that butler, a father

Summary:

short stories (and story outlines), because i just want to give them kids

Notes:

three things: first, you may have already come across my stories because i also post them on tumblr, but considering how often i post, they usually get lost in the sea of content, and i’d like to preserve them somehow. second, i previously had one shared work for all my story prompts/outlines, but i decided to split them into separate works for angst/comfort/kids so that people don’t have to come across something they don’t like.

third: unlike the previous two works, this one takes place in a single, (hopefully) cohesive universe. it’s just presented more as a story outline rather than actually telling the story

Chapter Text

it would happen by accident. they wouldn’t even be a couple, but ciel would be given a substance acting like an aphrodisiac with amplified effects, and sebastian, as a good butler, would want to help his master. however, ciel, who still hadn’t gotten over the trauma of what he went through while being kidnapped, wouldn’t allow himself to be touched even by sebastian in that way, so the demon would let himself be taken instead. one night, the consequences of which would be unexpected.

demons do not care about their offspring. more than that, they don’t even want it, and being pregnant is both troublesome and problematic for them — it drains both their energy and consumes their power, making them weaker and more vulnerable to attacks. demons are not pack animals — they are loners who have to fight for themselves, because a moment of weakness can end their life.

that is why demons are born rarely, and why demonic embryos from the very first moments display protective behaviors that deceive the carrier, remaining undetectable until they root themselves in the host’s body strongly enough to become impossible to remove. it’s not that sebastian wouldn’t feel side effects — an increased appetite that at times almost made him salivate at the thought of devouring a soul, but he explained that to himself as simply a long period of starvation, or a feeling of reduced strength, which he blamed on multiple injuries from a reaper’s scythe.

only during an accidental meeting with another demon during their mission would he become aware of what was happening in his body, and by then it would already be too late for any action. ciel wouldn’t understand what was going on, why at the words “i don’t know whether you being out here is bravery or stupidity” sebastian’s eyes widened, after which he grabbed him and fled back to the estate as quickly as possible, nor why, moments after crossing the threshold, sebastian pierced himself with his own hand. or at least tried to, because his hand failed to go all the way through, stopping as if against an invisible wall in his stomach.

sebastian himself would be in such shock that he would apologize to his master, but would flee from his sight before he could say anything, not showing himself for the entire day. he needed to analyze the situation and try to find a way out. him? carrying offspring? though “offspring” was saying too much — a demonic pregnancy resembled parasitism more than the most beautiful period of life growing within another.

he would appear before ciel after a day of absence as if nothing had happened, avoiding answering what had occurred, and when ciel ordered him to explain everything, he would threaten that either the order would be withdrawn or they would break their contract on the spot, because he had no intention of explaining himself in any way.

it had never happened before for sebastian to question his order, but apparently whatever had happened was so traumatizing for him that he would rather give up the meal he had been preparing for years than reveal the truth. ciel, still remembering what had happened between his parents’ death and forming the contract with sebastian, and not wanting to talk about it with anyone, would feel even a bit of sympathy for the demon, thinking that his secrecy created a kind of mutual understanding between them.

demons do not form attachments to their children, so once they are brought into the world, they are abandoned and left to fend for themselves, and only a handful of the strongest survive. unfortunatelly for him, after they are conceived and grow enough, removing them is equivalent to the host’s death, because their organs are connected. what’s worse, sebastian cannot even significantly alter his body, because it would endanger them, so the toxins they produce effectively prevent any transformation. sebastian spent the entire night, but found no solution that would allow him to get out of this situation. his greed and belief in his own infallibility had finally come back to haunt him.

but sebastian would begin to change over time. he would be less composed. he would never strike ciel or any of the servants, but he seemed to lose patience with them, allowing the mask of the perfect butler to slip at times, throwing unfriendly remarks their way. he had days when he clearly didn’t want to perform his duties, even though before that had been his priority. he became less attentive and more preoccupied with his own thoughts. sometimes he would break a plate while taking it out of the cupboard, mistake salt for sugar, or fail to respond even after being called several times. once, it even happened that he was so weak he asked ciel for a day of rest — which shocked him so much that he began rummaging through his home library for any books about demons, searching for information about what their end looked like. everyone thought sebastian was ill and asked ciel to call a doctor for him.

sebastian himself would catch himself doing things he had never done before. when he cleaned ciel’s wardrobe, wanting to get rid of clothes that were already too small (surprisingly, even he had grown over those few years together), the thought would cross his mind: “maybe they’ll still be useful.” subconsciously, when among crowds, he would shield his stomach with one hand. when ironing a newspaper for ciel and his gaze fell on a name, he would repeat it several times, testing how it sounded in his mouth. when his master once again told him to toss a coin into some charity for children or to buy an orange from a girl standing on the platform, he would smile, even if he knew ciel’s intentions weren’t sincere.

over time, he would begin to like the idea of having a child. he would even manage to sacrifice himself, sneaking away from time to time and devouring a random soul, no matter how much he disliked it, just to have enough strength so the children wouldn’t kill the three of them.

sebastian tells himself that his behavior is the result of functioning in a human body for too long. once he gives birth and takes on his demonic form, he will be like new. however, one problem remains — what to tell ciel, because his current state significantly affects his defensive abilities, and he won’t be able to hide it forever.
