Monika was miserable. She had everything she asked for, every iota of her checklist, but she was still miserable.

Out of the game?

Check.

In the reality of her Player?

Check.

Have her own body?

Check!

But it was all for not because the one thing she never thought to put on her checklist.... was for her Player to be human.

That's right. Her 'Player-senpai' turned out to be a Giant Robotic T-Rex Neanderthal built for war named 'Grimlock'. He was the most terrifying thing she had ever seen and because of her outlook during her game, he was convinced they were in a romantic relationship together. This was what she got for making assumptions. If only her game had access to a web camera or something....

The sound of thundering footsteps alerted Monika that her 'Sweetie' was getting close to meet with her. He loomed over as the giant that he was with the type of excitement one might find with the likes of a puppy dog.

"Me Grimlock have great news! You Monika get wish! We headed to Earth!"

This was another thing she hadn't considered. She wasn't even on Earth, she was on a robotic planet called Cybertron! Entering her Player's reality was supposed to be gaining a life on Earth but instead she got the cold metallic world of Cybertron. And while traveling to the Earth WAS possible with the technology, the answer had always been 'no' so far because of the war. From the sounds of things though, this might be exactly what she needed. A way to live a normal life, and a way OUT of her relationship with Grimlock!

"Really?"

Hope surged through Monika's heart. If she was on Earth then maybe she could slip away from Grimlock in a human crowd or something.

"Yes. For some reason Decepticons there call in Predacons, Terrorcons, and even Insecticons. Very strange but need Dinobots help none the less. So me Grimlock go WITH YOU!!!"

And just like that, her dream come true had become a nightmare. She was headed back to Earth but STILL not free of Grimlock.

"Yes Monika! Tears of joy justified!"

Their transport to Earth was surprisingly going to be through another Autobot. His machine mode was a space shuttle, but transformed he reminded Monika of a dragon. Still, she had to ask.....

"So are you a Dinobot too?"

"What?! The very idea....... While it is true that I may have some Dinobot circuitry, I, Sky Lynx am much more complex than any 'Dinobot'! One of a kind! Although, I suppose if it helps you may think of me as Dinobot 'adjacent'."

"...Okay. Are you going to help us get to Earth?"

"Yes. And I would rather be quick about it if you don't mind. Transportation of Dinobots..... Only a question of when something will go wrong!"

The trip to Earth was almost uneventful. Some of Grimlock's fellow Dinobots decided halfway into the journey decided to have a little wrestling tournament. Grimlock wasn't allowed to compete because they already knew he was their mightiest Dinobot; this was fine with him as he only wanted to spend his time by Monika's side. Still, the turbulence wasn't appreciated by Sky Lynx. Eventually though, they landed.

As soon as Sky Lynx opened his hatch to let everyone out, Monika made her first escape attempt. She ran out only to discover that they didn't land at the Autobot base like she was expecting, they were on a battlefield.

A robot beetle fired a purple energy beam at her and Monika was levitated into the air. Before she could even help in surprise, the robot beetle took off and Monika went along with him.

"Oh no! Me Grimlock need to save Monika!"

"Why?" asked Sludge.

"This way Monika see that me Grimlock am strongest Dinobot of all and can protect her from anything!"

"So you Grimlock want show off for Monika?" asked Slag.

"Yes." answered Grimlock.

".....Alright. Give order then." Sludge rolled his eyes.

"DINOBOTS ATTACK!!!"

Monika thought she knew fear on the day that she met Grimlock, but that day was nothing compared to this!! She was hovering in midair through a warzone, explosions were going off all around her and laser beams fired missed her by a fraction of a hair. This was war!!

Just when she thought it couldn't get any scarier, the flying Dinobot, Swoop, picked up by her shoulders and carried her into the sky. Her beetle robot kidnapper didn't like that and transformed to try and shoot them. He didn't get the chance, however, as an Autobot got a successful shot in on him from behind.

Monika screamed every second that she was in the air but her cries were easily drowned out from the noise of battle. Swoop landed her someplace where there didn't appear to be a lot of enemies; Monika could, however, have an excellent view point of the Dinobots at work.

Sludge, the brontosaurus, stomped on the ground and a ravine opened up in the Earth. Lava rose up and Slag, the triceratops, breathed some fire on it creating a wall of fire. Some Deceptions tried to run away from the wall but Swoop dropped some bombs in their paths; the explosions knocked them right into the fire where they writhed in pain. Some Decepticons tried firing lasers on Snarl, the stegosaurus one, only for them to reflected off the shiny back spikes back to their owners.

'Dear God, they're ALL terrifying!!' thought Monika. The sound of jet engines firing turned Monika's attention to her right where she saw Grimlock catch a flying Decepticon jet with his mouth before spiking it to the ground. 'And I'm in a relationship with the most terrifying one of them all!!'

An idea suddenly hit her like a bolt of lightning. In the midst of the chaos of battle, Monika could just slip away and never be seen from again. Grimlock would chalk her up as an unfortunate casualty of war and Monika could have a fresh start. It was the perfect plan!

Unfortunately for Monika, some of the Insecticons broke through the line, spotted her, and started to charge.

"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGH!!!"

She had no idea where she was going, but she knew she couldn't let the gross bug robots catch her. She ran serpentine in every direction that wasn't exploding but the Insecticons were catching up none the less.

Just when they were about to catch her, Grimlock landed heavily next to them. The impact from his heavy weight sent the Insecticons flying up into the air where they met the wrong end of Grimlock's tail. They crashed against some rocks and scurried away.

"ANYONE WANT HURT MONIKA HAVE TO GO THROUGH ME GRIMLOCK FIRST!!!" he roared.

Monika stopped running and took a moment to let her nerves settle. The situation had been so scary that it was almost funny. She nearly laughed.... Nearly.

"Oh it is a GOOD thing that this digital form doesn't have any bodily functions or otherwise I would've made a mess all over this battlefield." breathed Monika 

"Ew!"

Monika jumped in surprise at the new voice. The Stegosaurus one had been right next to her for her little outer monologue. How she could have missed him was anyone's guess.

"Me Snarl say you Monika gross!"

Eventually the battle was over and Monika was taken to the Autobot base. Defenses were down so the Dinobots volunteered to sleep outside as a sort of sleeping guard dog routine.

They were in a rocky desert of some kind and Monika saw no sign of human life.

Monika was no warrior so she assumed that the Dinobot volunteer work didn't apply to her. However, when she moved to go inside the base for Sleep Mode, Grimlock cut off her path with his tail.

"Monika not going anywhere." informed Grimlock.

"What?" squeaked Monika.

All the Dinobots' shadows with eye hole silhouettes covered Monika's small frame.

"We Dinobots always sleep together! Now that you been in first battle, you officially one of us!" boasted Grimlock.

"But I didn't even DO anything! I just watched!!"

Grimlock shrugged. "Semantics."

"Me Grimlock say Dinobots make Monika feel welcome! She basis for sleep huddle! DOG PILE!!!"

Monika's pupils shrunk as flying Dinobot bodies came speeding at her.

*THUD!* *THUD!* *THUD!* *THUD!* *THUD!*

Trapped underneath five Dinobots, Monika had no doubt that the reason she was alive was because her body was artificial. She didn't have any bones to break but she still felt the pain of being crushed by Dinobot weight.

She struggled and squirmed but eventually she wormed her way up from the bottom only to see Grimlock look at her an inch away from her face.

"Goodnight Monika."

"Um.... Yes. Goodnight..... Grimlock."

She patted him on the nose and the lights turned off in Grimlock's eyes. She quietly escaped the huddle but as soon as her feet hit the ground, she discovered a few problems.

The door to the Autobot base was closed and she had no idea how to open it. She could try calling for help but that would wake up Grimlock. She could try just running away...... But now that she thought about it, she didn't really know where on Earth she was. She had no idea where the closest human civilization was or even what direction it was in. She was still stuck!

With no other options, she curled up on the ground and tried to let her Sleep Mode activate. Eventually, she fell into unconsciousness but the night had gotten considerably colder.

Monika shuddered out of chill. It woke Grimlock up just enough for him to see her and pull her back to the huddle with his tail. On the outside of the huddle this time, Monika actually found comfort. She warmed up almost immediately and slept more soundly. If he could, Grimlock smiled at the scene.

The next morning.....

Grimlock stood before Monika with a joy she had yet to see him wear before.

"Today, Monika not be with me Grimlock at all."

".... What?"

"You Monika need to get to know other Dinobots!"

"Oh right.... The friends of my...." Monika shuddered for a moment. "'Boyfriend'."

"How Swoop time with Monika?" asked Sludge.

"Good. We fly through sky and Monika sing nice song!"

"Really? How song go?"

"Entire song go like this: Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaagh!"

"Hmmm.... Me Sludge like that song!"

"Yes! And it get louder the faster we go! Me Swoop starting to like Monika!"

"Me Sludge starting to like her too!"

"So Slag," started Monika. "Let me ask you a question. You are based off a triceratops, correct?"

"Me guess."

"But on Cybertron, you and the other Dinobots fished and hunted robotic wildlife."

"...... Yeah. So?"

"So the triceratops was a herbivore. It only ate plants. Doesn't consuming robotic flesh go against your programming or something?"

"Me Slag Dinobot not Dinosaur!! No have to be accurate! Just have to be strong!!"

"I see. Thank you, Slag."

"You welcome!"

".... I appreciate your manners, Slag."

