet i still fell for you. I still caught feelings. If you don’t find me in the library, my mind has gotten dark again and i’m hiding somewhere comforting. If you feel the same, then do me a bit of a favour and show me that i shouldn’t be afraid of these feelings. -Jasmine”

“She… really loves me?” He mumbles, shocked but pleasantly surprised. He’d usually know when someone has a crush on him, but it seems like she had been hiding it pretty well.

He calls out to her, seeing if she’s in the library.

Nothing.

“Somewhere comforting… where would…” an idea strikes him. The conservatory! Of course! He heads there. The moment he enters, he could already hear her panicked breathing coming from the couch.

“Jasmine… hey…”

Her breathing tries to stabilise but she just can’t seem to relax.

“Sorry about this. I know i promised not to read into your mind… but i need to know what’s going on in your head.”

He begins to focus on her. Trying to listen to her thoughts. It was loud. So many voices saying so many negative things. It was a storm in her mind. So much darkness… except for one little voice. He struggles to focus on the little voice for a minute until finally…

“…help… please… i can’t take this… i need someone to hold… to tell me everything’s going to be ok… i just want to love you without being criticised by my own thoughts…”

He comes closer to her, opening his arms to hug her as he sits down on the couch.

“Do you want to…” she immediately falls into his arms, interrupting his sentence. He smiles as he wrapped his arms around her and turns her head to face him.

“…hey.”

“H-hi…”

“Do you want to know a secret…?”

She nods. Immediately after, he kisses her. Tears of relief flow down her cheeks as she closes her eyes. He pulls away shortly after. He begins to whisper into her ear.

“The secret is that i love you. There’s nothing to be afraid of. I promise.”

She hugs him back as they stay there for a while. She could finally love him, knowing he loves her back. She closes her eyes as she rests in his arms. She’s not going to spend Valentine’s day alone. Not this year.
