His Lucky Charm

Summary:

Bennett doesn't know how it happened, what went wrong (or right?), or what shifted within the stars but his bad luck wasn't as bad as it was meant to be.

Work Text:

Bennett was known for his unnecessarily bad luck.

Everyone knew about it and most people avoided him for it. He wouldn't blame them, he was just grateful he wasn't completely friendless.

But lately, his bad luck had seemingly dwindled to nothing but a minor inconvenience.

Bennett doesn't know how it happened, what went wrong (or right?), or what shifted within the stars but his bad luck wasn't as bad as it was meant to be.

He's been thinking for weeks now─a task foreign to him─and the only conclusion he can jump to is her.

Ever since they'd gotten closer, his ill-fortune was slowly fading. She was one of the few people who initially didn't care about his bad luck.

She said she'd liked him for him. It didn't matter all the seemingly random tragedies that plagued him. She liked hanging around him.

They spent almost all their time together. Bennett couldn't believe that someone like her would even give him the time of day, but alas, she did and he cherished every second they spent together.

Although their adventures never yielded the best results, she never complained. Just gave him a vibrant smile with encouraging words, well, he assumed they were meant to be encouraging.

He's still learning her lengthy vocabulary, but, he'll get there eventually...

Bennett felt a soft blush spread on his cheeks as he thought about her. She was so pretty, long blonde hair with pretty emerald eyes, she truly did look like a princess.

Despite half her face essentially being covered by her hair and eye patch, Bennett still got his breath taken away whenever he looked at her.

Her mastery with her vision and undeniable talent in archery also amazed him. Everything about her was perfect, even the flaws everyone else saw in her, he found them irrelevant, she was mesmerizing all the same.

It was strange really, he couldn't believe Celestia had blessed him with such a flawless companion...or friend? He wasn't really sure what he was to her, she regularly dubbed him as her knight, and if that was all he'd ever be, he'd be fine with it.

And if she was anything to him, she was his lucky charm, the most important person in his life...

"Benny...?" a soft voice called out, reigning in him from his thoughts, "Your Prinzessin did not mean to make her liege wait so long."

Bennett turned to Fischl, soft smile on his face, taking a few greedy seconds to be enamored by her effortless beauty.

She was sat right beside him, on the plush grass. They had agreed to meet outside of Mondstadt's city 10 minutes ago, something must've held her up but he didn't mind, as long as she was here now.

"Are you okay, Bennett?" he was snapped back into it when her act faltered, voice changing as her face down turned in tune with her concern.

Instantly, the soft blush on his face went ablaze, "Yeah! Y-yes I'm fine!" he stammered and tripped over his words before sighing in defeat, "I-I was just...thinking."

Fischl uncharacteristically giggled at his antics, making Bennett's heart beat faster, "Humour me, my dear Bennett, what ails you so? What has you so deep in thought?"

He really shouldn't answer that, wouldn't she find it creepy that his thoughts were obsessively about her. He should just avoid the question or change the subject, it'd be the smarter decision.

And yet, his mouth acted faster than his brain could─

"You." he heard himself say, eyes locked onto hers, "I was thinking about you."

An almost crippling silence washed over them. Bennett wanted so badly to take it back, to look away from her, but he couldn't.

Instead, he watched, watched as Fischl's face morphed from shock to an adorably flushed expression.

"M-me?" she faltered, her usual Prinzessin character slipping away, "Why a-are you thinking about me...?" her voice was soft, she sounded almost shy.

Since he had already dug his grave, he might as well lie in it, "I was just—" he averted his gaze, his heart was so loud he could hear it in his ears, "I was thinking about my bad luck..."

His companion tilted her head in confusion, subconsciously shifting closer in her intrigue.

"...and how it's somehow lessened ever since I met you."

Fischl hummed inquisitively. He wasn't sure if she'd done it on purpose, but he could feel her pinky slightly touch his. Despite the soft plush grass beneath his palm, that single point of contact set his entire nervous system into a frenzy.

"I am no mage dear Benny, I can't change your fate nor can I cure your misfortune..." her voice sounded more ethereal, so close he could smell her intoxicating scent, it suffocated him in the best ways possible.

"I know..." he answered, almost dumbly, "is it so wrong though to think you're my—"

"—Your what?" she cut him off impatiently, like she's been waiting for this confession all her life.

"My...lucky charm." he whispered, he wasn't sure if that's what she wanted to hear, but it was the best label he could think of that encompassed everything he felt for her.

Still, time seemed to slow down as his eyes zeroed in on every micro movement Fischl made as she shifted closer, closer, closer still before planting a timid chaste kiss on his cheek, the rough skin there burning with the contact.

Her lips were terribly soft and plump. Rosy as their heat stamped itself in his skin, the feel of her lips ingrained in his memory forever now.

Once she pulled back, Bennett was sure his face was completely beet red and every sound was impossibly clear in his ears.

Fischl smiled, the most beautiful smile he'd ever seen, with cute blushing cheeks, "Your lucky charm..." she echoed, voice just a above a whisper, "I could live with that."

Notes:

Tried to do Fischl's fancy talk from memory...uhm, mission failed, I'm never doing this again without researching first💀.

Anygays, soz this one's so short, it's more of a spontaneous headcanon for these two babies so it's not really a fleshed out idea xD.

Hope y'all enjoyed regardless, love y'all!
