Chapter Text
-Lucy-
“Maybe we can do a dinner date night in, just the two of us since your mom is at Jenny’s place tonight.”
Lucy waits for Tim’s response as she turns onto their street, returning home after her shift. Tim had extra paperwork to do from the crazy game show incident with the gun men. It was always something, but watch commander hours were far better than metro hours had been the first time they dated.
“That sounds perfect, I’ll see you at home it a bit.”
“K, love you babe, bye.”
“Love you, Luce.”
Lucy ended the call as she pulled into their driveway. She put her car in park on the right side, grabbed her bag and climbed out. She was so looking forward to a hot shower after her long day- lots of dumb people doing dumb things.
Her lip dropped to a pout when she remembered that Kojo was still at Jenny’s, though she knew the boys adored him. Sighing, she shut the car door and walked to the front door. She looked up as she approached the porch, keys in hand and froze.
The front door was cracked open…
Gulping, Lucy dropped her bag and reached inside to grab her off duty gun. She pulled it up in front of her and quietly walked to the door. She peeked in, then pushed the door open. She paused, listening for movement, then stepped inside the house. The house was quiet but as she stepped into the house, she felt the hair on the back of her neck stand up.
Before she could step past the entryway, sudden pain exploded through the back of her head. She saw stars, then felt her knees give out as she clattered to the floor. Her vision blurred severely, she barely made out two black shoes as someone stepped in front of her.
Lucy gasped as she felt a sharp sting in her neck, probably drugs she thought. She tried to fight it, but she quickly slipped into the darkness.
-Tim-
Tim finally left the station, two hours later. His hands were aching from all the paperwork he’d just done and he swore he could still see lines in his vision. He was excited for a quiet night in, with Lucy, just the two of them. He had surprisingly enjoyed having his mother around, but that also meant minimal alone time with his girlfriend. And oh how he’d missed their privacy.
The drive home was quick, the LA traffic rush long gone now. His thoughts wandered to his tonight would go as he drove- start with some wine, dinner then some quality sexy time with his girl. The ideas plastered a warm smile on his face.
Arriving home, he parked his truck next to Lucy’s car. He climbed out, grabbing his backpack and his phone from the seat. He checked his phone, looking for updates on Kojo as he walked to the front door.
He stumbled unexpectedly, something on the ground almost causing his fall while he was busy on his phone. Glancing up, he saw Lucy’s go bag sitting on the sidewalk.
That’s odd.. why would she leave it out here?
Tim looked up and saw her keys a few inches away. He gulped, his blood turning to ice as he finally saw the front door, cracked open just a few inches. Instantly, he knew something was wrong.
Dropping his own bag, he grabbed his off duty gun from his boot strap. He moved stealthily to the door, his back pressed against the frame as he peered inside. His ears were ringing, his heart racing all focused on one thing. Find Lucy.
He pushed the door open, stepping inside. He checked behind the door, then moved further inside.
What he found would be forever burned in his memory.. an alarming puddle of blood with drag marks reaching the rug by the door.
Tim gulped thickly as he stepped over the evidence to quickly sweep the bedrooms, bathroom and garage. Nothing. He moved back to the kitchen, checking the backyard and living area for any sign of her.
“Lucy!”
He yelled her name, even though he already knew. His gut twisted violently, threatening to make him sick. He yanked out his phone and dialed Angela’s number.
“You’re interrupting date night, Timothy.”
Angela’s snarky comment barely registered in his brain. He was already back tracking to the entryway, looking for clues of Lucy’s disappearance. What the hell happened?
“It’s happ-ending.. again. Ang.. she’s gone,” Tim was shaking so badly, he could barely get the words out. His heart was racing, his mind going a million miles a minute. Who could’ve taken Lucy?
“Who?”
“TIM!”
“Who’s gone?”
“Lucy,” Tim’s voice broke. He’d paced back into the kitchen, something catching his eye on the table. Stepping closer, his breath caught in his throat. Sweat formed on his brow, his fingers shaking as he reached out to pick up Lucy’s phone.
“I’m coming right now! Don’t touch anything, Tim!”
He hung up his own phone, then unlocked Lucy’s phone. His eyes turned into saucers, his breath hitched as his knees went weak.
There, on her screensaver, someone had changed it to a new picture. This one showed Lucy on the floor of their house, blood pooling around her head. Her eyes were closed, her gun at her side like she’d fallen after a blow to her head.
The sight dropped Tim into the closest chair, his mouth was dry and he felt tears in his eyes.
Next to her, a slip of paper with writing lay on the ground. Tim lifted the phone closer to read the writing. His breath hitched, pulse racing and fear mixed with anger rushed through him. He knew who did this. And it was all his fault.
The writing said:
Here’s your mistake, coming to haunt you, as promised. -E
