Work Text:
“Alright then,” Yumoto says and gets out of his chair, slinging his school bag over his shoulder. “Shall we go to Kurotama?”
The other Defence Club members agree half-heartedly. They gather their things as well, while Yumoto knocks on the door to the Student Council office. Without waiting for an answer he sticks his head in and asks them to come along.
Atsushi puts the book he's been reading into his bag and is about to join Yumoto when he notices that En hasn't moved a muscle from where his head is planted on the desk.
“En-chan? We're leaving,” he says as if he doesn't know that En is fast asleep.
Atsushi watches En breathe for a moment and can't help but chuckle quietly. He almost strokes a strand of hair out of En's face but quickly remembers where they are.
They haven't told their friends about their relationship yet so Atsushi is determined to keep things low-key.
So, instead of lovingly brushing aside some hair, Atsushi gently shakes En's shoulder. “En-chan, wake up. We're leaving.”
En still doesn't make any effort in waking up. Atsushi shakes him a little stronger. This time, En stirs and squeezes his eyes. “En-chan, come on,” Atsushi whispers and pushes his shoulder one last time.
Atsushi is about to step back when En's eyes —or rather one of his eyes—crack open. “Ah, good morning, Atsushi,” En mumbles drowsily.
Before Atsushi can stop him, En suddenly reaches out, grabs his arm and pulls him in. The lips on his mouth are gone again before he can even say, “Stop.”
“Arima, what are you doing?” a familiar voice yells and with a gasp Atsushi realises again where they are. At least En now has the decency to fully open his eyes and sit up as well. His only reaction when he takes in the situation is a quiet, “Oh.”
Atsushi is a little terrified to look at his friends but he knows he owes them at least that much.
The first thing he sees is Kinshirou struggling as Ibushi has his eyes covered with a hand. That explains his earlier outburst. Atsushi is grateful to Ibushi for wanting to cover for him , literally, but in the end Kinshirou is the one whose approval he wants most.
Next to the two of them stands Akoya. Both his eyes and his mouth form perfect Os. Atsushi is mildly impressed how even in a state of surprise the boy manages to look graceful.
Io is wearing a face that Atsushi can only describe as exhausted relief. The thought occurs to Atsushi that maybe he and En haven't been as subtle as they thought.
Atsushi's musing is interrupted by Yumoto loudly asking, “Ryuu-senpai? What's wrong?” Finally, Atsushi sees that Ryuu is covering Yumoto's eyes much like Ibushi did with Kinshirou. A quick glance at the latter tells Atsushi that he managed to free himself eventually.
Ryuu takes his hands off Yumoto now, too and instead rests one on his shoulders and ruffles the blond hair with the other. “Nothing, Yumoto. You're probably too young to understand.”
Yumoto huffs audibly and shakes Ryuu off. “I'm only a year younger than you. I'm not some baby!” he protests and crosses the room to leave. He turns back around though when his hand touches the door handle. “Oh, and Atsushi-senpai, En-chan-senpai, I'm glad you seem happy.” Then, he leaves.
Silence fills the room for several second. In the end it's broken by En saying, “Well, surprise !”
Atsushi turns to him incredulously. The mood feels even more awkward now than it did before.
They're all saved by Kinshirou. With a huff he fastens his bag on his shoulder and says, “It was hardly any surprise at all.”
With a small smile on his lips Atsushi watches as Kinshirou follows Yumoto outside.
Out of sight, En takes hold of one of Atsushi's fingers and strokes it lightly
