Chapter Text
Marta hadn't heard from Cloe in several days. Her girlfriend had been avoiding her like the plague ever since she realized that Marta still had feelings for Fina.
The businesswoman could only understand how to be with someone who loved another? Someone who was part of her past.
Marta had always been convinced that she wasn't meant for true love. She had accepted her loneliness, being in a long-distance relationship that had made her unhappy for many years, before getting closer to Fina. Fina, who had seen the real woman behind her mask and her many barriers, Fina, who had given her back the breath she had lost over the decades.
Through this love, she had learned to live again, to find the spark she had lost.
Marta, who had once been convinced that she was not a passionate person, devoid of desire, had discovered facets of herself that she did not know through the affection she felt alongside her loved one.
Their relationship had not been easy, although it was very beautiful. They had overcome many obstacles, strengthening their relationship and the special bond that united them. Further reinforcing what the blonde already believed, Fina Valero was the love of her life.
And yet, months later, Marta was sitting here in her office, alone, taking stock of her new life.
She had many reasons to be happy: her job and her collaboration with the Brossard company were going wonderfully, she had grown closer to Carmen, and she had a wonderful new girlfriend.
Cloe had everything he could want: she was attentive and thoughtful, always there to listen to him, cultured and beautiful. And yet her heart kept reminding her that it loved someone else.
Someone who had left and abandoned her.
Marta shook off the thoughts that had been consuming her lately and got to work.
She was absorbed in what she was doing when she was surprised to see Chloe walk in.
Marta stood up instantly, stopping what she was doing, and walked around the desk, waiting to see what her girlfriend was going to do and how she was going to react.
“Marta, I...” Cloe took the blonde's hands in hers, bringing them closer together.
I can't live pretending and acting like I feel something I don't, but I want to... I think I can live hoping that together we have things to discover." Cloe looked at her girlfriend, tears threatening to roll down her cheeks. She was so in love with this extraordinary woman in front of her that she was willing to risk everything for her. But she was waiting for one thing: Marta's sincerity.
Marta, on the other hand, was surprised once again, not expecting her usually temperamental girlfriend to forgive her so easily.
She knew she had to make an important choice and be honest with the woman who was looking at her with love in her eyes.
She deserved that and much more.
She took a deep breath, about to open her heart for the first time in a long time, when there was a knock at the office door, interrupting the atmosphere between the two lovers.
“Come in.” Marta called out, before moving slightly away from her girlfriend, looking at her one last time, before whoever it was entered and saw them in a compromising position.
The two women turned around at the same time, as if synchronized, before seeing the person who had disturbed them and entered the room.
She was a tall brunette with short, straight, almost black hair that fell to her jawline. She had large hazel eyes, wore a pair of glasses on her nose, and had a long black coat over her shoulders, a gray sweater, black pants, and a pair of boots of the same color.
Cloe didn't know this woman, but she had seen enough photos of her at the time to recognize this mysterious person. Serafina Valero, her girlfriend's great lost love. Her first instinct was to watch her girlfriend's reaction. She watched her out of the corner of her eye without saying a word, but she knew at that very moment that her fears were well-founded. Marta was still in love with Fina; her eyes spoke for her. And Fina, who was once only the fruit of a love broken by her disappearance, now stood before them.
Marta was still reeling from what she was seeing. She had had this dream several times, wanting above all else to see this woman again, whom she had missed so much over the past year. And now, the fulfillment of her greatest dream was standing before her, and the blonde didn't know how to react.
She, who was ready to leave Fina in the past and try to open her heart more to her girlfriend, no longer knew how she felt.
“Am I disturbing you? I can come back at a more convenient time if you like?”
It was Fina who broke the silence that was becoming heavy in the room.
"Not at all, we were done there.
She looked at Marta, gave her a knowing glance, then swallowed her tears and felt her heart break in the face of the silence.
You have things to say to each other, but please, don't ruin everything." She whispered to Fina before leaving the room, leaving the two women alone and herself to mourn the loss of an unrequited love.
That was the price she had to pay for being in love with a woman who loved another.