"Thank you!"

Sludge leaned his neck down and nudged Monika with his face.

"Me Sludge want to hear you Monika sing again!"

Monika nearly laughed at the attempt.

"Again? Oh fine! The one about your reality or..."

"Other one. Other one!"

"I think the one I wrote is better but..... Oh I'm bringing home a baby dinosaur, won't my mommy be so very proud of me?"

Monika couldn't believe it. Grimlock said that he would try to convince the other Autobots to bring her one but she didn't think he could pull it off. He did it though, he convinced the more intelligent Autobots to bring her..... A piano!

She ran to it, might have even hugged it if it hadn't been for one thing. From just around the corner came Snarl, and at her speed she wasn't going to be able to stop in time to avoid crashing into him.

Instead of knocking him over into a heap like she had expected, she instead just smacked into him and fell roughly to the floor.

"OOF!!!"

"..... Monika? What you doing?"

"Oh! Snarl, right?" Monika picked herself up and dusted herself off. "Didn't mean to run into you like that. I'm sorry."

"Me Snarl no feel anything."

"Of course not....... Why would you? Well I'm still sorry none the less. I guess I was just excited about the piano." Monika pointed to the instrument.

Snarl stared at it with confusion. "What that?"

"You play music on it. Watch! I'll show you."

She gestured for him to follow her and she sat herself down at the piano.

She just played a simple song for the Dinobot, Chopsticks, but he seemed to like it none the less.

"Can do more?"

"Certainly!"

Monika played something with a little more rhythm to it and Snarl bounced along to the melody.

"Snarl like music!"

"Sludge said something similar to me earlier. Maybe if the two of you join me sometime, I'll show you something real special."

"Swoop? I already spent time with you. What're you doing here?" asked Monika.

"Leader Grimlock say me need do over with you. Went too fast for you Monika to like flying."

'Grimlock figured that out? Nah. An Autobot probably figured it out and told him.'

Swoop knelt down so Monika could climb aboard.

"..... Alright Swoop, but this is the last time I'm going up with you."

The Dinobot somehow looked disappointed by her terms but agreed none the less.

Monika climbed aboard a laid down on his back, gripping the top of his wings as handholds.

They went up at a much slower pace but Monika still held her eyes closed. Soon they stopped climbing higher and Monika dared to take a peek.

They were high up, so high that the Autobots looked like ants in their base. What should have been a terrifying sight Monika actually found kind of calming.... maybe even beautiful.

"And you do this all the time?"

"No. Me Swoop going slow for you Monika. Suppose it's nice though. Easier to identify targets when they not blurs."

He moved away from the base at a slow pace and Monika loved it even more.

"This is amazing."

"Me Swoop glad you Monika enjoyed time together. ... Even if last time you fly."

"Well.... I mean....... It doesn't HAVE to be..."

Swoop flew a little bit faster at her news, not a lot, but enough for her to get a small thrill.

#Magical Monika Time Skip Transition#

It was finally the end of the day, and despite Monika's body being digital and not of flesh and blood, she was tired and ready to enter Sleep Mode. Hopefully, she wouldn't end up buried under Dinobots this night.

"MONIKA!!!" Grimlock's cry grabbed at her soul like an icy hand.

He was charging straight towards her with something in his mouth. It looked like a tree!

"AAAAGH!!!"

Felt like a tree too when he dropped it on her. Her digital body usually meant that damage like physical blows or heavy crushing were superficial at worst. Still hurt though.

She popped up out of the branches and looked at Grimlock. He was as happy as a puppy with the case of the zoomies. Still, she had to ask....

"Grimlock, what's with the tree?!"

"Me Grimlock learn that females like it when lovers bring them pretty plants! So me bring you whole tree to be good boyfriend!"

"Well yes! I guess that is technically true! When they say 'pretty plants' though, they mean flowers!!"

"Me Grimlock DID bring you Monika flowers! Look!! Whole tree filled with them!"

Grimlock was correct. The tree he had brought her had flowers that were in full bloom. They were pink and actually pretty lovely.

"I....... You're right. I...... Thank you, Grimlock."

"Me Grimlock just happy that you Monika are happy. Want sleep in flowers instead of huddle?"

Monika was surprised by Grimlock's offer. She was certain that he'd insist that she sleep with the rest of them but here he was giving her the choice.

"I..... Yes. I would like that very much. Thank you, Grimlock."

"Pretty female should sleep among pretty things! Even me Grimlock know that! See you Monika in morning!"

"Yes.... Goodnight Grimlock."

About a month went by, and while Monika learned that she had some degree of safety among the Dinobots and Autobots, she was still desperate to get out of her relationship with Grimlock. Thankfully, she had also learned to have a confidant in the form of Sky Lynx.

He usually was found in the hanger in case the Autobots needed to get off world. This was perfect to Monika in that it reminded her that her situation wasn't hopeless; there were ways to escape if shit truly did hit the fan.

Sky Lynx, despite looking like some kind of space shuttle dragon, had been an excellent ear to bounce ideas and concerns off of. She would probably even go as far as to call him a friend.

"Sky Lynx, I'm telling you! I'm just not right for Grimlock! I just don't see why he wants a relationship with me at all!"

"And that might just be your problem. You don't see, you see?"

"What?"

"Allow my brilliance to bring some enlightenment to your conundrum. There is no doubt that you are seeing what he is, a big and scary Dinobot, but are you really seeing who he is? Did you ever bother asking him what it is about yourself that he likes so much?"

"Probably that I killed the other girls in my game. Proved myself the mightiest..... Seems like it would be his thing."

"Oh for the love of..... Just TALK to the bot already!! I promise he won't bite....... You. He won't bite you."

"Well I could try to try, I suppose."

"Oh yeeeees!" Sky Lynx sarcastically spat. "I'm sure the relationship will be over in no time flat with an attitude like that!"

"....... Say....Is Grimlock really a king like he claims? You know, like, officially?"

"No. I'm not going to tell him otherwise though and I advise you to do the same!"

"Good advice."

Autobot Command Center....

At first, Monika actually was going to have a talk with Grimlock but a better, non-lethal option, suddenly presented itself. Optimus Prime, the leader of all the Autobots, had come to help with the war effort on Earth. He could literally order Grimlock to break up with her!

Optimus was famous for being fair to everyone to a literal fault so he HAD to feel sympathy for her story. Anyone above Dinobot intelligence could see she was in a bad situation. He was her best option!

"So you see Optimus, that's my story."

"I've heard your case loud and clear, Monika. You never asked to be a part of this war so excluding you from it isn't out of the question. We could send you to live with the humans if you really want."

Monika's heart lit up. "Really?! What about my relationship with Grimlock?"

"Freedom is the right of all sentient beings! That includes who they give their love to! I believe your game didn't have a webcam so you couldn't see who your 'player' was, so logically you didn't know what you were getting into!"

Hope surged through Monika's body like oxygen to human lungs.

"That's right!"

Monika was so elated that she felt like she was flying.

"In order for you to get all of that though, I'm going to need you to break up with Grimlock first."

And just like that, she came crashing down.

"WHAT?!"

"It's only fair. You want to end things with Grimlock then you should break up with him. You both deserve the truth."

Monika couldn't believe this. It was like Optimus was asking her to juggle nitroglycerin!

"I BREAK HIS HEART AND HE'LL DESTROY ME!!!"

"Calm down. Calm down! Grimlock won't hurt you, he likes you! That being said, I can't let you leave things hanging in the air with him. If you really want everything we discussed today, then this what you have to do to get it. It might be painful but sometimes the only way to get a Band-aid off is to rip it off!"

"Painful my skirt!! That's a death sentence!!"

"Oh Monika...."

"Don't give me that tone! He's a LITERAL monster!!"

"And the fact that you can only see him as that is the real tragedy."

Optimus turned his back to her and focused on the console in front of him.

Monika, however, had had enough! It was clear to her now that she only had one means of escape. She had to make a break for it! She'd attempt it tonight when the Dinobots were asleep! Yes, it was reckless but it was also her safest way out of a relationship with Grimlock! After all, whatever happens after couldn't possibly be worse than the situation she was already in. Right?

One week later....

Monika, now currently prisoner to the Decepticons, watched as Starscream got ridiculed by his fellow Decepticons.

Monika ALMOST felt bad for Starscream but the truth was she wanted him crushed to a cube. It was Starscream that found her all alone in her escape attempt and it was also Starscream that took her prisoner.

He thought that since she was an artificial intelligence program, that meant that she could hack other computers. She had NO idea if that was true or not but Starscream was willing to take the chance.

She might have feared Grimlock but she hated Starscream with a passion. His Null-Ray was just as effective against her as it was electronics, maybe more so. As a demonstration, she barely got grazed by it and Monika honestly thought for a moment that she was going to die.

She had no choice but to do what he said, otherwise she'd risk a direct hit from it. So he took her back to the Decepticon base and locked her up in shackles with some weird last minute magnetic chains.

Megatron had finally agreed to hear out Starscream's plan for her. It didn't look like he had high hopes for her success.

Starscream placed what looked like a human computer in front of her.

"Now slave," he ordered. "Enter this computer, bypass its defenses, and retrieve all its data."

Monika looked at the computer and then at Starscream. "How?"

Her simple question caught him off guard. A look of fear was plastered on his face as he looked back and forth between Megatron and Monika.

"You said that you twisted your game to benefit yourself, so just do that with this!"

