Delicious Dripping Crimson

Summary:

There were once a farmer and a music teacher, who brought their people glee

After centuries, their friendship remains the same.

Or: Cobigail and Trencil catch up.

Work Text:

“Hm? What’s this? A new mortal, rustling my leaves? I’ll have you know, naive little soul, that I’m feeling hungry… FOR SOME BLOOD!

Cobigail’s scary face was short lived as it faced with its mirror image, sending Her back with a hiss

“Ah! Good, very good!” She laughed, setting a pair of hands on Her ‘waist’.

“It’s nice to see you never change”

“Neither do you, old man”

“We’re both old, very old by now, my dear,” Trencil nodded solemnly.

“How long has it been now? Fifty, sixty years?”

“Sixty seven years since I last visited you. I’m sorry it took me so long”

“Yikes, what gives? We had two gods in the time you were gone! I mean, one stepped down, but still”

“Time just goes by so much quicker on Earth. With such a mundane existence, it’s easy to get wrapped in its flow… until a few years ago, that is.”

“Ohoh? Then what what brings you back to our humble home?”

The vampire took a step back, and pulled off his cape to reveal the young girl that was hiding underneath, who suddenly jumped and gave him a betrayed gaze.

“Dad!”

“There’s nothing to be ashamed of, dearest. Fearing a god is only natural.” He took her shoulder to push her forward, “Cobigail, this is my precious daughter, Nat. Natalie, this is my good friend and patron, Cobigail”

“Aha, I knew my roots couldn’t be wrong! Some fresh blood for Cobi!”

“Okay, first of all, we know about the jam. Dad makes a copy at home all the time, so you can, like, chill out with that” the girl explained with a deadpan expression, as if she hadn’t been trembling a second ago. “Second, it’s not my fault he made you sound so laaame”

“Lame? Me?” She took a hand to Her chest, “Trencil, you traitor.”

“I didn’t make you sound ‘lame’. Everyone speaks of you as a god, I merely spoke of you as I knew you: a music teacher who played pranks around town and baby-talked to the animals.”

Rude. How would you like it if I told the next mortal that comes into my domain how my bestie in life was a softie farmer that got bit like a loser?”

“That wouldn’t be so bad”

“You’re insufferable, you know that?”

Natalie raised an eyebrow. “Hold up, you knew dad before he was a vampire?”

“Girl, he got bit almost at the same time my campaign for Godhood began. Talk about stealing my thunder.”

“I was protecting my people from a primitive beast. A mistaken taste of blood must’ve driven them to madness. What a tragedy”

“You’ve killed people?!”

“Only that one time, my sweet sprout”

“That’s metal!”

“It isn’t ‘metal’ to take a life, no matter how dangerous it was.”

“Nuh-uh, it is metal to protect your community like that,” Cobigail objects, which makes Natalie grin

“See? You’re going to fight a god, dad?”

“A trouble making god,” despite the tone, he couldn’t help the small grin tugging at his lips.

“Because you’re so innocent.” A malicious grin spread across Her face. “Hey, Nat, did he tell you about how once we spent a whole night scaring children with a vampire-and-werewolf act?”

“Ach-”

Do tell

God and vampire continued to reminisce about the old times, while updating each other on the new ones. Natalie pretended not to care, an act that convinced Trencil more than Cobigail, which made her laugh at his dismay. Eventually, as the start feast approached, their goodbyes came a little too early for their liking.

Natalie stepped out first, but before Trencil could follow, a root crept upon his leg.

“Hey, old man.”

“Yes?”

“Don’t take so long next time, yeah? I’m not the only one who missed you”

He turned back at Her, giving a small bow, “I promise to come by more often, now that my earthly ties don’t restrain me. I missed my dear home.”

“Good, you better keep your word. Because if you don’t… I’LL—

I’LL EAT YOU UP!

They shared a final laugh, and finally Trencil stepped out of the domain.

Cobigail waved until there was no one left.
