Chapter 1: Break-ins and shimmer artists

Chapter Text

The first thing Caitlyn’s eyes landed on after she stepped out of the shower was the luxurious, foggy mirror. The cold air made goosebumps run up her skin as she reached for the towel, wrapping it around herself as she closed the fancy, gold decorated shower doors behind her. She sat gracefully on a small stool right outside her shower, lowering her head to check the wound on her leg that was still dripping blood. She winced, then closed her eyes, taking a deep breath. That bitter fucking scene replayed in her head like a broken record .

First, there was Marcus. After the bomb exploded, she was laying next to him. The bomb caused her the deep wound that made her leg go dull and her unable to walk without assistance for a few days. She had watched Marcus slowly lose the light from his eyes, heard him say his last words.
“Tell my daughter I-..” After that? Everything was a blur. Vi ran to help her up, then came Jinx with her gun, then Ekko. All that while she was slowly losing consciousness. Thankfully Vi carried her back to the other side of the bridge.
Caitlyn could tell Vi was hurting, too. And she wanted to give her justice, wanted to leave Jinx to rot in Stillwater’s worst cells for the rest of her life.

She had brought Vi to a council meeting to help the investigation against the under-city terrorist, but it ended with Vi arguing with the councillors and getting both of them kicked out.

Oil and water don’t mix, just like Piltover and Zaun couldn’t find peace. Caitlyn and Vi? Oil and water.

She opened her eyes again, letting her breath out. She got up, trying her best to walk without being helped or leaning against something. As she finally reached the sink, when she looked up, staring at her reflection through the foggy mirror, she was met with a strange sight. The mirror wasn’t fully fogged like it usually was when she got out of the shower, instead, there were a few smudged lines, as if something was written, or drawn on it. However, Caitlyn was sure she hadn’t touched the mirror, and nobody had been in that room other than her.

Right?

…Wrong.

She recognised the monkey drawn on her mirror very quickly.

She saw it for the first time on the storage room’s door of the airship Jinx had raided. Drawn messily with shimmer. Then all over the building she exploded, and on the bridge.
Her head snapped to look behind her, her eyes immediately landing on two pink, neon flashing lights.

Jinx.

She didn’t even get time to panic before she saw those two lights move in a speed blitz and got knocked out. And that was pretty much all she remembered.
