Chapter 1: Castle

Chapter Text

4/9/2016
On her way back from the gym, Samus noticed a student staring off into space, not paying attention to any of the other passengers. The black haired boy in front of her was an oddity. For some reason, he seemed like just another person. But the more she saw of him, the more that she was certain he wasn't. It almost seemed insane, but she was certain that he was someone she should pay attention to. Samus's instincts were always a thing that she trusted immediately. As far back as she remembered, relying on her instincts kept her safe. She didn't remember much of her childhood, other than feelings of fear and running, but she had a feeling that it wasn't pretty. She grew up in Tokyo, but she didn't remember much until a few years ago for some reason. Whenever she thought back, it was just hazy memories and feelings.

Samus shook herself out of her memories, much to the annoyance of the people around her. All of a sudden, a pair of students started loudly gossiping, drawing the attention of both the boy and Samus.

"Are you for real? A mental shut down?" The first one said with a disbelieving look on her face.

"It's the truth!" The other one said with a look of excitement.

"To a person though? That's gotta be a joke. You really love all that occult stuff, don't you?" Almost as soon as they stopped talking, the train arrived, and Samus walked out into Shibuya. She hated the train station, it never made any sense. It was like some sort of maze. She sighed, and walked around, trying to find the train over to Kichijoji where her apartment is.

Samus finally got back after an hour or so, yet she was still preoccupied by the memories of the black haired boy from the train. It was weird. She had this feeling that he was important somehow, but she couldn't figure out why. She sighed and put her gym bag down, then walked to the kitchenette to make herself a cup of tea. She had just turned the kettle on, when a voice rang in her head.

"Don't forget…" It said, "DON'T FORGET, SAMUS!" Samus fell to her knees in pain. The voice felt like a migraine, and with it came flashes of images that made no sense. A giant, skeletal dragon standing over her, A floating green blob flying around her, a robot chasing her down. But as soon as it started, it was gone. She stood back up, breathing heavily. Samus had never experienced anything like it. At least, she thought she hadn't.
"Whatever. That just got into my head. I'm a third year student at Shujin, living in Japan. Skeleton dragons and giant robots don't exist." She thought, desperately trying to convince herself. But no matter how much she knew that it wasn't possible, the images were so vivid.

"I should get to bed early tonight. I'm just tired." She reasoned. And with those images still fresh in her mind, she went to sleep.

Samus woke up from a nightmare. As soon as she sat up, she calmed down. "It was just a dream…" She reasoned. After a quick shower and some breakfast, Samus left her apartment to get to her part time job at the flower shop. While there, she heard about a train accident that occurred only a few short hours ago. She sighed and shook her head, wondering how this would affect her commute to school.
Once she got home, Samus once again found herself making tea when the voice returned to her. "REMEMBER! REMEMBER SAMUS!" it screamed in her head, followed by even more images. A pair of bird people talking to her, a monster in black armor raising a glowing arm at her, and a woman in similar, orange armor fighting a green monster in front of an open space hatch.

"W-whatever." Samus said. "These are just scenes from a movie I forgot I saw. Yeah, that's it." Samus wasn't one to feel fear. She felt confident in herself. After all, being unsure wasn't something she could afford. Why she felt like that she couldn't quite recall but she was sure that there was an important reason for it

She shook herself out of her thoughts, and went back to sleep.

Samus awoke with a start, breathing heavily. She had a dream that was more of those images the voice in her head gave her. No matter how hard she tried, she couldn't convince herself that it was fake.

After a quick shower, she found herself on the train back to Shibuya, so she could transfer to get to Shujin. She always had to leave a little earlier than she'd like, mostly because she could never find her way around without a map at all. When she finally made it to Aoyama Itchome, it was pouring. She sighed and started looking in her bag for her umbrella.

Once she finally found it, she saw the black haired boy once again, standing next to a blond girl under an awning. All of a sudden, a car pulled up next to them both, and a voice started to speak. "Good morning. Do you want me to give you a ride to school? You're gonna be late."

After a moment of hesitation, the blond girl spoke up. "Um, sure. Thank you." She then began to walk up to the car, and the person inside turned to the boy. "Do you need a lift too?" The boy replied with a polite no, but Samus had made up her mind.
She ran up beside the car and said "You're offering a ride? Can I have one too? I would hate to be late this early on in my first year here!" The man, who she could now see had a blocky chin and was wearing a track suit, smiled.

