Work Text:

6:37 pm

The sun reached the edge of the horizon as the day drew to a close. The air was filled with the scent of autumn, and the yellowing trees lined the roads. Around this hour, most college students were heading back home for the night after their grueling classes. Testing season had just kicked into gear, and the woes of tired students were felt throughout the town.

The door creaked open, and inside stepped Firefly, who had just arrived home after a stressful day of lectures and exams, and she was exhausted. The girl closed the door behind her, took off her coat and shoes at the entryway, and plopped her heavy handbag on the floor.

"Wolfie!… I'm home." Firefly called out into the seemingly empty apartment. Her words carried a hint of weariness, but she hoped to forget about her day soon. Before she could call out a second time, she heard a loud THUD from a room down the hallway.

"DAMMIT, another loss… I'm never gonna get this character!!"

Firefly waltzed over to the entrance of the dim bedroom. Sure enough, she found Silver Wolf, playing one of her gacha games and looking awfully irritated, with only the computer screen in front of her illuminating the room. Firefly saw her bitter expression and decided to try and distract her.

"Hey Wolfie~ watcha playin'?" She kept her hands held behind her back as she moseyed over to the hunched gamer, trying to keep down any irritation she had from today's events.

"That stupid gacha game I've been telling you about. They released a new character and I've spent EVERY SINGLE ONE of my pulls trying to get them and still lost! I don't even know how that's possible?? The banner system sucks and the pity—"

Silver Wolf kept on complaining about her misfortune, but the only thing Firefly could focus on was her girlfriend's adorable face. 'She's so cute when she's angry…' the girl thought to herself, staring at the hacker's silvery gray eyes… the way they drew her in like a bee to a flower… the way her pearly colored eyebrows furrowed while she rambled on about… well.. Firefly forgot at this point.

"—not the MENTION this is the last day on their banner… ugh, fine I guess I'll grab them on their rerun…"

Silver Wolf stood up from her comfortable chair, slamming her controller down in the process, snapping Firefly out of her daze. The gamer approached her smitten partner and wrapped her hands around her waist, pulling the girl into her cold embrace. She then nuzzled her head into Firefly's neck and planted a small peck on her collar.

"Anyways, enough about my pitiful luck, how was your day Fi?"

Despite the feelings of sorrow being obscured by her love of Silver Wolf moments before, the question she was posed brought those feelings back into full swing. When the gamer eventually moved her body back away from Firefly to see why she hadn't responded, she noticed her girlfriend's gloomy expression.

"It was… bad…. I-" The words caught on her tongue before they could even exit, but after a moment she managed to force them out. "I... failed a test today." The hacker was about to tease her, let her know it's nothing big to worry about, and that tests can always be made up, but Firefly kept talking.

"It was one of Dr. Ratio's tests for Calc 3… I'm already close to failing his class and I'm sure this stupid exam will tip my grade over the edge. He doesn't give makeups, extra credit is once in a blue moon. Hell, he's even strict with attendance but I'm sure you know as well as me how heartless of a teacher he is…"

Firefly was right, Silver Wolf had taken his course last semester. She had always been one to maintain mostly A's while skipping essentially every lecture. However, his class was one of the few courses she had almost gotten a C in. The only way she passed was by hacking into her grade and changing it ever so slightly.

The hacker stood there, loosely wrapped around her girlfriend. She saw how upset Firefly was and knew she needed to ease her sorrows. By this point, she had already forgotten about whatever game she was playing before; this was now her top priority.

"I'm sure everything will be fineee, I think he does a few extra credit assignments near the end of the semester. As long as you lock in and score those extra points, you should no doubt get a passing grade."

"But! What if-" Silver Wolf brought her finger up to the girl's lips and hushed her.

"You can think about 'what ifs'" all day long but the fact is, you already took the test. If you keep thinking about the future you're going to get tilted all over again. From what I remember, the next exam should be in around 3 weeks. That's plenty of time to grind on studying, plus if worst comes to worst, I can always make a few "edits" here and there to your record~"

Firefly lightly pinched the gamer's cheek, snickering at the way her face winced. "You're a bad influence, you know that?"

