Work Text:

It has been a hard shift; he was late this morning and had to jump on a trauma right when he got in. It was a car crash, one passenger was injured, a few broken bones and a big cut on his head. In the other car were a mother and daughter. The mother died on impact, and the daughter was fatally injured. Neither of them were wearing seatbelts.

The daughter was heavily injured, unconscious when she got wheeled in. They coded her for 3 hours but she ended up dying. After their moment of silence Whitaker had rushed out and cried in the bathroom. His head started feeling fuzzy but he’s willed it down, it was too early.

He went through the rest of his shift clumsily, Tripping over carts and dropping things. He tried to avoid Robby’s concerned looks, practically running away when he saw him. He managed to keep this up all day. He hurried out of the building at the end of his shift thinking he was in the clear when he felt a hand on his shoulder.

He turned around and stood face to face with Robby. Looking up at him with big eyes. The older man smiled “Hey kid, you alright?” Dennis nodded, not trusting his voice. Robby’s smile faltered at the silence “Do you have a ride him back to Santos?” Dennis nodded. “Bud” He said quietly, looking down at his feet. “By bus?” He cleared his troath. “How about I give you a ride? It’s already eight and I don’t want you getting into any trouble. I know how ruthless the evening busses can be.” He squeezed Dennis’s shoulder.

He looked up and cocked his head “Bige?” Robby smiled. “Yeah, do you want that?” Dennis thought for a second and nodded hesitantly. Robby led them to the bike, not removing his hand from Dennis's shoulder.

Robby grabbed the helmet from his bag and slid it onto Dennis's head. Before clicking it shut and adjusting the straps to fit around his head snugly. He climbed onto the bike and patted the backseat. "Just hold onto me, it'll be okay.” Dennis climbed onto the bike and hesitantly placed his hands on Robby's waist. The older man reached by and wrapped Dennis's arms around his waist. ‘That’s better.’ Robby started the engine and started driving.

When they got on the highway the wind got loud. Dennis whined at the sound of the wind hurting his ears. Robby heard this and put a hand on Dennis’, stroking his hand with his thumb. “We're almost there.” He said loud enough for him to hear. Dennis nodded and pressed himself against Robby, feeling the heat of the man’s skin even though his jacket.

They pulled up to Trinity’s apartment, Robby shut of his bike. “Here we are.” He said. Dennis didn’t move. Robby smiled and slowly removed Dennis’s arms from his waist. He got of the bike and helped the younger boy off. His eyes were glassy and unfocused.

Putting a hand on his back he walked him to the door, Dennis’s steps were unsteady. He fumbled with his keys. Robby slowly grabbed his keys out of his hands and opened the door for him. “There we are” His voice was soft.

Dennis didn’t move as the door swung open. Robby heard Trinity call from somewhere inside. Dennis’s eyes started watering at the sound of her voice. Robby slowly pushed the boy inside and followed him in, pulling the door closed behind them.

He put Dennis down on the small bench next to the door and took off his shoes for him, before taking of his own. Dennis’s eyes were still fixated on the place where Trinity’s voice came from. Robby helped Dennis up and led him to the door.

Robby knocked “Doctor Santos?” A few moments passed before she opened the door. “Robby what the fuck ar-” Before she could finish her sentence she was almost knocked over by Dennis, who had ran into her arms and hugged her. He buried his head into her shoulder. “Mommy” He whined softly, tears now spilling from his eyes.

Trinity smiled and hugged him back, softly rocking him back and forth. “Hi mouse.” Her voice was softer than Robby had ever head before. They stood there for a minute, Trinity quietly calming down the boy in her arms.

She turned her attention back to Robby. “Thanks for taking his home.” She said quietly. “Of course” Robby smiled. “Hey Mouse?” Dennis looked up from her shoulder. “I need to let Robby out. Do you want to come with?” Dennis nodded, clearly not ready to let Trinity go. “Alright sweetheart, but you gotta let go of me.” Dennis pouted but did as he was told.

He quickly latched onto her arm, putting his free thumb into his mouth. Trinity shrugged and walked to the door, Robby followed them wordlessly. Trinity opened the door and Robby stepped outside, the cold night air making him shiver.

He gave them a smile and turned around to leave. “Wait.” Robby turned back “Please don’t tell anyone about this, he’s sensitive about his regression.” Robby smiled. “Of course not Santos, what my employees do outside their work hour is not my business.” Trinity smiled, relieved. “Alright thanks, I'll see you tomorrow Robby.” Robby nodded. “See you tomorrow Santos.” He turned to Dennis. “See you tomorrow kid.” Dennis took his thumb out of his mouth and waved before tucking himself closer against Trinity.

Robby wallked off and Trinity closed pulled the door closed behind him. She turned to Dennis with a smile and led him to the couch. He crawled onto her lap and leaned his head on her shoulder. Before long he was asleep on her shoulder.

He let him rest for a while and woke him up at ten thirty. She shook his softly “Mouse, wake up.” He whined and buried his head deeper into her shoulder. Trinity sighed “You have to get up. I need to take you to your bed.”

Dennis pouted but got off her lap anyway. His stomach rumbled. “Humgry.” He said quietly, rubbing his eyes. Trinity’s eyes softened. “I’ll get you something to eat, come with me.” Dennis followed her to the kitchen.

He climbed up onto a chair and watched Trinity make him cereal. She grabbed a bib from the drawer and put it around his neck before grabbing the cereal and a spoon. “Open up” Dennis opened his mouth and Trinity started feeding him.

When the cereal finished Trinity put the bowl in the skin, wiped Dennis’s face and took off his bib. “You ready to go to sleep?” Trinity asked, yawing. Dennis nodded and rubbed his eyes. She helped him from the chair and they walked to the bathroom.

Trinity helped his change into pull ups and a shirt, he never liked wearing pants when he’s regressed. She helped him brush his teeth and then brushed her own. When she spit Dennis tugged on her shirt. “Sleep, you?” Trinity wiped her mouth. “What do you mean mouse?”

Dennis frowned and grabbed Trinity by her sleeve and marched them to her room. He laid down on her bed, almost pulling Trinity with him. She smiled. “Do you want to sleep with me?” Dennis nodded and sat up. “Sleep you.”

Trinity shrugged, they had to get up at the same time anyway. “Alright, just this time Mouse.” Dennis laughed and clapped his hands before reaching out to Trinity. “I need to go change mouse.” She leaned forward slowly pushing him down onto the bed. “I’ll be right back sweetie, you get comfy.”

She grabbed her clothes and disappeared into the bathroom. Dennis sat up and stared at the bathroom door waiting for Trinity to come back. A few minutes later he heard her footsteps around the apartment, he frowned and got off the bed to search for her.

He opened the bathroom door and padded out into the living room. He looked around and saw Trinity in his room. He walked over to her “What doin?” Trinity jumped. “Jezus mouse you scared me.” She was holding his blanket, lamb and pacifier. Dennis tilted his head in confusion. “They’re for you baby.” He grabbed his pacifier and put it in his mouth. Then he grabbed Trinity by her sleeve and pulled her back to her room.

Trinty laid down on her bed, Dennis quickly joined her. She gave him his lamb. “Here you go sweetie.” Dennis smiled, holding the lamb plushie to his chest. He curled up against Trinity, who wrapped her arm around him. “Goodnight Mouse.” Dennis mumbled something unintelligible and closed his eyes. Drifting off quickly. Trinity followed not far behind.