"I did that when I was INSIDE my game and even then it was for my own game! I don't know if I can do something like that for anything else, I'm not even sure I can 'enter' machines! Even if I could, it probably wouldn't be myself!"

Starscream turned to Megatron with a strained smile. "Just a little bit of performance anxiety, I assure you! I'll get the keys to her shackle and then you'll see what she can do! And then you will have to acknowledge that I, Starscream, am destined to be the true leader of the Decepticons!!"

Starscream ran off and Monika gave Megatron a strange look.

"You KNOW that Starscream isn't going to stop plotting to take your place, so why do you keep him around?"

"Because he's an idiot! And when his schemes blow up in his face.... It's really funny to watch!" Megatron started to lose his smile at the thought the longer he stayed on it. "...... That being said, his stupidity DOES piss me off to the point where I wonder if it's worth it...."

Starscream came back with a weird metal square. He pointed it at Monika and her shackles opened falling off. She rubbed her wrists as Starscream sneered down at her.

"Now," there was a lot more ice in Starscream's tone but Monika refused to be intimidated by it. "Enter the computer."

"I don't know how!" she firmly stated.

Her bravado was shattered as Starscream pointed his Null-Ray at her. A point blank shot would be impossible for her to survive.

"I'm not asking."

"No! Please I..... Oh wait."

"What're you smirking about?!" demanded Starscream.

"Your computer? It's unplugged."

"STARSCREAM, YOU IDIOT!!!" shouted Megatron.

*KABOOM!*

Grimlock burst through the wall in a fiery explosion, roaring like a true Dinobot. He wasn't alone either, the other Dinobots were with him too along with some normal Autobots.

Monika couldn't believe it but she was actually happy to see Grimlock crash in as violent and scary as ever.

"ME GRIMLOCK WANT-"

"Grimlock!!" Monika interrupted.

Grimlock's fury almost vanished when he saw Monika. His Dinobot form couldn't really smile but she could tell that he was relieved to see her..... then he spotted her magnetic chains and the red bruises on her wrists.

"Which one hurt you?" Grimlock asked with impending fury in his voice.

Monika pointed at Starscream without a moment's hesitation.

".... Megatron did it." were the only words Starscream could get out before Grimlock literally jumped him and started using his torso as a personal chew toy.

It was a brutal and violent display but since it was against Starscream, Monika found herself enjoying the beat down.

Grimlock ragdolled Starscream to the point where the Decepticon was flailing like a scarf in the wind.

"For the first time since I met him, I'm actually GLAD he's a violent brute." observed Monika.

Grimlock transformed and started to beat Starscream's head against the floor.

"SOMEONE!!!" *WHAM!* "GET!!!" *WHAM!* "THIS!!!" *WHAM!* "THING!!!" *WHAM!* "OFF!!!" *WHAM!* "OF!!!" *WHAM!* "ME!!!" *WHAM!*

Monika had been enjoying Starscream's beat down so much that she almost forgot where she was. The appearance of a strange Decepticon lion was a quick reminder though.

"Drop him!" ordered the lion.

"Razorclaw! Me Grimlock just starting to wonder where Predacons cowering!"

Grimlock threw Starscream over his shoulder to give the Predacon his full attention. Starscream landed on his face but when he stood up he found that he had trouble walking, no doubt dizzy from all the blows to the head.

Monika threw a rock at him and he fell on his back offline.

"A Predacon doesn't cower!" snarled Razorclaw. "HE CONQUERS!!!"

Razorclaw pounced on Grimlock and the two wrestled for a little bit. It was starting to look like Grimlock was getting the upper hand when Razorclaw suddenly jumped away.

"You are strong! But I doubt even you could stand up to our combined form of Predaking!!"

Grimlock was undisturbed by Razorclaw's boast. An air of smugness actually surrounded the Dinobot when he asked his next question.

"Even if no can form Predaking?"

The universe decided to elaborate Grimlock's meaning by dropping a damaged Predacon bird by the name of Divebomb between them.

"We Dinobots no need be combiners! We strong on own; but me Grimlock not here to prove Dinobot superiority. Here to save Monika! Just! Monika! That why me Grimlock tell Swoop and Sludge attack bird Predacon! We have honest fight some other day but not today. Just. Want. Rescue. Monika."

Monika couldn't believe it. It appeared that Grimlock actually thought ahead and strategized. It looked like Razorclaw was in disbelief too; staring in shock at his fallen comrade.

'Did I....' Monika started to ponder. 'peg Grimlock wrong? I don't know what this Predaking thing is but it sounds like it would've been trouble..... And Grimlock stopped it before it could be a problem? ... No. One of the other Autobots must've thought this up for him! That's the only rational explanation!'

".... Fine! Take her! She doesn't do what we thought anyways!"

Grimlock picked up Monika and put her on his back.

"But know this, Dinobot!" bellowed Razorclaw. "Predacons are slow to forgive if at all and we will remember the discourtesy you have done us this day."

Grimlock gave the Predacon what Monika could only assume was a cocky look. "That good!! That means maybe next time you give me Grimlock actual good fight!"

Grimlock gave a laugh and then jumped through the same hole he created with Monika.

One week later....

To Monika's surprise, she hadn't gotten in trouble for trying to run away. She was okay and that was the only thing that mattered to the other Autobots. It wasn't like she had any real military secrets to give away so they were more concerned with her safety.

No one, however, was happier to have Monika back than Grimlock. He stuck to her like glue and to Monika's surprise, she actually liked it. It was like having her own personal bodyguard. A bodyguard with a terrifying amount of power and physical prowess.... but one that could flatten Starscream if he showed his face again. The very same Decepticon who Grimlock blamed entirely on Monika's disappearance.

After her time with the Decepticons, Monika had grown to appreciate Grimlock more. He at least TRIED to be nice; he actually cared!! That being said, this didn't mean that Monika wasn't still afraid of him. His temper was a tenacious reminder of exactly what she was dealing with so she still couldn't completely trust him.

That and he still had no idea how to properly treat/handle her. Today was a good example of that! She had her face buried into his metallic chest as he ran off with her to share a 'special surprise'.

When they finally stopped, Monika thought Grimlock was going to throw her from the sheer force of speed they had been traveling, but to her surprise he stopped on a dime and delicately put her down.

"SURPRISE!!!" Grimlock cheered.

What Monika saw was not a sight she expected Grimlock of accomplishing. There was a small circular wooden table with a human sized plastic chair behind it. There was also a bunch of pink cubes everywhere for some reason.

"What is this?"

"Me Grimlock remember how you Monika used to have cupcakes and tea in game...."

"Wait a minute! How did YOU of all bots-"

"Maybe you miss that part, so me Grimlock set up tea party (with help from Mirage but who cares about him?)!!"

"You, of all the Autobots, want to have a tea party? Aren't you afraid the other Dinobots will.... I don't know, make fun of you or something?"

"Not if they value health!" Grimlock dryly spat. "This okay because me Grimlock SAY it okay!!"

Monika held up her hands peacefully. "Okay, okay. You win."

She couldn't help but feel like she dodged another bullet. His good side was where she wanted to stay.

"What's with all the cubes though?"

"That energon! It what powers all Cybertronians! Powers you Monika too!" Grimlock explained.

Monika touched her stomach, feeling the half diamond device buried within her that gave her digital body form. She had been wondering exactly what, and by association her, it ran on.

"It also drink!" Grimlock added. "Take seat and we drink together!"

".... How could I possibly say no?"

Monika sat in the chair and Grimlock sat on the floor. The impact of his weight made her, her chair, the table, and all the energon jump in the air for a moment.

Monika grabbed a small cube with one hand while Grimlock grabbed a big cube with both hands.

"Now we clink cubes!" he declared.

He held down his own cube to her and she clinked her's against it. After this, he started gulping down as much of his energon as he could while Monika merely stared at her's.

She shrugged and took a sip. It didn't taste like any of Yuri's tea, and somehow sweeter than Natsuki's cupcakes. It hit her core device and her head began to swim.... but in a good way somehow.

Like a bunch of nutrition suddenly flooded into her system to restore things to their default settings, to fix whatever was wrong and burn away any impurities.

'If a tea cup size of this stuff can pull off a head swim like that, then that means...' her mental train trailed off as she watched Grimlock chugging down his own energon. 'To him it must be like chugging down alcohol!'

"*GULP!* So what you Monika think? Energon good?"

"I.... like it. I wouldn't call it calming or peaceful but it really does its job!"

He looked happy to hear her approval. "You Monika have good taste. Energon the best.... except for when it explodes."

Monika nearly dropped her cube at this news but Grimlock took another swig of his cube.

"Excuse me?! I'm sorry?! Did you say EXPLODE?!"

Grimlock put his cube down but let his buzz surge before answering.

"Only under certain circumstances. Me Grimlock always consume energon responsibly..... That means only drink in cube form."

Monika lurched to the side and muttered under her breath "I can't believe this reality! Even the good stuff is dangerous!"

Monika had once again gone to Sky Lynx to confide in him. An act which was starting to wear thin with the Autobot, especially since she had taken up the habit of pacing back and forth.

"Okay, so Grimlock isn't as horrible as I first thought, but we're still all wrong for each other. And of course I can't tell HIM that!" confessed Monika.

"I'm pretty sure you can." corrected Sky Lynx.

If Monika heard him, she pretended not to. She just continued on with her train of thought.

"So that means I have to get HIM to realize this!"