"I know, that's why you stick around isn't it~"

A soft chuckle was shared between them. They stared at each other for a few seconds in silence. Silver Wolf's mouth was slightly ajar, and Firefly could feel the warm breath emanating from it. Firefly leaned in, and so did the gamer; within seconds, they were making out. Their tongues danced a devilish tango, exploring each other while they softly moaned into each other's mouths. Firefly could feel her heartbeat rising and her body getting warmer, but she didn't care. Seconds turned into minutes as neither of them wanted to be the one to break their embrace.

Eventually, Firefly pulled away and returned a warm smile to the gamer. Then a moment of realization hit her as she told her girlfriend to wait a moment and hurried out of the room.

"I forgot to show you! Look what I picked up from Stelle on the way home!"

The girl returned to the room, now equipped with 2 bottles of liquor. "I complained to Stelle about my horrid exam experience and she offered to pick up some drinks for me! I let her know to grab two so you wouldn't be left out if I had any~"

"And you say I'm the bad influence," as Silver Wolf nudged the girl in the shoulder, and they both laughed quietly.

"I was thinking… maybe we could take these up to the roof tonight and drink them while we stargaze."

The gamer agreed, and they hugged one last time, sharing a final peck on the cheek each as Firefly exited the bedroom.

"I love you Wolfie~"

"Love you too, Starbug~"

10:26 pm

The sun had long past sunken below the skyline, and the luminous moon had taken residence in the sky. Thousands of tiny, twinkling stars adorned the sky, and on a cloudless night like this, it was the perfect scenery for stargazing.

After their conversation, Firefly had gone to the kitchen to reheat some leftovers for dinner, and the hacker had loaded up a new game now sporting a particularly high win streak.

Once Silver Wolf had finished her last match for the night, she checked the time and realized it was just past when they had agreed to meet on the roof for stargazing. She hurriedly changed from her oversized t -shirt into something more insulating and made her way to the fire escape.

The gamer reached the peak of her accent and saw the enchanting scene Firefly had put together. A thick blanket was laid out over the concrete, A few of their pillows scattered on top, and a small tray for their drinks to rest on. 'She really does think of everything,' the hacker thought.

"Oh, you're here! Come get comfy~" The girl patted the empty spot next to her. "I hope you don't mind, but already got started on my drink." She poked her fingers together, trying to come off as innocent. Sure enough, when Silver Wolf looked at her girlfriend's beverage, there was almost a third already gone.

"You really needed this, huh? Couldn't even wait for your amazing girlfriend to arrive before cracking open your bottle, I feel so betrayed." She pretended to pout but couldn't hold back a wide grin.

"Oh shut up, at best you're a great girlfriend, you were late after all. For someone so short, how do you manage to have such a giant ego?" Firefly returned an equally big grin, and they both snickered as the gamer got comfy in her spot.

She cracked open her own bottle, "My my~ you get awfully bold when you're tipsy, If I were you I'd watch my words Fi, If not I might have to take my revenge." Silver Wolf leaned closer and pinched her girlfriend's cheek. Firefly swatted her away, and the gamer giggled.

They clinked their glasses together and took a large swig of their drinks. They sat in silence for a while, taking in the prismatic lights decorating the sky while they continued to down their booze.

In their silence, the hacker couldn't help but sneak a few glances at her girlfriend. The breeze blew her hair in ways that were only seen in cheesy romcoms. Her eyes that somehow captured the alluring scene of a sunset. The way her cheeks bloomed with a crimson shade from the alcohol. Best of all, her smile. So bright it lit up her entire face, and so infectious it was hard to look at without smiling back. The snug cardigan she wore, which perfectly framed her cleava-

"Wolfie!"

"Huh!"

"What are— What are you lookin at! Silly~"

Silver Wolf was so caught up in her trance that she didn't realize Firefly had noticed. The gamer quickly turned her head and stammered some excuse. "N-Nothing! Your sweater just looked really cozy is all…"

"Oh really?? I have an idea then!! Just a silly little idea, yeah!" and before the hacker could protect herself, Firefly had flung her arms up in the air and practically pounced on her, trying to let the gamer feel the fabric. "It feels REALLY good, doesn't it?"

