Chapter Text
Blaziken and Dr. Sylveon stood in silence, Dr. Sylveon's suit, hands, and face were still covered in blood. Blaziken couldn't help but feel disgusted in himself. After all he knew Dr. Sylveon was far from innocent, he knew about the rare candy, he knew about some of his other crimes, and through all that he turned a blind eye just to keep the peace between them.
"You know I can't keep defending you," He whispered, "Especially after this." He gestured towards Mudkip's body that had yet to be cleaned up.
"Who cares about him? He didn't have parents or any friends besides that Chespin kid. No one will have cared for the death of that serial killer," Dr. Sylveon spat, "Besides you got one less criminal on your hands. You should be grateful that I made your job a little easier."
Blaziken just stared at Dr. Sylveon, his husband no less, with resignation. "You're a criminal too." He muttered.
"That's different and you know it. You are married to me," Dr. Sylveon said as he traces his blood soaked fingers across Blaziken's throat. Blaziken grabbed his wrist and gently pulled it away which earned a scowl from Dr. Sylveon, "Unless... You don't love me?"
Blaziken tensed, "Of course I do!"
"No you don't," Dr. Sylveon replied, "because if you did love me you would defend me."
"Doc you killed a kid!" Blaziken shouted.
"A kid who was a serial killer!" Dr. Sylveon defended, "Besides you defended me plenty before! From others for my crimes and being arrested! Killing a kid is just like any of my other crimes!"
"He was a child... Sylveon I can't defend that," He muttered, "...I love you Sylveon, but-"
"There shouldn't be a 'but' Blaziken! You married ME! You CHOSE this!" Dr. Sylveon hissed as he jabbed his finger into Blaziken's chest, "Love shouldn't have a 'but'! You chose to marry me! You chose to defend my crimes! You know why?! Because you love me! You said it yourself countless of times before!"
Dr. Sylveon took a deep breath to calm himself down, "Come on Blaziken. Just defend me as you always do and we can go back to our lovely little marriage and enjoy our lives," He cooed "Just help clean this up so we can go home."
He wrapped his arms around his neck and all Blaziken could feel was the blood from Dr. Sylveon's hands soaking into his own shirt. His palms began to sweat and he averted his gaze, he couldn't bring himself to look at Dr. Sylveon anymore.
"Look at me," Dr. Sylveon commanded, "Look me in the eyes and tell me you will defend me like you always do."
Blaziken couldn't.
He wanted to, Arceus above, he wanted to.
Despite all that it wasn't right.
Perhaps it was the guilt of covering up Dr. Sylveon's crimes instead of doing what was right.
Perhaps it was a life being ended directly by Dr. Sylveon hands this time.
Either way Blaziken was disappointed in himself for allowing it to get this far. Disappointed that it took a life, a child's life, to make him wake up.
"I won't defend you Sylveon. Not anymore."
Dr. Sylveon was stunned, "You're joking." He choked out after a while.
Because there was no way that Blaziken, the one who loved him more than anything, who defended him, who turned a blind eye to what he did, who never told a soul what he did and pinned the blame to someone else so that he could get away scot free, THAT Blaziken had just told him he wouldn't defend him anymore.
"I can't deal with this anymore. I can't deal with you anymore." Blaziken removed Dr. Sylveon's arms from around his neck before taking a step back, a step back from him and their relationship.
"I think we should divorce."
Because Blaziken couldn't live like this, and it seemed like Dr. Sylveon would never be a better man. He can't keep defending a criminal, even if criminal is his husband.
