“No Nerys, you don’t understand! This is going to be the biggest party I’ve ever thrown, you have to come.” Jadzia Dax pleaded, staring intently into the major’s deep brown eyes. She pouted her lip in an attempt to gain pity from her friend.
“Stop giving me that look.” Major Kira sighed, “You know I don’t like big parties, especially with a whole group of people I don’t even know! Plus it’s in a holosuite, why would I want to go to a holosuite party?” She raised her hands in exasperation, illustrating her point.
“So you hate me.”
“No I don’t.”
“Then come! There will be people you know there, hell, half the senior staff is coming!”
“You’re still not convincing me.”
Jadzia paused and considered her options, “Everyone gets a plus one, you could bring your fancy vedek boyfriend.” The trill moved in closer and gave the major a sly look.
Kira, now feeling slightly trapped between Jadzia and the wall, gave her a slight playful shove, “You know as well as I do that me and Shakaar broke things off months ago.” She halted, a wave of curiosity washing over her. “Who is everyone bringing as their plus one?”
“Leeta is bringing Rom, Quark is bringing a dabo girl I believe, Morn is brining his girlfriend of the week, Jake and Ziyal are coming together, Worf’s coming alone…” Jadzia rubbed her hand on her forehead as if to remember the statuses of the partygoers. “Ben, Miles, and Odo aren’t coming, they said it wasn’t their scene. Oh! Julian convinced Garak to be his plus one.”
Kira made an expression that was halfway between a laugh and a gag, “Oh hell no, if Julian and Garak are coming together there’s no way you can get me to go.”
“Why?!” Jadzia chuckled and feigned shock, she was now in the major’s space again.
“Prophets, you know why. They’ve got this weird sexual tension whenever they’re in the same room together. It’s insanely uncomfortable to be around.” Kira once again tried to evade Jadzia entering her personal space, but when she took a step back her heel hit the wall. Normally she would be fine, even enthusiastic, with the beautiful Trill getting all up in her space, but they were on the second level of the replimat in an area open to about half the promenade and Kira typically wasn’t a fan of PDA.
“Oh come on, you won’t even know they’re there.” Jadzia took their closeness to her advantage and took the major’s hand in hers. She leaned in, her breath tickling Kira’s ear and nose nudging against her earring, “Please come Nerys, for me?”
Kira breathed. Prophets help her, this woman was hard to resist.
“...fine.”
“Just fine?”
“Yes Jadzia, I’ll come to your party.”
Jadzia instantly brightened up, “I knew you’d say yes!” She enthusiastically kissed the bajoran’s cheek, “You’re going to have so much fun!”
If anything, coming to the party was worth it just to see that delighted look in Jadzia’s eyes. Kira chuckled, surging up and giving Jadzia a peck on the lips, PDA be damned. “I’ll come, so long as you promise me a nice calm, quiet dinner tonight.”
“I think I can agree to those terms.” Jadzia smirked, still holding Kira’s hand.
As the two women started walking down the replimat hand in hand, Jadzia stopped abruptly. “Oh one more thing, it’s technically not me that’s hosting the party.”
“Then who is?”