"Yes it does Fi," She giggled to herself. "Careful there, you nearly launched yourself off the roof."

"Okie fineee I'll— I'll be more careful… you're acting like Kafka… right now."

Silver Wolf was slightly annoyed at the comment. She loved Kafka dearly, but being compared to her was like being compared to your mom. "As if. I'm just looking out for you because once again, I'm an amazing girlfriend." The hacker looked down at her girlfriend's bottle and noticed it was almost empty. She knew Firefly had a lower tolerance to liquor, so this surprised her; nonetheless, she decided to tease her about it.

"Wow~ You didn't even finish your drink and you're already drunk out of your mind, huh lightweight? Maybe you should ease up on the drinking so you don't mess up your insides idiot."

"I'll mess up YOUR insides!"

The gamer was taken aback by her statement. Usually, Firefly was a very shy person when it came to that stuff. She was obviously a little too drunk for her own good, so Silver Wolf decided to put an end to it. She edged closer to her wasted girlfriend and reached for the bottle. Before she could grab it, however, Firefly snatched it away with a dramatic yank.

"H— Hey!! You have your own bottle to— to drink why are YOU trying to steal MINE?" She made an exaggerated pouty face and acted as if Silver Wolf had broken every barrier of trust they had.

"I- uh… Just wanted a taste that's all, alas~ I forgot how greedy you were." Silver Wolf tried to act innocent, even putting her hands up like a criminal.

"Ohhh…that— that makes sense… You should've just said so silly!" Firefly then proceeded to take one last swig of her beverage and hold it in her mouth. Firefly then crawled up to the hacker, and before she could realize what she was doing, the girl kissed and opened her lips, transferring the alcohol from one mouth to the other.

Silver Wolf knew it was wrong to make out with her girlfriend while she was absolutely hammered. Regardless, she didn't pull away; she let it happen. The gamer gulped down the liquid while they made out, instinctively closing her eyes and focusing on the kiss. The taste of the alcohol was somehow leagues better when it came from her partner's mouth. She wanted more, but knew this needed to stop.

Firefly started to trail her hands up the hacker's body, one grasping her waist and the other sneaking its way under her top. That's when the gamer decided to pull away and get up before they went any further.

Despite the way she was acting just seconds ago, It seemed that Silver Wolf pulling away drained all her energy. The hacker couldn't refrain from gazing at her inebriated girlfriend, who was now lying face down, ass up in the pillows.

"Get up dummy, it's time to go to bed."

"Nyeghhh I'm— I'm too tired…"

Silver Wolf knew what she had to do, and she didn't like it. She mustered up the little strength she could and pulled Firefly onto her back, albeit with a strained groan.

"Hnghh!.. Y- You're gonna owe me for t- this." It was hard to form words when she was focusing on not buckling under the weight of her limp girlfriend. They eventually made their way to the stairs and started to descend.

Firefly couldn't help but nuzzle up against the gamer's back, even purring for some strange reason.

"…Y- you're adorable when you're d- drunk," The hacker murmured, though Firefly was too oblivious to notice. Deep down, she knew Firefly wouldn't remember what she said even if she did hear.

The two soon reached their apartment and made their way to the bedroom. Silver Wolf plopped her partner down on the bed and collapsed on the floor to catch her breath. By the time she stood up, Firefly had already latched herself onto her favorite pillow and was sleeping soundly. The hacker was unable to hide the soft smile that the sight plastered on her face.

Before she could sleep herself, she had gone back up to their stargazing setup to bring everything inside. After a few minutes, she was at long last able to get some rest. The gamer climbed into bed and wrapped her arm around her girlfriend.

Even while asleep, Firefly was able to muster out a weak "I love you W- Wolfie" before it trailed off into incoherent mumbles. Silver Wolf intuitively grappled harder, snuggling her warm partner.

"Love you too, Starbug~"