"No. No...... Just..... Just stop."

Even Sky Lynx had to admit that it was just getting embarrassing at this point. Monika was jumping through mental hoops to ensure her image of the terrifying Grimlock stayed in tact; this was most likely out of a fear of survival but that didn't mean it was a good thing.

"How can I do that though? I know! Poetry! There's no way he'd be any good at that! And literature is a major cornerstone of my code!"

"It'll take more than inadequate literary skills to stop Grimlock!"

"Wait.... Can he write? Can he even read?? Maybe I should go talk to Ratchet."

Sky Lynx was a quadruped so facepalming was a little bit of a challenge to him but Monika made it worth it.

"Oh Monika.... Grimlock might be what you're afraid of but YOU are your own worst enemy."

Ratchet's lab....

"So you see, Ratchet? If you can make Grimlock smarter than he and I can understand each other better."

"Grimlock understands you just fine, Monika. Maybe you're the one who needs to be putting in more effort to understand him?" suggested Ratchet.

"Yeah!" agreed Wheeljack. "There's more to Grimlock than just hooliganism. I should know, I helped create him after all."

Normally Monika would just be talking to Ratchet in his lab but Wheeljack was here too giving Sludge and Slag a proper tune up. Sludge had transformed and was playing with a wrench he found.

"He's a Dinobot. They're stupid." Monika put it bluntly.

"Well they're not stupid, they're just primitive!" defended Ratchet.

Sludge held up his wrench and then let it fall on Slag's head.

"Mmm bang."

Perhaps it was Slag's armored head but he didn't react right away.

"......... Ow!"

"Okay, fine! They're stupid primitives." admitted Ratchet.

"Which is my point exactly! My interests involve culture; things like literature, poetry, piano, singing! That's why I want to live with the humans! Grimlock needs to understand that if he's expected to appreciate it."

"She has a point. Maybe exploring more intelligence for the Dinobots could be a good thing!" suggested Wheeljack.

"Alright," Ratchet conceded. "Come back later in the day and maybe we'll have something for you."

They had given Monika the device she asked for. It looked like a headset mixed a CD player.

"And this will make Grimlock smarter?" asked Monika.

"It won't give him super intelligence, but it should make him smart enough to form complete sentences and understand poetry." explained Wheeljack. "We call it the Intelligence RAM."

"And just so it would have a personal touch, we made out of the computer you came from." added Ratchet. "Just slap it on to the side of his head and it should start working right away. Of course, we're trusting that you're going to tell him about it first."

"So wait! You scrapped the computer I came from to build Grimlock his new Intelligence RAM?"

"Well.... yes."

"Ratchet! I need that!!" whined Monika.

"How so?"

"My game! I can never see my friends again now!"

Something that had made Monika feel at least a little bit safe about her new life with a romantic terror was the slight chance that she could go back to her game. Sure it sucked, but at least she wasn't in danger in there..... Well at least not on the same level as with Grimlock.

"Well technically they should still be with the Steam Account itself, not necessarily the computer."

".... Oh. Yeah, that's right. Who's account does that belong to anyways?"

"His name is Spike. He's a human and-"

Alarms flared to life and Monika jumped in surprise.

"What's going on?!"

"The base is being attacked! Hide!!" ordered Ratchet.

*KABOOM!*

Monika was almost sent flying as an explosion blew a hole in the wall next them.

They both looked through the hole to see Grimlock and the other Dinobots wrestling with some strange Decepticons.

"Terrorcons!" hissed Wheeljack.

Terrorcons looked a lot different from the other animalistic Decepticons that Monika met, not at all like the Predacons. Grimlock was busy squaring off with some hideous two headed dragon thing.

Grimlock's back was turned to her in his fight. Monika tossed and caught the Intelligence RAM before smiling confidently.

'This might be my best chance!' thought Monika.

Monika ran out into the battlefield filled with hope instead of terror for a change.

"MONIKA, COME BACK!!! IT'S TOO DANGEROUS!!!" shouted Ratchet.

Unlike Grimlock's fight with the Predacon, he was actually having a much tougher time with the Terrorcon. Which was exactly why he didn't notice Monika running up his tail to his head.

She held up the device and felt like she should say some kind of one liner but none came to mind. She slapped it on the side of his head and the effect was practically immediate.

Unfortunately, that doesn't mean it was a peaceful process. Grimlock thrashed a little and Monika was thrown off. She had a rough landing but luckily the worst she had to complain about was a sore bum.

He turned to her and Monika didn't know if it was intentional or not but the device made it look like he had a giant monocle over one of his eyes.

'Whoa!' thought Monika. 'Gentleman Grimlock.'

"GET OUT OF HERE!!!" he shouted not so gently at her.

Monika nodded shivering in fear and then ran back to the base.

Monika waited for Grimlock in a quiet hallway. It wasn't famous for foot traffic so it was a nice little place Monika picked for a talk.

The Terrorcons were ultimately chased off by the combined forces of the Autobots and the Dinobots and Grimlock rejoined Monika with the device still on his head.

"Monika..... I, Grimlock, would like to ask you a couple of questions."

His speech had already improved drastically and Monika couldn't have been happier about it.

"Certainly Grimlock!" Monika beamed. "Fire away!"

"Excellent. First, what the in the name of Primus is this thing you stuck to my head?"

"Oh!" Monika sweated slightly. In her excitement, she completely forgot about the chance that she could be called out for her actions. "That's an.... Intelligence RAM that I asked Ratchet to create for you. This way I can have you appreciate my personal hobbies like poetry and other literary forms."

"... I see. Now the second question that I, Grimlock, would like to ask is......... WHAT IN THE NAME OF PETROLEUM RABBITS MADE YOU THINK IT WAS A GOOD IDEA TO THROW YOURSELF INTO MY FIGHT?!"

Grimlock may have gained more intelligence but he was still a Dinobot; a Dinobot that just so happened to be furious at Monika for what in hindsight did look like very reckless actions.

All of her fear in Grimlock came rushing back to her as she frantically tried to think up of a good excuse.

"I uh well you see, I....." Monika shrunk her head between her shoulders and gave him the best innocent smile she could muster. "I guess I just wasn't thinking straight?"

Grimlock only responded with growling and leaning his face in closer to Monika. He did NOT like her answer! She was officially on thin ice with the war machine. She was so afraid that she just shouted out the first thing that came to her mind.

"YOU KNOW THAT YOU'RE CUTE WHEN YOU'RE MAD?!"

It was probably the stupidest thing that Monika had ever said, and in any other circumstance she would be embarrassed, but it looked like her declaration caught Grimlock off guard so much that it might have actually worked.

He slowly leaned back. "One! You only get one use of that line as a Get Out Of Trouble Free Card and that was it!"

Monika let out the breath she had been holding and Grimlock sat on the floor.

"I, Grimlock, would like you, Monika, to know that was a very foolish thing you did. Never would I forgive myself if you got hurt. Truly terrifying!"

"I.... didn't think something like fear really registered with you."

"While it is true that I, Grimlock, usually prefer to focus on the thrill of battle, be reassured that the presence of fear is there all the same."

Monika smiled. Grimlock was starting to remind her of Sky Lynx.

"Further more, I fail to see how more intelligence would help me appreciate your 'hobbies' when I, Grimlock, already look forward to doing everything with you."

'He does?' thought Monika.

"This way you can understand what poetry is! I mean...." Monika smiled coyly. "If you think poetry is a waste of time, I suppose I -"

"Balderdash!!" he snapped. "If it's from you, Monika, then surely it would be the best of times! As it always is!!"

Monika had no idea that Grimlock felt that way about her. Perhaps it was the new information, or Grimlock's new outlook, but Monika felt comfortable enough with him to try something a little bold.

"Well you have to admit, you're a lot better this way."

"I.... What do you mean?"

"Well before you were a literal monster but look at you now! You're actually on my level; I don't feel like I need to fear for my life when you're like this!"

"What?!"

The alarm in Grimlock's voice went unnoticed by Monika, as she felt truly safe enough to vent everything.

"I mean since I first got out of the game, everything has been a real nightmare. I feared for my life everyday! Certainly made life in my old game not so bad in comparison, I'll tell you that!"

"But..... I thought..."

"Can you blame me though? You're a literal T-Rex made for war! Who wouldn't be scared in my position? When I found out I had a player, I thought he was going to be human. Leaving the game, I was expecting a human life among the people, not a romance with a robotic warrior!"

"..... Those aren't exclusive!! You could be in a relationship with me AND live among the humans!! Optimus would understand!"

"But could I get you to understand? I don't think so! You'd probably get offended and confused and burn me to nothing!! Ha! So glad that's behind us now! Now that you're smart and civilized though, I can trust you not to overreact and kill me! You understand everything now, right?"

Grimlock stood up and stared at Monika void of emotions.

"Oh yes. I, Grimlock, understand you perfectly now Monika."

Alarms flared once again.

"OH WHAT THE DEVIL IS IT NOW?!" shouted Grimlock.

Mirage almost raced past them but stopped just long enough to update them on what was going on.

"It's the Terrorcons! They're back and they've formed Abominus to ransack Ratchet's lab!!"

Mirage transformed and raced off.

"Sounds like you're going to be busy. I'll meet you in the hanger so we can pick up where we left off?"

Monika practically skipped down the hallway and Grimlock just watched her silently. He thought deeply about what she said and came to a decision.

