Back to me

Summary:

Seeing you two and a half years after a sudden disappearance post-graduation with a pink-haired toddler isn’t what he expected- but it definitely makes him see things differently.

Sukuna misses you and that just solidifies the fact that he wants you back.

In his mind; you shouldn’t be apart anyway.

Chapter Text

In college you were wild. What hot young woman wouldn’t be?

Wild may be an understatement, but your junior and senior year was spent at every group study session, student body meeting, the occasional party.

Rarely the after parties.

Having an on-and-off-again popular boyfriend that dragged you out despite your protests played a big part in that. It wasn't very often Sukuna did want to go to parties, but he always made you tag along with him.

Sukuna made sure to show you off during parties, cockily flaunting you around as the two of you danced. Not that he really cared what others thought about either of you.

You weren’t as popular as the frat boys or your boyfriend. Most people knew you from the student body— and your looks before you even got involved with Sukuna.

A kind, intelligent, ineluctable young woman with her big, arrogant nerd of a boyfriend. The perfect balanced couple… is what people would have thought if the two of you didn’t take breaks so often.

You and Sukuna can’t stay far from each other at all. You’ve tried multiple times when you’ve broken up before. It always ended the same.

An apology. Some cursing. Him making you cum so hard you rarely even cared about why you broke up. Getting back together.

It was routine.

Usually.

During a typical break in your relationship, Sukuna slept some random girl, maybe after a party. As petty and jealous as you are when it comes to him, you got your lick back and slept with someone in the frat.

Needless to say, the argument had was not pretty.

That… situation is what led you two to finally split for good. Not without you having one last anger-fueled night in his bed.

An anger-fueled night that ended up with you pregnant, unbeknownst to you at the time.

You only found out you were pregnant the day of graduation, and at that point you weren’t keen on telling anyone. Especially not Sukuna.

You can vividly cast your mind back to the way he eyed you that morning; his red eyes meticulously following you across the stage, lingering on you whilst your pictures were taken. As if he was waiting for a moment for your eyes to meet like they used to, followed by that pretty smile he loved.

You made sure to avoid him, though. His presence, his eyes... his friends. You got through the ceremony without any interaction between you two like you wanted.

You and your child could move on with your lives together. Without Sukuna, like you wanted.

And you succeeded.

A few months after graduation, you had your baby girl you absolutely adored even though she had her father's looks; right out the womb with pink wispy hair— a punch to your solar plexus, really. A tiny reminder of him that you couldn't help falling in love with the moment she was put in your arms.

Suki was everything to you. Sure, being a new mom at 21 was a learning curve, yet you took pride in how well you were doing on your own. You had a decent sized apartment, an easy office job that gave you enough money to take care of things, and a beautiful daughter.

The first few months of Suki's life left you delirious, worn, and exhausted beyond belief. What little bit of your social life you had left slowly dwindled down to your days being just you and Suki. You weren't really upset about it, though. You got enough "friendly" interaction at work with your coworkers.

Currently?

Suki toddled alongside you in the park, holding her brand new stuffed bunny she had picked out at the store a short while ago. After you two went shopping it was routine for you to spend time at the park, enjoying the fall weather together.

The park was rather empty today, only a few parents and other small children playing on the various equipment. Good, you thought. Suki preferred when the park wasn't too crowded— as did you.

"Suki, want mommy to push you on the swings?" You crouch to her level, smiling as you motion to the swings a few feet away.

Suki barely spares you a glance, quickly but unsteadily toddling over to the swings. "Mama, push!" She chirped, bouncing on her toes in excitement when you follow after her with a fond chuckle.

You scoop her up, carefully sitting her into the baby swing with her bunny still in her hand. "You wanna hold bunny or should I-"

"Mine!"

"Alright then." You sigh, watching her hold the stuffed bunny tighter as you step forward to start pushing the swing gently.

It squeals with effort, moving back and forth… and back and forth. The repetitive motion is relaxing, for both you and Suki.

Suki's been looking at you mostly, a cheerful grin on her chubby face… until her eyes drift just behind you and to your legs, gaining the curious glint you know all too well with a tilt of her head. You look down behind you, only to see a small boy a bit older than your daughter with black and pink hair.

Huh. Maybe he wandered away from his parents.

You mentally shrug it off, your attention returning to Suki… who's still staring at the little boy behind you.

One of your brows raise, stopping the swing for a moment. "Do you wanna play with him? You keep staring at him." You question, holding your arms out toward her to see if she wants to get out of the seat.

Suki looks between you and the pink-haired boy, reaching up to you after a second. As you set her down beside you; she hesitantly approaches the boy, clutching her bunny tightly. You stand close by, deciding to observe whatever little interaction they'll have.

