Chapter Text
The boy lay in his bed, tears staining the satin pillowcase while he traced the silky hem absentmindedly. He occasionally chokes on his silent tears, cursing the god who decided to hinder his emotion with the ‘’gift’’ of muteness. A party goes on outside, people dancing and music louder than the usual soft hum in the background as Alex stays hidden.
His own birthday party, and they decided to invite the very man that crushed not only his windpipe but also his dreams of being a singer. He can hear the man dancing around, probably a glass of whiskey in hand with that flushed and drunk look all adults get when they’ve had too much liquor for their body. Alex covers his ear with his hands, tears picking up their steady pace as the noise gets too abundant and too loud for the boy. He yearns to yell down; to tell them to quiet up so he can hear his own mind and think! but he can't. He can barely breathe properly without the whole in his throat to keep him from suffocating on his own scar tissue.
The computer whirs on without a user, but Alex isn't paying attention.
His ears are ringing, the tag on his sock is no longer welcome and everything seems like too much. He isn’t focusing nor aware of the fact that his computer is on, a page about sign language closed out, and opened to a cult application page. He only notices when he turns around in bed to see the screen glitching out and a hand of tanned and soft looking skin and bone inches out of the pool of code and webpages.
Alex’s tears falter. His breathing quickened in the slightest. Maybe, just maybe, something had decided to help him by sending a helper…
An angel.
—-
BEN was just searching the web for a new ‘’toy’’, as they put it. Finding a small and quite old computer signal in a house full of i-phones and i-pads and debating with the souls on whether they should check it out. A part of them is refusing to go outright because they don't want to end up in some dusty box, but the rest were on board. BEN didn’t see a problem with exploring.
They reached a hand into their monitor, feeling that the appendage didn’t hit anything solid. ‘’That's a good sign!’’ one of the younger souls thought, but BEN wasn't really in the mood to tell anyone off today. In fact, the hive mind is feeling quite human for a change. BEN stuck its head through next, big glassy eyes surveying the room where they ended up carefully before falling onto a boy. Looking curious as the brunette-haired boy stared up at them with wide, almost fearful eyes that were shaded with a bright green BEN hadn't seen with a victim before. This victim will be interesting.
—-
Alex froze, tears staining his cheek still as he shifted up to see better. Watching as the hand came into the elbow before a face popped out of his computer. Alex’s breath would’ve caught in his throat if it was still functioning. This helper… is beautiful. Alex is sure he hasn't done anything worth the help, let alone be able to see such a beautiful angel in person. He noted how the angel's eyes sparkled with something he can’t place, with soft looking hair that has a hue of unnatural green, but this is an ‘’Angel’’ we’re talking about, with big, round and almost soft looking pitch-black eyes that seemed to stare through the boy instead of at him.
Alex was nearly hypnotized, unable to make a noise at all but much calmer than a normal person would be in this situation, hair falling over his eyes like it always does in important moments as Alex holds the blanket tighter to his chest. He still doesn't know why an Angel has come to visit a lowly human like him, but he's grateful for the unforgettable sight.
—-
BEN wasn’t planning on such interesting prey.
They tilted their head curiously, as if studying the boy from inside out before they crawled fully into the dark room. Carefully inching towards this boy to get a better look at this new, and quite pitiful specimen. The hive mind almost feels bad for it, it won’t hurt to show a small bit of compassion to the victim–right?
BEN extended a hand to attempt at comforting the crying boy, finding it quite weird how the boy has stayed silent but not questioning it and deciding to tune into his mind to see what he's thinking instead of analyzing words that can be faked. BEN’s hand found its way to patting the boy’s head like a human showing affection to a pet, BEN not very well versed on the psychology of comfort but knowing that physical affection may help with overwhelming emotion.
—-
Alex was mesmerized, barely even registering that the being was getting closer until its hand was in his hair. Alex completely melted into the small amount of physical affection, hand going up to hold BEN’s hand to his head like a dog greedy for attention of any kind.
Alex leaned closer unconsciously like BEN was the last source of heat on a post-apocalyptic planet, somehow ending up pulling who he still thinks is divine comfort into a hug by the waist, crying silent tears again but this time from overwhelming relief that someone is finally there. Trying not to get too much of his tears onto the higher being’s shirt as he sought comfort from the artificial but warm body.
—-
BEN did NOT plan for this. Majora is squealing into their headspace and it's pissing the hive mind off slightly, but alas he now has stuff to deal with. Kinda like the human who’s currently clinging onto them like some touch starved teenage– …oh fuck.
BEN chose the only touch starved teens computer to materialize through. This is their amazing luck. Now they’re going to have to toy with a clearly emotionally vulnerable person… it's no fun if you don't get to make them vulnerable first! BEN huffed mentally, just deciding to play this off as best they can and leaning into the hug of the human. Cradling the back of the boy's head carefully and being oddly gentile for a manipulative entity.
—-
Alex nearly whimpered (pathetic boy move), leaning into the touch desperately. Completely wrapping his arms around BEN carefully like he didn't want to scare the entity off, relaxing into the ‘’Angels’’ arms completely as he almost fell asleep from the sudden rush of comfortability. Feeling nearly limp in BEN’s arms as the hive mind sat beside him, watching as the boy stayed latched onto them with curiosity.
Alex was much calmer, now only focused on the affection instead of the booming voice of someone he used to know getting closer and closer until the locked door handle jiggled. Alex was completely relaxed, like a sleeping cat curled up in a ‘’guardian angel’s’’ lap.