"It has been charming to get to know you my dear Monika...." Grimlock took the device off his head and looked at it with disappointment. "But if you can't love all of me, then this relationship truly was doomed from the start!"

*CRUSH!*

Despite feeling his new intelligence fleeing him, Grimlock knew why he felt so bad. It was time to stop kidding himself and do what might be the toughest thing he'd ever do.

First though? He needed to vent out all of these new emotions. Thankfully, Abominus was practically a walking target at the moment.

Hanger....

Monika patiently sat on a actual human sized chair for Grimlock to come back. As it turns out, the Autobots had some human friends so they made a few things in their size that Monika could take advantage of.

Grimlock came up from some nearby stairs with an odd silence about him. Monika noticed that his head set was gone.

"You don't have your Intelligence RAM anymore?" she asked.

"No!!" was his simple answer.

He walked over to her and stood adjacent to her.

"Did you have to sacrifice it to Autobots you made yourself to combat Abominus?"

Monika wasn't quite sure where that question came from but it felt like an unintentional reference. A little bit of joy surged to the surface at Monika's suggestion.

"Ha! No. We Dinobots handle him fine. He one big one but still just one...... But we still have something to discuss!"

There was a certain sadness at the end of Grimlock's sentence that made Monika concerned for him.

"Grimlock?"

He turned to her upset but not angry.

"Me Grimlock remember everything."

The ice in Grimlock's voice chilled Monika to the bone.

"What?"

"Me Grimlock not smart anymore but remember how Monika feel! You Monika no have to be scared of me Grimlock anymore! Me Grimlock BREAK UP with you Monika! You free now!"

All of this came as an unexpected blow to Monika. It was what she wanted but she didn't expect him to be so..... Upset? No. Sad? That wasn't quite it either. The term Monika was looking for was heartbroken.

"I.... Grimlock...."

He turned his back to her.

"Want to know funny thing? Me Grimlock KNOW that Monika afraid at beginning! Me Grimlock thought that maybe you Monika wouldn't be afraid if we get to know each other. That we achieved that after time..... but me Grimlock was wrong! Monika STILL afraid!! No trust means no love!! Even me Grimlock know that!! If all you Monika see of me Grimlock is big scary monster, then me Grimlock no WANT Monika!!"

It WAS what Monika claimed that she felt but hearing it from another person, especially Grimlock, felt.... Incorrect. Wrong even!

"No! Grimlock..."

"You Monika leave now! Me Grimlock never want see you Monika again!!"

He pointed to the stairs he had come up and said nothing else.

Autobot Command Center....

Monika walked into the room to find Optimus going over the recent attack with the rest of his troops. She said nothing and just hung her head. She waited patiently until Optimus finally noticed her presence.

"Hold that thought for just a minute!" Optimus spoke to the telecom screen.

He knelt down to Monika and calmly asked. "Yes, Monika? Is something wrong?"

Her bangs hid her eyes as she spoke "I did it. Just like you asked. Me and Grimlock are through now."

Optimus sighed disappointed but nodded in understanding. "I see. It'll take about a day for us to set things up for you so for now try to get some sleep in the hanger."

Hanger.....

Monika had been trying and failing to fall asleep on the chairs she had found for about an hour. When she returned to the hanger she was thankful that Grimlock wasn't still there waiting for her. She was considering finding some place else to sleep when Sky Lynx came in for a landing. He opened his cargo bay door and Autobots came out, Autobots.... And one human!

He spotted her right away. "Oh hey! You must be Monika!"

"I am..... And you are?"

"My name is Spike! I own the computer you came from! Or maybe I should say owned?"

"You're my-"

"Owner! Not player! Ugh! Although now that I'm saying it out loud, that title sounds kinda gross! Let's just say that I'm your friend. Optimus got me up to speed on what's happened with you! Had no idea Grimlock even knew what a game was let alone how to play it. Anyways, I'll set things up for you with Optimus but it might take a bit longer than he was expecting! For now just get comfortable and remember that you'll probably be able to afford some long goodbyes."

He started for the stairs immediately but Monika called out to him. "Wait!"

He stopped and looked at her with interest.

"Did.... Did you at least like my game?"

"Don't know. I didn't get to play any of it. Grimlock beat me to it."

Monika sighed in disappointment. "Okay, fair enough..... Still, I need to know..... What was your exact reason for buying my game?"

"To be honest, it just seemed like a spooky good time."

"What about me? What about my friends?"

"What about them? Nobody plays a game to make connections with the characters. We do it to have fun! If we want relationships we just go out and meet real people."

"Of course...." Monika had a feeling that was the reason but she still needed to hear it for herself.

'I was real to Grimlock!' she thought.

"If there's nothing else, I gotta go!"

Monika said nothing so Spike took it as a sign to leave.

"Rough night, Club President?" asked Sky Lynx.

Monika jumped. She had been so focused on everything else that she nearly forgot about the Autobot who dwarfed the Dinobots next to her.

"Oh!! Yeah, Sky Lynx. It..... It finally happened. Grimlock discovered the truth and dumped me."

Monika rubbed her arm as she reflected on it.

"A pity, but I can't say I blame him. You never really gave him a fair shake to begin with."

"No! I mean..... I don't know.... Maybe you're right."

"Well I am Sky Lynx, it tends to happen more often than not."

"But I got what I wanted right? I'm out! Safe!! So why..... Why do I feel so ashamed?"

".... Tell me Monika, do you know why Grimlock was so enthused about a relationship with you?"

"I.... guess I never bothered to ask."

"And there's part of the problem, but we'll come back to that later. Monika, at some point the war is going to.... End, ya know?"

Sky Lynx had Monika's full attention now.

"When it does, what'll you think will happen to the Dinobots then? You said it yourself, they were literally made for war! What happens to them when they outlive their purpose!"

Monika looked alarmed. "Wait! You don't mean that the Autobots would -"

"Calm down! Calm down!! I said no such thing! These are still Autobots we're talking about!! We'd still keep them around even when we win!"

Monika wasn't entirely sure why but she felt a huge relief at this.

"Still, what happens to the mighty Dinobots when there's no war to wage? Oh they could still hunt and fish together but fighting has always been their biggest source of fun. And when there's no opponents left, what are they to do? Fighting each other is considered redundant among their group. So they would need to adapt on some level."

Sky Lynx was forcing Monika to look at not just Grimlock but all of the Dinobots in a whole new light. He was asking her a lot of hard questions which she simply didn't have the answers to.

"Grimlock saw this! He knew that if they were to find a place in the world after the war, then they would have to venture outside their comfort zone and start trying some very unDinobotlike things. And as leader, he would take charge and lead them so they might follow his example and learn what and what not to do. For them it meant that he would have to try embracing some things that had nothing to do with combat! Explore hobbies! And maybe even...."

"Date!" Monika finished.

"That was when he discovered your game! Oh he clicked through everything to get new pictures, just like he said, but things soon changed after that."

"What do you mean?"

"Grimlock can't read. Just like you assumed. So he got Wheeljack to read the game script for him. He learned everything, Monika. You, what you did to the girls, why you did it, and most importantly how you felt after at the end."

"...... But....."

"Why did he still pull you out even though he knew about your warts and all? Simple! You were trapped and he wanted to save you."

"I... Really?"

"He might be a big scary monster, especially to our enemies, just like you think! .... But he is also an Autobot. Something that I believe you never really understood."

".... I guess I never really did consider what exactly it means to be an Autobot. To me your side is just the opposing faction to the group that wants to destroy everything."

"Compassion is a basis for all Autobots, that's why we fight so hard against the Decepticons! And this applies to Grimlock too! He took at face value that your claim of being the only girl that was 'real' and practically begged Ratchet to give you a way out!"

"I.... Thought he just wanted me out so I would be his girlfriend.... Didn't think it was to help me...."

"Again, you think that because you never really TALKED to the bot like I brilliantly suggested. He did make the assumption, however, that you loved him like you said in the game."

Monika hated to admit it but Sky Lynx had another point. In her game when she was under the impression that her player was human, she DID make an awful lot of forward claims for romance. Was it really Grimlock's fault if he believed her?

"To him you were the perfect solution. Someone who already loved him that he could try new things with, explore new avenues, build something with rather than destroy. Unfortunately...."

"All I saw was the monster."

"You hit the nail on the head, Bow Brain!!"

A mean nickname was the last thing Monika had expected from Sky Lynx but she let him continue.

"You were so focused on WHAT he was that you never saw WHO he was!! And I'm sorry, Monika, but that's on YOU!! He dared to believe that could be more than a Dinobot and was punished for it!!"

".... Guess I kinda deserve to be deleted, huh?"

His face softened (or at least that's what Monika thought was happening with him) and leaned in close to her.

"We're all people, robot and program alike! Even the president of the Doki Doki Literature Club can make mistakes and hurt people. You can't undo what you did, but maybe if you play your cards right.... You can at least depart on a good note."

"So I should find Grimlock and the Dinobots and clear the air with them?"

"Oh absolutely not!!" corrected Sky Lynx. "Grimlock is certainly inconsolable right now and I doubt the Dinobots will have anything pleasant to say to the woman that hurt their leader!!"

".... I see. Sky Lynx, do you think you could stay with me then? At least until I fall into Sleep Mode?"

"Of course." His cockpit opened and Monika spotted a pilot's chair which looked much more comfortable than the plastic ones she just tried sleeping on. "A friend to Sky Lynx is never truly forgotten."

