Through the Looking-Glass

Summary:

Set in 7th year. Draco's to be initiated at Yule, but he doesn't want to take the Dark Mark. His godfather is out of town, so he has no choice than to turn to Harry Potter for help. When he's called sooner, drastic situations demand drastic measures, which is exactly what they both get themselves into.

*This story was started before HBP came out. So in this story, HBP never happened.*

Special thank you goes to my beta Lynette. ^_^

Through the Looking-glass

Prologue.

Draconis,

You have finally come of age. You have no idea how long I’ve – we’ve – been waiting for this very moment. Our Lord has called me; and he has set a date. A date for you to finally join us. You will join our ranks, Draconis, and fight on our side to rid the world of Mudbloods and Muggles. You will come home for Christmas break. You are to be initiated at Yule, which gives you exactly one month to prepare properly. See to it that you do for you do not want to displease our Lord.

Remember your name and Malfoy pride, Draconis.

Lucius.

Draco put the piece of parchment on his desk, closing his eyes and burying his face in his hands. There had been a mass Death Eater escape from Azkaban last year, causing things to stir up again. All of them had faithfully returned to their Lord, waiting for his orders to fulfil his task, to rid the world of Mudbloods and Muggles. Draco’s housemates had been excited, but he himself had remained quiet. Yes, he hated Mudbloods and Muggles, Dumbledore, Potter and all the rest of those Muggle-loving fools; yes, he followed Voldemort’s ideals, but did he follow him? No, he did not. He did not want to follow someone who had failed to kill a child, a baby even. Not that he wanted to join the Light side either. He didn't want to join either side, but he knew he would have to make a final choice, and soon… But he refused to bow, he would kneel for no one, not even for Merlin or the Devil himself. But he knew he would have to pick Light or Dark, there was just no escape from that…

He'd had a miserable start this year. He had been made Headboy, as expected, but the task had seemed much easier watching someone else do it. He had to put up with that Mudblood Granger twice a week, leading Prefect’s meetings, and he hated it. On top of that, there were numerous other tasks he had to do, plus Prefect rounds three times a week. All of that on top of his homework. He never had any trouble keeping up with his classes and his work, but he would have to take his N.E.W.T.s this year and he wondered how he was going to pull it off, seeing as he barely had time to study between his classes, Quidditch and Prefect duties. He had been snappy the entire time, often working until far into the night. Luckily for him, he was granted his own quarters so he wouldn’t be disturbed by any of his other housemates. But now this… The announcement he had been fearing ever since last summer. The announcement that he was to be initiated, taken into Voldemort’s ranks. He had enough stress to deal with at Hogwarts. He didn’t exactly want this on top of it, but it seemed that he had no choice. He heaved a heavy sigh and he put the letter from his father back into the envelope and placed it in the drawer of his desk. This day couldn’t possibly get worse… At that moment, there was a knock on the door.

“Draco," Pansy’s voice sounded from the other side of the door, “It’s time for Prefect rounds.”

He closed his eyes for a brief moment. He had been wrong. This day had just gotten worse after all.

“One second, Pansy," he replied.

He pushed himself up from his seat, cracking his back, before blowing out the candles and heading out the door to fulfil his prefect duties.
