Chapter Text
I woke up to my phone buzzing on the nightstand next to me. Rolling over to lazily pick it up and answer it.
"Hello?" I answered.
"Hey, I got an anonymous email about an asylum doing some shady shit." Miles said. "We should go check it out."
"Now?" I asked.
"Sure, why not." He responded. "I just woke you up, didn't I?"
"Yeah". I said.
"At this hour?" Miles said.
"I stayed up late." I groaned.
"Anyway, get ready to leave because I'm coming over soon to pick you up." Miles said. "I'll forward you the email i got."
"Alright." I said.
We hung up and I rolled back over. I got a notification from Miles, the email that was sent to him.
The email reads:
"September 17, 2013
From: [email protected]
To: [email protected]
Subject: TIP / Illegal Activity at Murkoff Psychiatric Systems
You don't know me. Have to make this quick. They might be monitoring.
I did 2 weeks of software consult at MURKOFF Psychiatric Systems' facilities in Mount Massive. All sorts of NDA's I am very much breaking right now but seriously, fuck those guys.
Terrible things happening there. Don't understand it. Don't believe half the things I saw. Doctors talking about dream therapy going too deep, finding something that had been waiting for them in the mountain. People are being hurt and Murkoff is making money.
It needs to be exposed."
I was going to a creepy asylum with my college crush...
-----------------------------------------------------
I put some things into a bag and looked outside. Miles had pulled up in his red jeep. He stepped out and had a quick smoke. I keep telling him they are killing him faster, but the idiot doesn't listen. I walked out and locked the front door.
"You have everything?" He asked.
"Camera, notebook, multiple pens, a bit of food." I said.
"Alright, let's go." He said.
It will take a while to get there, it was in a secluded area. It was already getting a bit dark out, by the time we get there, it will be completely dark.
----------------------------------------------
Phone signal cut off a while back. The radio started cutting out, I turned the volume all the way down to stop that horrible sound.
"Look." Miles said.
I looked back up to see it, the asylum, it was weirdly creepy and beautiful at the same time. We drove past the sign, "Mount Massive Asylum". Miles parked the jeep off to the side and turned off the engine. We both grabbed our cameras and double checked the battery levels.
"Ready?" Miles asked while taking off his seatbelt.
"Yeah." I said and did the same.
We both got out of the jeep and had to find a way in. There was no guard in the security guard booth.
"I already feel sick just looking at it." Miles said as we walked up to the gate.
As we walked up to the front of the asylum, we noticed big armored trucks.
"They must have been bringing some dangerous people to and from here." I said.
Miles tried the front door. "It's locked. We have to get in another way." He said.
"Of course." I said.
We checked the side and found the door was mangled, just enough for both of us to get through.
"We can get through a window up there." I said.
We both climbed the ladder and walked across the sketchy wooden boards. There was an open window.
"You want to go first?" Miles asked.
"Sure." I responded.
I hopped up and pulled myself into the window, the room looked like it had been raided. I stepped into the room and looked around as Miles pulled himens up and into the room. Once he got in the lights went out.
"Perfect timing." I said as i got my camera out and used the night vision.
We made our way to the hallway, even the hall was messed up. Shelves and shit blocking the way. We had to go through the room across the hall to get to the other side. There was a painting of a priest on the wall right when you walked in.
"I don't think religion did them much good here." I said.
The TV screeched as it suddenly turned on. I spun around at the sound.
"It's just the tv." Miles said.
"What happened here?" I said.
"The email did say some fucked up shit was happening." Miles said.
"It's like they left in a hurry or had to fight someone." I said.
"Or a mix of both." Miles said. "We should keep going."
We went back into the hall and looked in another room.
"If only we knew the passwords to the computers here." I said looking at the screen.
We moved on to the next room and found a document.
"Project Walrider?" I said.
"This patient's name is Billy." Miles said. "He's only 19."
"MURKOFF PSYCHIATRIC SYSTEMS

"His mother was trying to win a lawsuit against them." I said while reading the other paper.
"INTERVIEW NOTES:
Billy asked about the status of his mother's lawsuit against Murkoff and the asylum. This represents a catastrophic breach in security, despite Billy's claims that he discovered the truth 'in the blood dreams of Doctor Trager.' (Note: the only Trager on company records, one Richard Trager, is an executive from M.R.D.) All orderlies and security personnel must be questioned and video security improved to include analytical biometrics.

"We should find more of these." Miles said while walking into the hall.
We continued down the hall, one of the doors was locked so we had to skip it. We got to a frosted glass door with two other doors on either side. When we got closer the bathroom door on our left quickly slammed shut before we could see anything in there. The door to our right stayed open.
"Best to go this way then." I said while walking into the room.
There were two vending machines with the word COLA in big bold letters across the top.
"Do you trust any of the drinks in them?" I said half joking.
"(y/n)." Miles said.
I turned and looked at where he was looking. There was blood on a wooden board, it was dripping from the ceiling. We looked up and there was a big spot of blood up there... the vent, it came from the vent.
"Don't tell me we have to go up there." I said.
"No other way." Miles said as he hopped up to climb in.
"Damn it." I said under my breath.
I had to follow him up there, no way i was going to stay here by myself and leave him to go alone. We crawled through the vent and heard someone say "Not you, not again." and we could see him through a vent grid, he opened a door and ran out. We continued down the vent and dropped down into this area with big glass windows, there was a big chandelier in the middle of the room on the other side of the windows.
"This is the lobby isn't it." I said while looking through the windows.
There was once again a bunch of random things blocking the way so we had to try a door to continue. Miles opened the door and a body dropped in front of us.
"What the fuck!!" We both said and jumped back.
The body was missing the head.
"It smells horrible." Miles said and covered his face with his hand.
I slowly walked into the room and looked around. It was a library, the books and shelves were all over the place. There were heads on the shelves, they had been ripped off their bodies.
"What the hell?" I said.
There was another headless body hanging from the ceiling further into the room. We walked through the shelves to get out, but when we turned a corner, we found someone who was still alive but slowly dying.
"They killed us. They got out. The Variants. You can't fight them. You have to hide. ...Can unlock the main doors from Security Control. You have to get the fuck out of this terrible place." He said.
He died telling us to get out. He had a pole stabbed through him and he bled out.
"They lost control of this place." I said.
"Kinda serves them right if they really were doing horrible things here." Miles said.
He turned to continue further into the asylum.
"Are you sure we should keep going?" I asked.
"No, but we have to if we want to expose this place." Miles answered.
Miles opened the door and continued into the hall with all the windows, it wrapped around to the other side of the lobby. I squeezed through the barricade and waited for Miles to come through.
"Little pig." A deep voice said and a giant man grabbed Miles by the arm.
"Miles!" I yelled and tried to grab him through the small opening.
But the guy was too strong, and I wasn't fast enough. He threw him through the glass and Miles fell to the floor below. I looked through the glass on my side of the barricade. Miles was lying on the floor, he wasn't moving.