"Of course young lady! I'd be more than happy too." He said. Then he gestured to the back door, and Samus got in, glaring at the man when he looked away. She had a bad feeling about this man, and she always trusted her instincts. Leaving the girl alone with him felt like a quick route to compromising her safety, and Samus hated men like that.

After both of the blond girls were buckled, the man pulled off of the side of the road, and began driving down to the school. As soon as they were on the road, the man spoke up. "I don't think I recognize you. Are you a first year? Because you are really tall for one."

Samus put on her best smile and said. "Actually, I'm a third year. I just transferred here for this year. I assume you are a teacher?"

The man nodded absentmindedly and said "I'm the P.E. teacher. You should sign up for a sport, You certainly look athletic enough for it."

"I actually already keep myself pretty busy, but I suppose I can look into it." Samus replied. "I mostly just practice combat stuff. I enjoy it." Samus looked at the man with a glare, hoping that he would get the message and stay away from her.

He smiled again and said "Well, you would do great in volleyball in my opinion. And trust me, I would know. I once won an Olympic medal for it."

"That's very impressive sir." And with that, the car arrived at the school. Samus and the girl got out and gave their goodbyes to the teacher. As soon as the teacher pulled away, Samus turned to the girl and said "Are you okay? That man seemed like the type that shouldn't be allowed to be a teacher."
The girl looked at the ground with a look that made Samus worry and said. "Yeah, thanks Senpai." And with that, the girl walked off to class. Other than that, it wasn't a very eventful day.

Samus arrived at school once again, and at the end of the day, she saw the black haired boy standing at the school gates with a kid with bleached hair. Samus slowly walked up to the pair, and heard the faux blonde say "All we're doing is starting an app."

The phone in his hand then said "Kamoshida, Shujin Academy, Pervert, Castle. Beginning navigation." And all of a sudden, the world began to flash in shades of red and black. As soon as the flashing faded, The trio was standing in front of a huge spaceship that strangely had a medieval theme to it. It almost looked like an alien spaceship had crashed, and then a castle was built on top of it. But when Samus looked at this huge, purple shipwreck, she felt a wave of nostalgia. Behind her, a voice began to speak.

"WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED HERE!?!? AND WHO THE HELL ARE YOU!!!" Samus turned around to see that the faux blonde was the one who screamed, and was staring at Samus in shock. Samus turned around and raised her eyebrow at him.

"I could ask the same." She gestured to the castle spaceship hybrid. "That was the school only seconds ago, and now it's some sort of technological enigma!" She then gestured back to the pair of boys, where she finally noticed that the black haired boy had changed his outfit and was wearing a white mask with black outlining his eyes. "Who the hell are you two? Because this isn't exactly normal."

The black haired boy stepped forward and said, "Yeah, you could say that. We know someone who should have some answers, but now that the place is completely different then yesterday, I have no idea where to start."

Samus rolled her eyes and said. "Fine. Well, let's just start with introductions. I'm Samus, a third year student at Shujin. And I have no idea what the fuck is going on."

The black haired kid smirked, then gestured to himself. "You can call me Ren. And this is Ryuji. And welcome to what used to be a completely normal castle run by a pedophile."

"Hey! Don't tell this random girl my name!" Ryuji yelled. Suddenly, a third voice appeared behind Samus.

"Shut up you idiots! Just because something weird has happened here doesn't mean that you can just yell at the top of your lungs!" The voice yelled. Samus turned around to see a cat monster thing.

"Well, aren't you an odd cat shaped thief?" Samus said, her voice neutral despite the odd thing in front of her. She shook her head and sighed. "Relax. They won't look for anyone out here. The ruins they’re on top of have a natural sensor jamming effect." She rattled out before she even realized what she was saying. "The best entrance is underneath the ship over there." She pointed at a slope, then froze. "How the hell do I know that?"
"What the hell? How the hell? Y'know what, it doesn't matter. Welcome to the metaverse. This is how Kamoshida sees the school. Or at least, it was, before this happened to it. In the end, it doesn't really matter. You seem to know something about this place, so it just seems smart to bring you along at this point."

Without any of this odd group's knowledge, a being was watching them from atop the highest point of the castle. "So, the hatchling has finally started the hunt again, has she?" The being spoke in a low, raspy voice. "Let's see if that so-called god's promises ring true." The being then began to cackle to itself, before flying off on its massive wings.