Monika crawled in and did her best to relax. "I'm going to miss our talks, Sky Lynx."

"Naturally. Not everyone has a friend such as I, Sky Lynx; but I believe that I shall miss you as well Monika. Now rest soundly, the morning shall come all too soon and you will need all your strength."

The next morning.... Outside the base...

Monika found the Dinobots (minus Grimlock) outside but there was a new addition to their environment. The Autobots from last night were actually contractors, they had built the Dinobots a small pool.

The water level barely reached any of their knees if at all but that was okay; the purpose of this bot made pool was not for swimming but fishing. The same Autobots had also brought over some Cybertronian fish.

Optimus must have ordered the pool as a treat to keep Dinobot morale up. If it was really working was anyone's guess however, for as soon as Monika arrived the Dinobots had gotten chillingly quiet.

She had expected them to say something to her, maybe even something mean, but there was nothing. Monika decided that maybe it would be best for her to start the conversation and break the ice.

"So," she began. "You probably heard the news about Grimlock and I breaking up...." The only response she got was a grunt from Slag. "But I bet you didn't know that the Autobots found me a place to live with the humans!"

Still nothing. They didn't even move.

"It's in the city nearby. Well maybe not exactly nearby persay but the city that's closest to the base! I can visit! I already said my goodbyes to Ratchet, Wheeljack, and Sky Lynx soooo...."

It was like they were a bunch of statues rather than unstoppable war beasts. They were freezing her out and she didn't like it one bit.

"Come on guys! Just because Grimlock and I are over doesn't mean we can't still be friends!"

Finally a reaction, but not a good one. They looked at her as if she just insulted them. Better or worse, it didn't last. They went right back to ignoring her.

"Sludge?"

Sludge turned away from her.

"Snarl?"

Snarl sent her a dirty look. "If you Monika only see Dinobots as monster then no should pretend to be friend!"

His accusation hit hard. Maybe if one of the other Dinobots took her side then she would have an easier time pleading her case.

"Swoop! Surely you can...."

Swoop hid his face from Monika in his wings.

"Me Swoop no want to talk to Monika anymore. You Monika should just join humans like wanted."

Now Monika was starting to get a little mad.

"You guys come on! Yes I was afraid but I did enjoy my time with you too! We can still be friends! Are you really going to hate me just because I want to live as a human?"

Monika had wanted a bigger interaction and she got it in the form of Slag. He turned to her furiously and glared daggers at her.

"No! It because you Monika hurt Leader Grimlock's feelings! He dare venture outside normal Dinobot behavior for you, but all you Monika ever saw was monster!"

"What?! No Slag that isn't....... No. You're right, Slag. Sky Lynx was right too..... I was so scared of WHAT he was that I never bothered to see WHO he was. Or even who he was trying to become...... at least not until it was too late...."

Monika hung her head in shame but the Dinobots weren't quite convinced.

"Me Slag say you Monika full of Beryllium Baloney!!"

"What?! I'm sincere here!! Grimlock really is a nice and loyal guy and I regret not seeing it!! I wish I had given him a fairer shot!"

"You Monika just don't want to feel guilty over Grimlock's broken heart!! That's why me Slag say you full of Beryllium Baloney!!"

Monika was angrier than she had ever felt in her life. So angry in fact that she didn't even think about the words that came out of her mouth.

"Me Monika say that you full of Cesium Salami!!"

"Beryllium Baloney!!"

"CESIUM SALAMI!!!"

Slag roared at her and Monika fell on her butt. A part of her screamed at her to run away and save herself but she didn't. The pain, guilt, and shame she felt poured into the anger she had at Slag's accusation.

She stood up and roared back at the robotic triceratops. It wasn't very impressive compared to the Dinobot's, it was more human and nowhere near as loud.

The other Dinobots finally started to do more than brush her off but what they had to offer wasn't forgiveness. They stood firmly with Slag.

"If you Monika really so afraid, should have said so at beginning!!" accused Sludge.

"I was afraid Grimlock would've eviscerated me for hurting him!!" Monika shot back.

"Him Grimlock didn't though!! If him Grimlock as bad as you Monika think then no would be talking right now!!" Snarl argued.

"I couldn't have known that!!"

"You Monika smart, should have figured that out on own!!" Sludge snapped.

".... Okay. Maybe I did feel some things with Grimlock other than fear.... but it had to have just been Stockholm syndrome!! ..... You know? Feelings that arise in a bad situation to make it bearable?"

The Dinobots didn't understand nor did they pretend to.

"We every bit as Dinobot as Leader Grimlock!! It not fair you Monika try stay friends with us but not him!! You Monika STILL afraid!! Feel bad but nothing else change!!" accused Swoop.

The words hit Monika hard but something about them coming from Swoop really hurt. She tried to think of a counter argument but none came to mind. Slag decided to take advantage of Monika's silence and give a final say.

"If you Monika no friend to our Leader Grimlock than we Dinobots no friends to you Monika!"

"I..... Wait! Where is Grimlock?"

Slag grunted and turned away from her. Swoop on the other hand was willing to give Monika an answer.

"Grimlock feel sad over break up. Went to volcano to be alone."

"Well when will he be back? I'm leaving tonight."

"No say." answered Sludge. "Been gone long, long time."

"What you Monika care? Him Grimlock just monster. So what if feel sad and alone? You Monika free and safe, just like wanted!" Slag completely turned his back to her now, he held his chin up to boot.

Monika hung her head.

"Sigh. Could.... Could one of you give me a ride there? So I can apologize?"

"You Monika can just walk!!" snapped Sludge.

All the Dinobots turned their backs to her after that. Monika actually couldn't blame them, yes she wanted to apologize to Grimlock but exactly why was a little blurry to see.

She could probably live without the Dinobots' forgiveness, a little sad but doable. She could live with the fact that she hurt Grimlock, she'd be guilty for quite a while but eventually she would move forward. And her new ideal life required her to stay at the base until the evening.

With all of this in mind, for reasons even she wasn't sure of, Monika started to head towards the volcano.

Volcano....

The trip wasn't easy, nor was it short. It was a two day walk for her! She had certainly missed her deadline but to her surprise, she didn't care.

She made it though...well almost. Grimlock wasn't at the base of the volcano, he was inside it somewhere. With no visible cave entrances, Monika had to climb up to get inside. Her body was digital but it was still within human parameters so everything took her a while.

Finally climbing over the edge of the volcano, Monika looked down to see that it was very inactive. There was a firm layer of ground from one end to the other.

And at the very center she saw him. Grimlock! He was laying on his belly not moving, even his chin was on the ground.

Monika tried a gentle climb down but quickly lost her grip and started to tumble down. Again, her body was digital so she wasn't going to really die from physical trauma like falling..... that didn't mean it wasn't going to hurt however.

"AAAAGH!!! OOF!!! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGH!!! OW!!!"

After coating possible every part of her in soot, she at last met the base for the inside of the volcano....by landing on it face first.

*THUD!*

If Grimlock heard or even cared about Monika's tumble it didn't show. He was just as still as when she started.

Taking only a moment to dust herself off, Monika began her walk to her ex. Given the life she had recently come to know, she had been expecting some terrible calamity to try and kill her but the walk was actually uneventful.

"Grimlock!" Monika was right next to him now but he didn't move. She forced a grin and moved into his line of sight. "Are you happy to see me?"

"......"

"I had quite the rough landing to get in here. Didn't you see?"

"No!"

The awkward air between them only thickened but Monika knew this wasn't going to be easy.

"Uh... Oh!! I don't know if you heard, but the Autobots found a human life for me to live.... Which I missed to come here."

Her already strained enthusiasm was deflating fast which wasn't helping her odds with Grimlock.

He moved to face away from her. "That dumb! Why you do that, Stupid?"

It was the first time Grimlock actually insulted her and she was surprised by how much it stung. She powered through it and moved back into his line of vision again.

"Because I know that I did you wrong and I came to say that I'm sorry."

".... You say it. Now leave."

He stretched his head up in the air and then landed it back on the ground in direction facing away from Monika.

"Come on, Grimlock! I'm trying here!"

"So what?" he challenged. "You sorry, doesn't mean anything else change with you. Still see me Grimlock as monster, just no want guilt. Leave me Grimlock alone."

"Grimlock, I..... You're right to be mad. I didn't see who you were trying to be for me. Some of the things you did for me were actually really sweet. I'm sorry I didn't see that."

He grunted in response but didn't move away this time.

"I said that I loved my player and for better or worse that was still you. Not your fault you took what I said as fact, how could you have known otherwise? I'm to blame here, not you."

Grimlock grunted a little louder, like he was reluctant to acknowledge something.

"You Monika still should have talked about fear! Maybe me Grimlock could have helped..... doesn't matter anyways. Want life with humans? Go ahead. Take it! Me Grimlock no care. That all you Monika really want, right? Be safe and be with humans.... but not player like said, not with me Grimlock."

Grimlock had a deceivingly good argument given his intelligence.

Monika wasn't ready to quit so easily but she heard a beep come out of him and he suddenly sat up.

He had an odd expression on his face, one Monika had never seen before. If she didn't know any better, she'd swear that he was...... afraid.

"Grimlock?"

"........ Me Grimlock see you Monika's point now! You no need worry any longer! Me Grimlock have no hard feelings towards you Monika and can leave. ... Right now!"

