Max could spend forever in Victoria’s arms. Every second with her felt endless. Like it could last forever. More ways to rephrase that same feeling.
Victoria didn’t feel the same, exactly. Not right then, at least, with Max sitting on her lap as she tried to get work done on her laptop. Victoria, one hand holding Max by her abdomen and another placed on her laptop’s keyboard, leaned her head on Max’s shoulder and let out a soft groan.
“What’s wrong?” Immediately flew out Max’s mouth, a question Victoria did not answer. On purpose. “Vic.”
“What?”
“Your poker face is terrible.” Max chuckled. “Seriously, are you okay?”
“I’m fine!” Victoria replied with more passion than she’d intended, pursing her lips as she kept typing away. Another short bout of silence reigned. And the silence worked like an interrogation, Max’s stare digging into Victoria’s soul despite the fact that Max wasn’t even looking her way. Instead, she had a hand laid over Victoria’s, softly rubbing the back of her hand. Pressure built. And eventually Victoria cracked.
“Alright, fine.” Victoria sighed. “You’re in the way, baby.”
“Am I?”
“Don’t do that.” Victoria groaned, digging her chin further into the crook of Max’s neck. “Don’t you have any homework to do?”
“I spent the weekend in my room, Vic.” Max chuckled. “If I did have homework left, then you’d be in for a disaster.”
“I know, I know.” Victoria sighed. “Can’t you just wait in bed? Scroll Tumblr? We can cuddle when I’m done.”
“You were gone all weekend.” Max replied, voice gone small. “I missed you. I wanted to kiss you all day, thought about it during all our classes. You know how hard that is? Not being able to hug your girlfriend that won’t even look your way? Very hard.”
“I could tell.” Victoria let out a chuckle. “You were blowing up my texts all day, too.”
“Because I missed you!” Max exclaimed, eliciting another groan from Victoria’s lips. Max finally got the hint, and lifted herself from Victoria’s lap to start moving to her bet. She made a whole labored thing out of it, letting out a loud sigh to make clear how much effort it was. Victoria just rolled her eyes.
“I’ll be done in a second.” Max slumped back onto Victoria’s bed, another big sigh leaving her mouth. “Don’t cry, Maxine.”
“I might if you keep me waiting.”
“Drama queen.”
