Chapter Text

Victoria Javadi considered herself quite confident in her goals, that is, until she started working at Pitt. The pressure she felt from her parents, especially her mother, to do a residency in an area they approved of, her self-imposed pressure to maintain her current level, to prove that she was truly capable and not just a nepobaby, were issues that always lingered in her mind.

But, in recent months, something had been irritating her even more. It was her coworker, who until recently could be considered a friend, Trinity Santos. Not that she thought she was a bad person; she and Whitaker had taken her in several times when the atmosphere at home became too heavy to bear. She and Trinity went out together, mainly to shop or just to look at things in the shop windows. Even with her unremarkable skill in this area, she had helped Santos assemble some furniture for her apartment when Dennis wasn't home. The two had reached the stage where confidences were exchanged without much effort. Trinity was a good person, even if not everyone could see it.

Okay, maybe she wasn't "annoyed" by Santos's behaviour, but she definitely felt something that made her head spin. It was irritating how she saw her in small things in her daily life, even when they weren't together. A TikTok video that she thought was totally her, silly tattoos she saw when she looked at Pinterest, the damn playlist Santos had made for her to "expand her musical taste," a restaurant she would definitely like. It seemed like everything screamed Trinity Santos inside her ears and penetrated deep into her brain.

It wasn't like Victoria was helping herself either. She was sitting at her vanity, braiding her hair while listening to the playlist Trinity had made. She wouldn't admit it, but she was impressed by the other's varied musical taste and would obviously never confess that she added most of it to her own playlist.

The jacket Santos had lent her one day when she forgot her coat was leaning against the chair where she was sitting, and she could smell the perfume Trinity always wore. One day she would find out exactly what the fragrance was called, but for now she was content to smell it like this.

Suddenly her cell phone, which was on the dresser, began to vibrate, indicating that someone was texting her. She sighed, picking up the device and regretting it even more when she saw the sender.

Trinity

(9:05 PM)

Hey, Crash!

Craashh

You

(9:06 PM)

I already saw your message🙄

What do you want?

Trinity

(9:06 PM)

 Ouch, how rude!

What are you doing? 😁

You

(9:06 PM)

 Braiding my hair

Why?

Trinity?

Trinity

(9:11 PM)

Calm down, Crash. I just went to get something from my room

What miracle is this that Shamsi isn't making you read another case study?

You

(9:12 PM)

She and my father are celebrating their wedding anniversary.

I'm home alone. It's very nice, by the way.

Trinity

(9:12 PM)

Hmm, good to know...

You

(9:12 PM)

You still haven't answered my question.

Trinity

(9:13 PM)

Don't fall asleep yet and you'll find out soon.

You

(9:13 PM)

??

Your luck is that I don't have a shift tomorrow.

Trinity

(9:13 PM)

Obviously I know that, dummy.

Anyway, don't miss me too much until I get back.

You

(9:13 PM)

Only in your dreams!

Trinity was definitely plotting something and she definitely wouldn't know until she told her. She then thought that the most sensible thing would be to continue with her task while definitely not thinking about Santos.

----------

Javadi had always appreciated tranquility. Perhaps that's why she and Trinity didn't get along so well right away; the other woman was quite intense, and it took her a while to process that.

It was foolish of her to think that Trinity wouldn't be up to something in the minutes she disappeared, but she was so relaxed that she didn't even allow her brain to think about it. However, as life liked to play tricks, her cell phone vibrated again, this time with a call.

"Hey, Crash!" Trinity said in a hoarse, drawling voice, definitely having done something.

"You didn't get into any trouble, did you?" Victoria asked suspiciously.

"No, no, babe. Could you please look out your window?"

Javadi pretended the nickname didn't creep her out and got out of bed, dragging herself to her bedroom window that overlooked the street. She immediately frowned, not believing what she was seeing.

"I can't believe this. Don't you have anything more interesting to do?"

"I won't complain because I know you liked the surprise!" Trinity waved from inside her car, obviously amused by the whole situation.

“You’re impossible.”

Yeah, yeah, you can tell me more about it in here, Crash. Come on!

Victoria huffed before replying, “Okay, I’ll just grab a jacket.”

Ironically or not, she grabbed Trinity’s jacket and put on her slippers. Okay, her outfit wasn’t exactly perfect, but it would have to do. Victoria put her phone in her sweatpants pocket and grabbed her house key before running downstairs. Right now, she’d have to spend a few minutes convincing Shamsi that she’d be okay and wouldn’t do anything to compromise her. It was, at the very least, quite strange not to have this conversation while putting on her slippers. She quickly locked the front door before heading towards Trinity’s car, who was smiling broadly at her. Just seeing that made her feel nauseous.

“Do I need to repeat my question, or can you answer it?”

“Can’t I enjoy your illustrious company?” Trinity teased, making her roll her eyes. “I love it when you do that, you know?”

“Do what?”

“Roll your eyes. It’s so funny to see you pretend you don’t like me.”

Victoria snorted at that, ignoring the slight warmth she could feel on her cheeks.

“So, do you have any plans or what?”