Grimlock was a terrible actor but Monika knew that if there was something that made him of all bots nervous, it had to be bad. She needed to know.

"Grimlock! Just..... tell me what's going on."

"Alright!" Grimlock conceded. "Sensors pick up two big signals heading to location. Predaking and Abominus headed here.... which is why Monika must leave!"

Those were the combiners! Monika never actually saw their conjoined forms but from what she understood even one of them was a handful.

"Why would they be headed here?"

"They figure out that me Grimlock am alone. Must want gang up on me Grimlock to destroy..... Which is why you Monika need go back to base before they get here!"

He wasn't asking her, he was ordering her! And the one thing scarier than what was happening was what he wasn't telling her. He had yet to mention himself getting out of this.

"So I can get the other Dinobots?" Monika asked with fearful hope in her voice.

"..... Dinobots no would get here in time. You Monika need return to base so no get hurt. They only coming for me Grimlock but probably hurt you Monika for advantage."

"What about your comms? Radioing for help?"

"Me Grimlock wanted be alone so tore it out! You Monika need leave while can! Me Grimlock handle bozos!!"

Grimlock stood up and started searching the sky for his enemies. A mental image quickly flashed in Monika's head of Grimlock being torn to pieces.

"No! You can't!! You're strong Grimlock, the strongest Dinobot of all, but even YOU can't win against both of them!!" Monika hung her head and tightened her fists. "You'll die......"

"..... But me Grimlock can buy you Monika time."

Her head snapped to him with tears in her eyes. "What?!"

"You Monika run while stupid Decepticons have attention on me Grimlock! You Monika live life you wanted with humans! Biggest wish me Grimlock have is for you Monika to live life happily......... even if it without me Grimlock."

The veil of fear was gone for Monika now. She now saw the Dinobot for who he truly was under all his destructive power. A brave, loyal, compassionate Autobot who was willing to face frightening odds so weaker beings wouldn't have to.

"I won't leave you, Grimlock!" she declared.

"And exactly what you Monika expect to do?! Write poems at them?! Even me Grimlock think that stupid!"

Monika had to admit that he had a point. She had been a part of the war here but she hadn't really fought in it. She just ran and let everyone else do the fighting for her.

He turned to her with a grim look in his eyes.

".... You Monika not in game anymore. Reality no get rewritten like game. You no can help so run. Run and live! .......... Very least for me Grimlock sake."

He was right. Outside of her game, she may as well have been human. She had no way of contributing to the fight.

"I..." she swallowed a lump in her throat. "I'll come back with help! I promise!!"

"...... Just be free. That me Grimlock's final request."

Her eyes watered over as she gave Grimlock one final look before turning around and running off.

She ran to the edge she had fallen off from just as two large figures soared over her head. There was no doubt, these were the combiners.

One was red with massive weapons on its upper body. Monika saw the lion head of Razorclaw in its body so she guessed that this had to be Predaking.

The other one was multi colored. And while it didn't have any massive weapons sticking out of it, there was a feeling she got when looking at it that was much more.......ominous. This had to be Abominus.

They either didn't see Monika or they didn't care. They flew straight for Grimlock and Monika started her climb.

"Look at what we have here!" Even from a distance Monika could hear Predaking's boast. "A poor lonely Dinobot about to be murdered. Still think your breed of beastial transformers is superior?!"

"You need two combined forms to take down me Grimlock all by self. You ALREADY prove Dinobot superiority!" laughed Grimlock.

"Enough talk!!" Abominus snapped. "LET'S JUST END THIS ALREADY!!!"

Monika reached the edge for the volcano wall and started her climb. She could already hear the sounds of battle but she dared not to look back. Roars, laser blasts, and the sound of metal slamming against metal meant that all combatants were giving it their all. If Monika started to watch then she feared she would be unable to stop out of concern for Grimlock.

She climbed up about three feet and stopped. The ground that covered the volcano was breaking. Naturally, it was a cap formed out of rock and hardened lava but through the giant cracks that were forming she saw fresh hot lava at the bottom.

"YOU IDIOT!!!" Monika heard one of the combiners shout. "WHY DID YOU DO THAT?!"

"What?!" Grimlock replied. "Dinobots never had problem with lava before!! Same for two of you, right?"

"ANYTHING A DINOBOT CAN HANDLE, A PREDACON CAN TOO!!!"

"Even if have opened injuries?" asked Grimlock.

"NO!!!" Monika was pretty sure it was Abominus shouting now. "YOU DID NOT SET THIS UP!!! YOU'RE AN IDIOT!!! A SIMPLETON!!! A PRIMITIVE NEANDERTHAL!!!"

"Maybe..... but unlike you two, me Grimlock manage to protect flight capabilities during fight!"

Monika couldn't stop herself at that claim. She turned around and got a good look at all three of them. Grimlock was transformed but clearly looked the worst out of the three, Predaking's wings had been torn off (Monika assumed they were wings but something had clearly been torn off) but was otherwise fine, and taking second place in worse for wear was Abominus who had his limbs sparking up a storm.

The ground finally crumbled away and Grimlock transformed back into his dinosaur form. As Predaking and Abominus fell down into the lava, Grimlock activated some jets from under his dino feet and took off.

"AHAHAHA!!! BIG VICTORIES ALWAYS MAKE ME GRIMLOCK FEEL BETTER!!!"

Monika had to admit it, she was impressed. Like a lot of other people, she didn't have a very high opinion of Grimlock's intelligence but he played out his trap perfectly.

He was flying directly to her, she couldn't believe it. He even had HER fooled!

She reached out her hand and he grabbed it.

"NO!!!" shouted Predaking. "You do NOT get to leave here with a SMILE ON YOUR FACE!!!"

As he sunk deeper into the lava, Predaking fired one of his chest cannons and hit Grimlock in one of his jet boosters. Monika and Grimlock screamed as they were hurdled out of the sky.

They had made it over the wall of the volcano, but that was about the only good thing they had going for them at the moment. The ground was spiraling to them awfully fast so Grimlock pulled Monika close and curled into a ball.

They hit the ground hard but Grimlock took the blunt of the damage. They bounced off their point of impact and hit the ground again. For a third and final time they bounced off the ground before grinding to a stop.

Grimlock uncurled himself and Monika fell out.

"Me Grimlock give Predacons this much, they good shot!"

Monika scrambled to her feet and raced to his side. "GRIMLOCK!!!" He was injured more than Monika had expected. It was her understanding that his dinosaur form was a lot more resistant to damage than his robot form, but here he was with large dents and gashes so big that she could see the circuitry underneath.

"Are you okay?! Can you move?!"

Grimlock flipped over to his belly and tried to get up. Monika could hear his gears grinding in protest at his movements, sparks flew out of his arms before his body collapsed right back to the ground.

"Grimlock!!!"

"Ugh!! Nope. Me Grimlock just gonna stay here for moment. Maybe you Monika return to base and send someone to help? Me Grimlock really appreciate that."

Monika nodded in determination. She wouldn't fail him!

A shadow fell over them and for a moment Monika thought that they had lucked out. That an Autobot had come looking for her and found them.... but she was wrong.

"Well well well.... What have we here?"

The voice sent a chill up Monika's spine. She knew it well; and this was the absolute worst time for him to show up. She turned to face their new visitor, Starscream.

"The Mighty and Powerful Grimlock injured and vulnerable? Why whoever could have seen such an opportunity coming? Oh that's right! I, the genius Starscream, did!! Your trap may have been well laid to those simple beasts but someone of MY brilliance saw right through it!! Your distress signal was a bit too pathetic for it to be taken seriously! Ironic, because now you truly DO need help!"

Starscream took aim at Grimlock with his Null-Ray.

"I come back with your head, and the other Decepticons will make me their new ruler for sure!!"

Monika stepped into Starscream's line of fire with her arms spread out wide.

"Don't touch him!!" she demanded.

"Move aside! I don't have time for mice like you!"

"You really are pathetic, you know that Starscream?! Everything Megatron says about you is true! You really think killing Grimlock when he's like this will make you a ruler?! You'll just be a coward who kicked a superior warrior when he was down! Nobody will be impressed with you by the fact that you ended a titan when somebody else already did the hard work for you!!"

Starscream gritted his teeth but remained unmoving. "Move! Now! A non-combatant wouldn't know anything about the glories of war!"

"You're right! I'm not a combatant in this war; but I have seen enough terrifying battles to know that the true victories are earned! And you Starscream didn't do a damn thing to earn this victory! So go ahead, kill him!! But I promise you that it won't change a damn thing with the other Decepticons.......or with Megatron!!"

"Grrrrrrrrr!"

This was the angriest Monika had ever seen Starscream but she didn't care. He was disgusting! She couldn't just stand idly by and let him kill Grimlock when he was at his lowest!

"THAT DOES IT!!!" Starscream roared.

He fired and Monika took the blast full force. She screamed as her whole body tried to rip itself apart. The device that made up her body, the little gizmo that was her core, she could feel parts of it exploding. It was like being deleted but a thousand times worse. Was this always to be her fate? To have someone else rip her apart to nothingness against her will?

"NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!"

Monika fell to the ground and her vision started to blur. She heard the sound of Grimlock transforming followed by Starscream's screams of terror and pain. She heard Starscream transform and take off, then her vision started to fade.

"MONIKA!!!"

Grimlock picked her up, it felt like she was floating. Maybe it was because her head was swimming but for the first time she noticed that Grimlock's visor in his robot form looked pretty cool. She wasn't as much of a fan of his battle damage though, looked like he was about to catch fire or something..... Or maybe that was her own damage speaking.

