It's been weeks since LettuceK had last breathed fresh air. He had been isolated and imprisoned in the dark and claustrophobic obsidian box for... What? Days? Weeks? The caracal had lost count long ago. Ever since he lost hope for the server.
He wondered how the server had been doing in Parrot's hands, Lettuce had truly hoped for the best for the server unlike the others. The man still believed everything would be better if it went his way.
Lettuce raised his head slightly after he noticed a silhouette cast upon the ground. When he finally laid eyes on the figure themself, he wasn't shocked. He didn't flinch. He couldn't contemplate what he was feeling at all.
Deputy_ace.
" ...So, "
The deputy wore a soft smile, a fragile thing, painfully at odds with the face of the murderer who had ended his life.
" I've finally gone mad. "
Lettuce stared at Ace with an irritated and almost frustrated look on his face. It wasn't towards Ace, never. But towards the ridiculous situation he had ended up getting himself in.
" Or perhaps you'd consider the possibility of spirits? " Deputy_Ace replied without any vengeance toward his dearest best friend, and somehow that absence of anger made it worse, as his hands gently rested between the gaps of the small opening of the prison door. " I don't believe in such things. " Lettuce couldn't believe he had fallen so low. How pathetic he was. " You may find yourself believing, even if you don't want to. " Ace chuckled.
" How many people do you think hold grudges against you? " Lettuce scoffed at Ace's words, yet he could not bring himself to look at the latter. " So, you're the one who bears a grudge against me? " It was only reasonable. If Ace despised him, Lettuce could hardly object. He had never stopped blaming himself either.
" No, not I. "
" I respected you. " Lettuce's ears twitched. " I followed you because you said you would build a better world, but I couldn't stand by and watch it all go astray. " The caracal furrowed his eyebrows in silence, for once, he found himself at a loss for words. " You have lived committing sins. Perhaps the souls of those who resent you will curse you. "
Small beautiful particles of snow entered the prison through the small gap of the irons bars. " You may remain in this prison forever. "
" But, if you atone for every one of them here in this prison... I hope you may atleast spend the rest of your life in peace. "
" That is my wish... "
" ...As your deputy. "
" I— " Lettuce finally gathered the courage to meet Deputy_Ace's eyes, just to find his best friend no longer there.