“Jackson Wang?!”
Julian gaped, staring at the holographic host. Kira stood beside him, she had no idea who Jackson Wang was and why the doctor seemed to be so shocked by him hosting Jadzia’s holosuite party.
“Yes it’s me, 21st century rapper, singer, and songwriter Jackson Wang.” The holographic man in front of them said back to them confidently. “Welcome to my party! Make yourselves at home, there’s drinks on the table over there.” He pointed.
Julian still stood with his mouth hanging open.
Garak was on the other side of him hanging on to his arm. “Well my dear doctor,” he started in that indecipherable tone he always used, “while you’re here gawking at our host, I believe I’ll take up his offer and get us drinks.” He patted Julian’s arm fondly and turned to Kira, “Major, would you like me to get you a bajoran ale?”
Kira hesitated, but obliged, “Yes Garak, that would be great.”
The Cardassian gave a polite nod to Kira and set off in the direction of the drinks table.
Kira turned to Julian and whispered to him, “Stop staring, doctor.”
That seemed to knock Julian out of it. He laughed, “I just can’t believe I’m at a Jackson Wang party! He was huge in the pop music genre in the 21st century! He was so unique he created his own genre called ‘Jackson-pop.’”
Kira looked between Julian and their, apparently famous, host (who had become distracted by another guest coming up to him) and said almost sarcastically, “I didn’t know you were a ‘Jackson-pop’ fan?”
“Well not exactly,” the doctor fidgeted with his fingers, cracking his knobbly knuckles, “I’m just very interested in 20th and 21st century music and I like researching artists and singers—”
“How are we all doing?” Julian was interrupted by Jadzia swinging in, slotting her arm into Jackson Wang’s arm, bringing his attention back to the group.
“Doing great Jadzia, how did you get the idea of a holosuite party hosted by the Jackson Wang?” Julian asked.
“Well I was doing some research on 21st century literature and in a lot of them they mentioned a ‘Jackson Wang’ hosting parties, and well, here we are.” She responded cheerfully.
By now Garak had returned with their drinks. “Here you go, Major,” he handed Kira her bajoran ale, which she accepted gratefully. He held a kanar for himself and sipped it, his other hand snaking its way back to Julian’s arm.
“You didn’t get me a drink?” Julian complained.
“I only have two hands, and I had to carry the Major’s drink after all. And, you didn’t ask my dear Doctor.” Garak responded, looking at Julian over the rim of his glass. Kira didn’t like the look in his eyes, the uncomfortable flirting between the two had begun.
“Garak! After all this time I’d think you’d know me well enough to know I’d want a drink.”
“Doctor, maybe I didn’t get you a drink because I know how you get when you’re drunk.”
“What do you mean, I’m a fun drunk!”
“I believe Chief O’Brien would disagree.”
Julian halted, “Oh come on Garak.” He huffed, “Just because Miles had to comm you to come get me that one time—”
“‘One time?’ My dear, it’s been many. You get one too many drinks in and you become…clingy, if you will.” The Cardassian took a moment to sip his kanar, a sly smile gracing his lips. “Of course I never mind your…clinginess…it’s always a treat to be warmed by your human metabolism, but it becomes irritating to deal with you drunk like that at a party like this.”
Julian went to speak, but closed his mouth in thought, “...I…I can’t argue with that. Would you be adverse to me being ‘clingy’ in private?”
“Hmm Doctor, that’s an interesting question.” Garak answered, his sly smile still remaining. He still held on to Julian’s arm, but it seemed as if they had gotten especially close during the conversation and were almost chest to chest. They both stood staring intently into each other’s eyes.
Kira, Jadzia, and their host had been standing and watching the heated conversation. Kira wanted to throw herself out the closest airlock, the cold emptiness of space would be more enjoyable than watching whatever she had just witnessed. She downed the rest of her bajoran ale, maybe that would help her forget this entire interaction.
“Well!” Jadzia chimed in, “Nerys, why don’t you join me on the dance floor? I’m sure Julian and Garak have some things to work through, and Mr. Wang,” She turned to the holographic host and smiled, “I’m sure you have other guests to greet.”
As Jackson Wang nodded and turned off to see to his guests, Jadzia held her hand out to Kira. She accepted it gratefully and let out a startled laugh as Jadzia quickly jerked her along with.
They neared the dance floor and Kira let out a sigh of relief. She leaned close to Jadzia and whispered, “I told you, I fucking told you that Garak and Julian would start being weird if they came here together!”
Jadzia just laughed, still pulling the two of them onto the dance floor, “Oh come on it wasn’t that bad.”
“Jadzia, they were practically undressing each other with their eyes.” Kira huffed. They now swayed slightly together on the dance floor as the music shifted to something more slow. Kira’s arms rested on Jadzia’s waist while the Trill wrapped her arms around Kira’s neck and shoulders.
“Let’s just forget them for a bit, huh?”
“Prophets, I don’t think I can.”
Jadzia leaned in and kissed Kira, pulling back just before it turned into something more. “How about now?”
Kira felt her face flush and pursed her lips. She giggled, “Yeah, I think I can forget all about it.”
“Good, now can we enjoy this dance?”
“Hmm I think so,” Kira responded as Jadzia practically swept her off her feet to keep dancing.

They danced to the music for what seemed like hours, to the point that people were filtering out of the holosuite and even the holograms were starting to retire. Kira’s feet ached from her heels, her chest was sore from laughing, and her legs were strained from dancing. Jadzia seemed to be able to sense that her beautiful date was beginning to tire so she led her to a table near the back of the party by a curtain. As Kira went to sit, Jadzia swept her over to sit on her lap and the bajoran’s face wasn’t only flushed from the dancing.
“Jadz, there are people around.” Kira whispered, a slight giggle behind her voice.
“Most of the real people are gone, it’s mostly holograms, and we’re at a back table.” Jadzia whispered into her ear. Her hands settled on Kira’s hips and pulled her closer so that her own chest was pressed to her back. The Trill’s hand ghosted its way from Kira’s hip up to her jaw to tilt her head. Their breath mixed, their lips were so close, Kira just needed to close the distance…
All of a sudden the two women were distracted by noises coming from behind the curtain next to them. Kira and Jadzia glanced at each other before curiosity got the better of them. They were giddy and tried not to giggle as they got up, Kira almost tripping over Jadzia’s dress. Kira leaned toward the curtain to take a peak and was horrified by what she saw.
It was Julian and Garak in a…compromising position.
Kira slapped her hand over her mouth in dread and practically ran towards the exit of the party. Jadzia followed, laughing so hard the entire party could probably hear as she shouted after Kira.
They were out of the holosuite and Kira was still walking. Jadzia had caught up by then and stopped the distraught major by grabbing her shoulder. Of course the woman was still laughing, of course she was.
“Kira, wait!” Jadzia managed to get out between chuckles.
“I fucking told you!!”
“Ok ok, we saw something embarrassing. They didn’t see us! We don’t ever have to mention it.”
“You’d better not mention it.”
“I won’t!”
“I don’t believe you.”
“Ok maybe I’ll tease Julian about it, but that’s it!”
“You’re insufferable!” Kira practically growled and kept stomping away.
The damn woman was still laughing! And that same damn woman was still trailing after her. “Oh come on, you love me!”
“Pfft, doubt that.”
They reached the turbo lift and Kira angrily tapped the button to open it. Once they were inside, Kira didn’t acknowledge Jadzia and huffed, “Habitat ring level six.”
A smug look appeared on Jadzia’s face. She waited a few seconds before saying anything, “If you’re so upset, why are we headed to the habitat ring my quarters are located on?”
Kira also waited a few seconds. Staring intently at the wall, she grumbled, “Because I still want to have sex with you, dammit, and I’m not letting seeing my coworker and my tailor like that stop me.”
Jadzia didn’t say anything, but Kira could see her grin out of the peripheral vision.
The turbolift dinged as it reached habitat ring six. Jadzia offered her hand to Kira, and Kira took it without reluctance.

By the end of the night, Kira had forgotten all about the evening’s happenings and why she was even mad in the first place.