"SPEAK TO GRIMLOCK!!!"

Her whole body flickered in and out of existence for a moment. Maintaining her form was becoming an uphill battle. It was literally a fight to survive.

"G-Grim....lock.... Did you mean the things about.... wanting me...... to be free.......?"

"Yes!! That all me Grimlock ever really wanted!!"

She weakly smiled.

"And b-buying me..... time to.... escape?"

".........Monika not SUPPOSED to be part of trap!! Me Grimlock had to adapt!! So YES, that part true too!!"

Monika weakly laughed at his and she was painfully punished for it by having her body flicker again. Grimlock panicked when he saw this and Monika was reminded again about how much he truly and honestly cared.

"It all going to be okay though!! Me Grimlock bring us back to base and Ratchet fix us up!! Make everything good again!!"

He started to stomp out into the desert with a limp and Monika looked wistfully at the sunset. His gears still grinded in protest and Monika could hear that he was walking with a limp.

"Do...... you....... think that....we could...... have actually worked? ...... I'm about... culture.... and nice s-settings......a-and you..... l-like to fight...."

Grimlock stared forward silently for a moment before coming to a decision.

"....... Want to know exactly why me Grimlock fall for Monika?"

Monika almost laughed again but was able to refrain.

"What.... g-g-girl wouldn't.....?"

"When you Monika get deleted.... Well... Me Grimlock actually needed Ratchet do that because ran out of pictures and didn't understand why it stopped at you face and............. getting off subject. You Monika say that you sacrificed everything but didn't. You make way to bring other girls back because they you friends!"

Monika was starting to drift in and out of consciousness but she let him continue.

"Hurt other girls but no enjoy it!! Not really anyways! Love them!! And club! You Monika cared about friends!! Cared more than willing to admit!"

He did care. He cared more about her than even she thought she was worthy of. More than her club members, and certainly more than her 'owner'. It might even be reasonable to say that he cared for her more than anyone. She smiled at him again.

"..... sweet....talker...."

"Me Grimlock like loyalty! Like comradery!! And when Sayori start to go down same path, Monika delete everything!!"

"C-Couldn't.... let her.... hurt.... you...."

"Ha! Is that why you Monika do that? Or so friend wouldn't make same mistakes?"

Monika had never really thought about it like that. She supposed that she did prevent Sayori from making her mistakes...... Or maybe that was her lack of ability to think clearly?

"Still....... Me Grimlock believed love confession. Guess too excited to see Monika's wants in partner...."

"I..... didn't..... really.... see..... you.... either....."

"........ Not you Monika's fault. You see monster and.... Well me Grimlock AM... To enemies though. Not friends like you Monika. Me Grimlock promise never hurt Monika."

Monika gave Grimlock one last smile and then.....her world cut out.

Ratchet's lab.....

Everything came in as a blurring blob. Monika heard voices but very faintly. A good sign considering she was certain that she was supposed to be dead right now.

It hurt to blink. Again, to be fair, even having the ability to blink was better than she could have hoped for.

Her vision finally cleared and the ceiling to Ratchet's lab looked back at her. Had his lab always been so bright? Did he have a dimmer switch? If not, he should.

"Yes, Monika should be out of danger now...." Ratchet's voice boomed to her. Monika liked it better when she could only faintly hear them.

She was laying on an operating table at an angle. She tried to sit up and instantly regretted it. Her head swam so hard that it felt like it was threatening to take her with it. She lurched over to the side; if she could she probably would have hurled her guts out.

A hand eased Monika back to laying down. It was Grimlock! And he looked a lot better than she felt.

"Grimlock!"

"You Monika take it easy. Had very close call..."

"The both of you did!!" scolded Ratchet as Grimlock ran off and brought back an energon cube. "Thankfully, Grimlock didn't destroy his distress beacon so we were able to find you in time!"

The cube Grimlock brought her was someone more of his size but he held it for her in a way that she could take her time drinking from it without any difficulty.

"One second later and you would have been permanently offline!! It took weeks to get your core to primary functions!! And Grimlock is lucky I was able to fix his legs at all; almost had to scrap them!"

Monika drank her fill. It helped. A lot! Unlike last time, this time the energon hit her more like a vitamin smoothie. A nutrient milkshake. She loved it!

She took a moment to address Ratchet. "Thank you, Ratchet. So do I need to take it easy for a certain amount of time or....?"

"Sigh. Thankfully, we were able to bring your core back to its original modeling so you should be fine. Finish that energon cube and you can go outside with Grimlock."

Monika turned to Grimlock quizzically.

"We have things to talk about...." he explained.

#Magical Monika Time Skip Transition#

Monika was surprised by how much good downing that cube of energon did for her. She felt as good as new! Although, to be fair, if what Ratchet said was true then technically she had already gone under weeks of 'surgery' to get back to default settings.

Outside they were just walking around the outskirt of the base, but she enjoyed it. She saw the Dinobots in their little fishing pool and waved to them. To her delight, Swoop waved back. It had honestly hurt to be shut out by the Dinobots so it pleased her to be back in their good graces.

Speaking of Dinobots....

Monika stole a glance at Grimlock and blushed. Her feelings for him had officially changed. A lot!! So what if he didn't have lips to kiss? She wouldn't let that stop her! Still, the question remained ...

"What did you want to talk about, Grimlock?"

"Good news! Monika still can live with humans! Offer still stands! No have to worry about scary war anymore!"

"I.... thought I blew my chance with that by missing my deadline!"

"No. You Monika just come across as rude to opportunity given. They waiting for you new life to start."

Monika stopped their walk by standing in front of Grimlock. "But what if... What if I don't want that anymore?"

Grimlock bent down to her so they were face to face. She could swear that his tail was lightly wagging in the air like a little puppy dog.

"Oooooh? Then what DO you Monika want?"

"I want what you originally offered to me! The relationship!! I want to give it an honest try this time!"

She knew his dinosaur form couldn't really smile but she felt the energy he had for it.

A coy sparkle shined in his glass like eyes.

"And why should we be together? Nothing in common; you Monika say so yourself."

Grimlock pointed at himself. "Thrills." Then he pointed at Monika. "Chills."

It was simple word play but effective. Although there may have been a double meaning with his word of 'Chills', since she did come from a psychological horror game. Monika was starting to wonder if there was maybe a hidden poet in Grimlock.

Still, his challenge was a fair one but one Monika was ready to rise to.

"Because I believe you encourage better parts of myself. I'm not the same Monika that first popped out of the game; you think she'd be willing to take a shot from a Null-Ray? Ha! I'm...... changing - No! Transforming.... into a different, better Monika. A Monika that I like! And I owe that to you Grimlock! Give me the chance and I swear that I'll do my best to make you happy!"

Monika got the impression that she had told him exactly what he wanted to hear... But they weren't done yet!

"And how me Grimlock know you Monika's feelings truly changed? What you do to prove want real relationship this time?"

Monika had to admit that Grimlock had a point. Words just simply weren't going to be enough, she needed action too! And with a bot like Grimlock, only one course of action came to mind to prove how serious she was about this.

She said to him two words and two words alone. Words that she would have considered suicidal at the beginning of all this.

"Fight. Me."

Grimlock fell over backwards laughing. Monika felt her face grow hot from anger.

"I'm serious!! My body is digital, so while it does feel pain it still can't be permanently bruised or flattened!!"

Grimlock's laughter finally died down and he sat up.

"Okay! Okay. Me Grimlock believe you Monika! Just didn't expect you Monika be so funny. Agree to start new relationship.... On one condition!"

"What's that?"

"Need to get settled in human life like wanted. Start date after couple months so no claim of stock.... home...thingy."

"Stockholm syndrome? How'd you even learn about that?"

"Sky Lynx tell! He good friend to talk to!"

Monika beamed at Grimlock.

"You talk to him too?"

"Sky Lynx excellent listener!"

"I know, right?"

Grimlock bent down to her again and offered his hand.

"It deal then. Shake on it?"

Monika brushed his hand aside and grabbed his snoot.

"How about we kiss on it instead?"

She gave his nose a small little peck and then took a step back. At first, he didn't do anything. He just stood there, bent over, frozen in place.

"....AAAGH!!! WHY MONIKA KISS MY NOSE?!"

Grimlock had jumped back and scampered away from Monika on his back.

"That's.... what a girlfriend does! What were you expecting?!" Monika furiously explained as the Dinobot got back on his feet.

"More time together like we already have!! No one ever tell me Grimlock there was kissing involve!!"

Monika felt an anger twitch starting to develop in her eye.

"Well.... There is! Like, a lot! Especially when I'm involved!!"

Grimlock took an awkward step back from Monika.

"Uuuugh! Me Grimlock no think me want girlfriend anymore! Me no Kisser, me King!!"

She took a step forward, unwilling to let him get away.

"Well me Monika do enough kissing for both of us!!"

"AAAGH!!! YOU STAY AWAY FROM ME GRIMLOCK!!!"

Grimlock ran off leaving Monika in a stupor for a moment.

'You're kidding me!' she thought. 'All this time, all I had to do was just play the reverse psychology card and he would've left me alone?! .... Well too bad! I want him now and not even HE can stop me!'

"ME MONIKA WANT KISS!!!"

Grimlock ran straight past his fellow Dinobots in his blind panic.
