Work Text:
Opening shot, the Bunch (of Friends) in their car, Coy in the drivers seat. Anthony and Hanbon holding shovels in the back, Will in shotgun has a camera in his hands. A couple minutes ago the four were fighting for their lives against anti skateboard eating protestors, as well as Lord Patterson. The aforementioned, who is assumed to be dead, is in the trunk of their car. Will looks at his reflection in the camera lens. “Maybe we shouldn’t bring the camera.” Anthony stops zoning out while looking outside his window, shooting a confused look in Will’s direction.
“You brought the camera?”
“Well, we’re going to need a video to come back on eventually.
“We have plenty of time later, but now we have other things we need to focus on,” Coy says, rapidly tapping his finger on the wheel. His eyes are on the road but it gets harder and harder to focus.
“Coy are you okay?” Will asks
“Don’t need to worry about that now Will, just let me focus on finding where to bury him.” Will decides not to press further. The car is filled with a horribly tense silence, that lasts until Coy parks the car outside the nearest forest he knows of. They get out and towards the trunk. As Coy opens it, the four stand together, all looking at whats inside. “Not it.” Coy noes goes, Will and Hanbon swiftly follow. Anthony puts his head in his hands sighing.
“Okay fine.”
The four are walking through a forest, Coy leading the group in the front, Will behind him with a shovel in his hand, Hanbon second to last, also shovel in hand, and Anthony who’s last, carrying Patterson on his back.
“Do you think the Devil would find us here?” Hanbon asks.
“What?” Will looks back at her.
“Like, you know the Jersey Devil right?”
“Devil likes sin and murder is.. a sin?”
“Honestly the Devil himself showing up here wouldn’t be the worse thing to happen today,” Coy chimes in, he’s met with more silence. The four continue walking. “Can you guys say something so I’m not alone with my thoughts.”
“And that's how I found out I was really good at limbo,” Will concludes.
“This should be far and secluded enough,” Hanbon says, looking around. No paths around them, only trees. Will and Hanbon begin digging a hole. “So 6ft is like, the standard right?” she says in between digging dirt and tilting it into a pile besides her.
“Yeah, like a grave.”
Hours have passed, the four digging in shifts. “This should be deep enough,” Coy says, looking down at what’ll be a grave. Will and Hanbon look down as well before Anthony throws Patterson into it. Coy and Will begin to fill the hole back up with dirt. Burying takes less time than digging, but its still a drag. “They don’t tell you how boring burying bodies are do they.”
“Like in movies?” Anthony asks.
“Yeah. Maybe its because they’re in like, imminent danger, but we’re like,” Coy looks up and around the empty woods, the faint sound of wind blowing leaves, “in the middle of nowhere, and no ones coming after us.”
“Like, what’s the point!” Hanbon adds.
“Exactly!”
A beat.
“Do you guys think he’s actually dead, or just unconscious.”
“You never checked?”
“Well he probably would have woken up by now and if he does he’ll probably suffocate since he’s in the dirt and I wasn’t going to buy a coffin for him because he killed Shirley and also coffins are expensive these days,” Coy says without taking a breath, and then shoveling more dirt. “We should have a funeral for Shirley.”
“Yeah,” the others agree . Another moment of silence. Anthony pulls out his phone, and somehow only now notices the words written in sharpie on his face in it’s reflection, he looks up at Coy as it everything immediately clicks in his mind.
“Coy did you write ‘Gay’ and ‘Panthony’ on my face last night?”
“Haha, noooooooo,” he replies in the least convincing way possible, “it was probably Will.”
“Hey :(.”
“So was he like, your boyfriend or something?” Hanbon asks.
“I mean we like, barely talked honestly. And like, whatever feelings I had for him disappeared once he started monologuing.”
“Aren’t you a theater kid?” Will adds.
“OKAY well, I don’t know. Something about it just gave me the ick. Like he straight up had a whole villain monologue and it was not hot, like at all.”
Anthony and Hanbon begin to pat down the dirt on the surface, Will grabs a bunch of leaves and sticks on the ground to place on the hole, it doesn't make the large patch of dirt on the ground any less obvious. No one really goes through these woods anyways so they should be fine.
“I’m exhausted.”
“Same.”
“Yeahh.”
“I’m craving fries right now.” Into the distance the four walk through the trees, heading back to their car, leaving behind the obvious dirt filled pit in the ground. They have other things to worry about, like fries, and friendship. Friends, a bunch of them. A Bunch of Friends.