“I was bored at home, I wanted to go for a walk and enjoy the night, I don’t know.”

“You didn’t want to be alone.”

“Yeah, yeah, maybe…” Trinity looked away after her failed attempt to appear uninterested.

“Okay. Have you thought about where we’re going?”

The sentence made Santos’s smug smile return to her lips as she narrowed her eyes. My God, how Javadi hated that.

“Have you convinced yourself to come along yet? You're so easy to convince, Crash.”

“I can just get out of the car and go back home, you know?” The younger girl arched one eyebrow, crossing her arms over her chest. It was no use, as the other laughed even harder.

“But you’re not going to do that.”

“You doubt it?”

“Uh-huh.” Trinity leaned closer, looking Victoria up and down. “By the way, I like your look. Is Dr. J. into fashion too?”

“Don’t play with me.”

“Never.” She replied too quickly. A connotation that the two preferred not to understand that way. “Anyway, have you seen what the city is like from above?”

------

It had been a long time since she had been able to stop like this and simply do nothing. She was sitting in the passenger seat of Trinity’s car, which was slightly reclined, so there was more room to sprawl out there.

The cool night breeze cut across her face, giving her slight shivers and at the same time calming her breathing. On the radio, the playlist that Santos made for her was playing, and she was humming softly. My God, how she loved hearing Trinity sing. It was something so sweet, so different from when she was at work, trying to manage the absurd number of patients arriving every hour.

“Just don’t fall asleep, sleepyhead.” Trinity joked before going back to drinking her strawberry milkshake.

Victoria turned her face to deflect the comment, but what she saw took the breath away from her lungs. Santos’ hair was half up, half down, some strands tracing the contour of her face. Her nose was a little red from the cold. Her lips were a little shiny from the milkshake. The dimple on her chin that simply drives Javadi crazy whenever it appears. Wow, that was fucking annoying.

“I’m just relaxing,” she retorted, going back to drinking her chocolate milkshake. She barely breathed before the words were basically expelled from her mouth, “Thank you, Trinity.”

The older woman turned her head, clearly confused, but something in her gaze softened and a shy smile appeared on her lips.

“You’re welcome. Thank you for keeping me company.”

“Always.”

Crude, too fast for her prodigious brain to keep up with what she was saying.

“You know, it’s been a while since I’ve been here.” Trinity looked ahead again, pointing to the view they had from the top of a parking garage of a building they definitely shouldn’t be in.

“How did you find this place?”

“One day I needed to clear my head and wasn’t really in the mood for human contact. I’ve been here a few times.”

“Then I’m desecrating your place.”

“I don’t care if the person is you.”

Victoria felt like when she decided to do a skiing maneuver in Utah, only a thousand times more overwhelming. Santos would kill her someday if he kept talking to her like that.

“Can I ask you a question?” The student began timidly, tucking a strand of hair that had come loose from her braids behind her ear.

“Go ahead.”

“You’ve liked a few people, romantically speaking, haven’t you?” She looked at Trinity, who just nodded. “Is it very different from falling in love?”

Trinity frowned, but Javadi didn’t feel judged; she seemed to be processing the question directed at her.

“I think falling in love is more devastating? I don’t know, you can just enjoy sleeping with someone, but you’re not necessarily in love with them.”

“That’s true.”

“More complex than falling in love is loving someone. You go crazy.” She gave one of those little laughs that Victoria already recognized as when the older woman didn't want to delve too deeply into the subject. "But why the question?"

"I've been feeling strange things lately. I can't quite put my finger on what it is."

"Wow, the little genius doesn't know the answer to something? I'm a little scared!"

"Seriously, Trini. I've never been interested in anyone, especially since I was in college very early, with people much older than me. But now that I've started working, I, I might have started experiencing certain things." She confessed she didn't understand why her heart felt like it was going to jump out of her chest. It was a normal conversation between friends.

"Are you talking about Mateo?"

"What? No! He's just my friend."

"I thought you had a crush on him at the beginning of your internship?"

"That was just a thing. He was one of the few people who didn't treat me like a prodigy, but like a normal girl."

“I understand. But, this person, the one you have these feelings for, works at Pitt?” Santos asked her, and Victoria felt hypnotized as she stared into those green eyes, her pupils so dilated she could barely see.

It was all so insane.

Trinity was staring at her as if she wanted to turn her inside out and find out everything about her. The heat she felt growing stronger in her body, and that damn jacket made the whole situation worse. Not to mention the other woman's scent, which was making her a little dizzy. Santos occupied the entire space effortlessly.

“Yes.” She whispered, closing her eyes in a mixture of shame and self-preservation. She didn't know what she would do being stared at so intently.

“Can I know who it is?”

“Trinity! I don't even know how to name what I feel, how am I going to tell you who it is?”

“Calm down, it's not that serious.”

“Urgh, you don't understand. It's too complicated for me to process this.”

“I have all the time in the world.”

She could die right there and then.

“You—you could help me understand the mechanics of all this?” She asked, squeezing her fingers in her milkshake, too afraid to look at her friend.