"Hi! You have pink hair too!" The boy beams, practically shouting when he notices Suki standing by him. "What's your name?- I'm Yuji! I'm… this many!" Yuji holds up 3 fingers, smiling widely.

Suki nods shyly, squeezing her plushy closer to her. "I'm Suki, and.. this many." She struggles for a second with her motor skills, holding up two fingers.

A pause… then: "Wan' play?"

"Yes!" Yuji squeals, running off to the playset.

You smile when Suki comes up to you, giving you her bunny. "I'll be here. Go have fun," you assure her, patting her head in permission.

Suki hugs your leg in silent thanks, bounding after Yuji.

It's nice for her to finally have a friend to play with, rather than playing alone or with you like she usually does. You walk over to a bench near the playset, watching the two of them take turns going down the small slide and giggling while crawling in the tubes.

It's an adorable thing to witness.

Yuji and Suki play for nearly two hours straight. Endlessly.

You almost feel bad when you go to interrupt the two of them.

You walk and sit on the edge of the playset, checking the time on your phone. 6:03 PM.

The two toddlers are still laughing, caught in their own imaginary adventure. You clear your throat, turning to face them. "Hey, it's time for us to go, baby. Tell Yuji bye bye." You utter sympathetically, preparing for the incoming refutation.

Suki stares blankly at you for a long moment, her brows furrowed in annoyance— but the exhaustion outweighs the need for more playtime. Yuji pouts as well, standing beside you.

"Mama-" A yawn interrupts her. Suki rubs at her eyes, reluctantly nodding. She mumbles a soft bye to Yuji, holding her arms out to you. You scoop her up in your arms, holding her against your shoulder.

A quick glance around has you concerned for Yuji- there doesn't seem to be any other adults that are alone out.

"Where's your parents, sweetheart?" You inquire, walking with him around the park. You can't just leave a toddler alone when it's becoming so late. What kind of mom would you be?

Yuji shakes his head, "Not mommy, Uncle took me to the park." He admits quietly.

You simply nod, searching for a singular man now rather than a couple. "Okay, your uncle.. Did he say he was going somewhere?" you ask, taking his hand in your free one. Suki is already half asleep in your arms. Yuji holds your hand tightly, trying to remember what his uncle said earlier. "No…"

So he should still be around the park.

You and Yuji continue your walk down the trail, until a gruff voice sounds out:

"Yuji. What are you doing, brat? I was looking for you by the obstacle course."

You stop in your tracks, eyes widening. You know that voice. Even if you haven't heard it in years—the same voice that you used to dream about— Your ex.

Sukuna.

Yuji lets go of your hand, rushing to Sukuna—his uncle— with a smile. "Uncle 'Kuna! I was playing." The three year old grasps onto his uncle's hand. "Thanks Suki's mommy!"

A pause. You can feel Sukuna staring at your back.

Then a whisper of your name.

You swallow the lump in your throat, turning to face him. "Sukuna."

Lo and behold, he's barely changed since the last time you've seen him. Still tall, but somehow looking larger than life in front of you like this. Maybe its just the anxiety—or the fact that you still thought he looked as handsome as ever.

Or the fact that you had his daughter and never told him.

The same daughter asleep in your arms.

His eyes meet yours, a gleam of recognition, attraction, and… something else. "Didn't expect to see you here- or again, really. That your kid?" Sukuna nods at Suki, sharp eyes already speculating at the color of her hair.

You could die right now, honestly.

"Yeah, she's mine. I.. I just wanted to make sure Yuji got to his guardian safely." You stammer, unsure what next to say to him— and completely clueless on how to escape this conversation.

"It's been too long.. you look as good. As always," Sukuna smirks, slowly dragging his eyes down your figure. "I think we should talk about some things- reconnect, y'know. Gimme your number." He demands, handing you his unlocked phone.

"I.. yeah," You agree, still in partial shock that this is even happening. You type in your number reluctantly, saving your own contact and hand him back his phone. "I guess we'll catch up another time." You force a tight smile.

Sukuna hums in agreement, looking back at the sleeping Suki. "We will. Plenty of stuff to talk about." He says pointedly, giving you a knowing look. "Thanks for looking out for my nephew."

You nod, muttering a small deflection. "No problem… I'm gonna get going now. Bye Yuji, Sukuna," you offer a wave, quickly turning in the opposite direction.

Yuji waves while Sukuna just watches you walk to the parking lot. He has a lot on his mind now.

You, his—possible—daughter, you again…

How much more attractive he finds you.

How he still has feelings for you.

He stares down at your contact, already planning what to text you later.

"Lets get you home Yuji." Sukuna grunts, leading Yuji to the car.

That'll just have to wait til later.