“Mechanics? What do you mean?” Trinity laughed loudly, feeling her diaphragm clench violently. “Ah! Crash, you’re so funny, you know?”

Victoria snorted again. She felt like an idiot, a complete idiot.

“You’ve liked a few girls, haven’t you?”

“Definitely.”

“Is it good?”

“Absolutely. I mean, it’s not so great when you get dumped or worse, you meet the worst demon called casual.”

“Like you and Garcia?”

“You’re very mean when you want to be, but thankfully I’m over it.”

Victoria raised an eyebrow, finally looking at Santos a little suspiciously. “Okay, then. What are the symptoms of being in love with someone?”

“Symptoms is great!” Trinity said, trying to stop laughing. She took a deep breath before turning back to face Victoria with a smile on her face. “Look, everyone can ‘feel’ it differently. Sometimes you can’t stop thinking about that person, everything you do or see reminds you of them. You get a pang in your heart when you’re not together, you feel kind of silly because of it all. Oh, I don’t know, Crash. Don’t you read fanfiction or anything?”

“No, I don’t.” She lied, feeling her cheeks heat up. Then she stopped and reflected on what Trinity had said.

“Javadi? Hey, Victoria? Earth calling Crash!”

“I think I’m in love.”

“You concluded that just from my little speech? I think I could make money off of that.”

“No, I—I’ve felt this way for a while, but I thought it was something else. It all makes more sense now.”

“You’re welcome.”

“What do I do now?”

“Well, if you think your feelings might be reciprocated, you should try talking to that person.” Santos advised, her voice a little shy.

“You think so?”

“Uh-huh.”

“She, that person is my friend. What if I get rejected?”

“If she likes you as a friend, it won’t affect your friendship that much. I think…”

“Okay.”

“Okay?” The resident looked at her confused, but soon felt as if her heart had skipped a beat. Javadi looked at her so sweetly, but at the same time with a determination of someone about to do something.

“Trinity.”

Her heart seemed to beat too loudly, louder than the sound coming from the radio. It was frightening.

“Hmm?”

“Stop me if you don’t like it.” Victoria whispered before running her fingers through Trinity’s soft hair and pulling her closer. “Please.” She couldn't say exactly who initiated the kiss, but she could certainly tell it was better than any she'd ever had before. She didn't want it to stop. It felt so good, Santos' hands gripping her waist, almost possessively. The slight sigh they both gave when the older girl deepened the kiss, brushing her tongue between Victoria's lips. She wanted to be closer, she wanted to merge with Santos and—

“Vic...” Trinity called, her lips still brushing against the younger girl's. The taste of the milkshakes mixed on her reddened lips.

“Hmm...”

“You have no idea how long I've wanted this.”

"Do it." She confessed, leaving a chaste kiss on Javadi's chin.

"I want to do it again. Please..."

"Oh, damn it. Come here." Trinity lightly slapped her thigh, making her eyes widen. "Don't play the prude, Crash. I know very well that you—"

"Okay, okay. Shut up." Victoria retorted as she settled incredibly quickly into Trinity's lap. It felt so good to be so close to her; she felt intoxicated by the scent. Her agile hands roamed over her back. "Trini."

"Shh. I’ve got you." She whispered in her ear before kissing the girl's soft lips again.

They could already feel the atmosphere heating up, so hot that Victoria thought she might melt if Santos continued to give small bites to her lips. She was desperate, she needed to take off that damn jacket, feel Trinity's hands caressing her arms.

And she did. She began to pull it off her body while her lips moved to kiss the resident's neck. Trinity let out small sighs each time she was bolder and left a bite or a lick near her collarbone.

"Crash..." She cried, letting the hands that had previously wandered down Javadi's back descend to her buttocks and squeeze possessively. This provoked a moan from Victoria directly in her ear, "You—you're quite bold, aren't you?"

"Don't deprive me of this, please." She pleaded, frustrated by the difficulty of removing the damn jacket from her arms.

Trinity apparently took pity on her and helped remove the garment, revealing Victoria's purple tank top clinging to her body.

"Oh, shit." She grumbled, firmly gripping the younger woman's hips and beginning to lightly bite her neck.

"Trinity. Ah! Trinity, stop teasing me!" Javadi shifted her legs to settle on just one of Santos's thighs, but before she could achieve her goal, she grabbed her, immobilizing her on top of her. "Trinity!"

"Breathe, kitten. I want it just as much as you do, but it's not at all romantic to have sex with you in the car."

Victoria's mind was already clouded. She just wanted to unleash all that she thought was anger into love.

"My parents won't be home to sleep. You'll sleep with me." She said it in a tone that was unexpectedly a little dominant, but she loved seeing her green eyes widen and her chubby cheeks turn even redder.

"Y-Yes, I will." Javadi smiled broadly before placing a kiss on the corner of her lips and returning to the passenger seat. "My legs are trembling."

"You can do it, Trinity." She laughed breathlessly, trying to calm himself down too. A little impossible since she could already feel the wetness taking over her panties.

"Okay, I can do it." She repeated, starting the car and turning around to get out of there and get to Victoria's house as quickly as possible.
