April Fool's! | A MagicTricks fanfic

Summary:

It's Banana Peel's favorite day, April Fool's, and he pranks people until he pranks Artful. Yeah idk man. (Almost) Everything will be labeled with the Citrus Scale.

Notes:

I LIED the fic doesn't take place on just April Fool's. This started as a short comic I never finished but then this happened. It's also based on a roleplay I did one time but WE DON'T TALK ABOUT THAT! Banana Peel gets referred to as Banana a lot, cuz who calls people by their full name??? Also all the civilians live together, so that makes Banana less avoidable.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Chapter 1: April Fool's! 🍊

Chapter Text

It was a bright morning as Banana Peel went to change the date on his calendar. Like every other day, he ripped the paper to the correct date, but this time, it WASN'T any other day! It was April 1st, the best day of the year! Banana instantly knew what he had to do.

No one was safe that day. Revolver walked into the tape trap that Banana set up, cursing and trying unsuccessfully to get the tape off. Caretaker, despite wisely trying to stay away from Banana this year, got covered in feathers due to opening a door attached to a fan with the feathers in front of it (it's that one Home Alone trap, please understand what I mean). Not even Taunt, his best friend, was safe. Banana had placed a water bucket above the door to his room. Banana went on pranking everybody for the next 2-3 hours, until, eventually, there was just one left to prank.

“And now, for the moment you've all been waiting for” Banana remarked to himself. Every year, Banana pranked everyone, and then set up a huge prank to play on his greatest rival, Artful, which was his favorite part of the day. Banana figured that Artful probably already knows all of his tricks, but this time, he had a new one. Banana walked up to Artful, who muttered “Beurk, pas lui.” (Ugh, not him) Under his breath as soon as he saw Banana.

“I'm not falling for anything this time, Banana.” Artful said. “I know better than to accept any interaction with you. I know you're about to pull some stunt that will leave me humiliated. This year, I'm keeping a shred of my dignity and-” “Well, that's the thing.” Banana interrupted. "I've decided not to prank you this year." Artful narrowed his eyes. Banana isn't pranking him? Oh please. Hell would freeze over first. But Banana, for once, looked semi-serious. “I've realized that my pranks are immature, and even cruel. I've decided that I don't want to do them anymore.” Banana handed a card to him. Artful had a feeling that this wasn't a genuine resignation to pranks, since he'd seen Banana's onslaught of pranks earlier, but what was the worse a card could do?

The card was purple, with “I'm Sorry!” Handwritten over the original message, “You're Purr-fect for me!”, presumably originally being a Valentine's Day card. It felt almost ironic. Artful opened the card, and as soon as he opened it, an overly annoying song started playing. “Nothing'll work to turn that off by the way,” Banana commented “I got one of those from Taunt once, not even water will stop it.” But something felt off. This felt oddly small for one of Banana's pranks. There had to be more to it, besides the fact that something hard to clean up was definitely hidden in the card.

“I'm sure burning it will turn it off.” Artful stated, matter-of-factly. “Ya sure you don't want to try anything else, Artsy?” Banana asked. Artful hated that stupid name that Banana called him. Banana was definitely trying to piss him off. Artful knew that if he didn't react to it, Banana would get bored and leave him alone. He had other things to do anyway. Artful turned to walk away, and as he was leaving, he slipped, and fell to the ground. It didn't take a genius to figure out what it was. He looked, and just as he suspected, it was a banana peel. Banana's obnoxious laugh filled the air. Of course he found this funny. Artful got up, and continued to walk away, until he walked into a tape trap.

Banana laughed even harder at this sight. Artful couldn't stand the headache-inducing sound. Artful slowly started to get himself out of the trap, which was getting almost impossible with that annoying ass laugh. Eventually, he got out of the trap, but this time, he wasn't walking away. No, Banana was gonna pay for this. Artful decided to pull a prank of his own. “C'était plutôt astucieux de ta part, Banana” (That was quite clever of you, Banana) Artful remarked, almost impressed. “Wha- huh?” Banana was confused. Why wasn't he getting angry??? “You've gotten quite creative with these, you're even combining them!” Artful said in a congratulatory tone.

Banana backed away slightly. It was strange hearing Artful say almost kind things to him. Something felt off, as if Artful was gonna attack. Then suddenly, Artful approached him. Banana backed away more, hitting the wall, hard. Banana got slightly worried. If Artful attacked, Banana was fucked. He couldn't escape. It was game over. But instead of attacking, Artful placed his forearm next to Banana's face, and spoke almost softly to him. “It's a real shame, you know.” he remarked. “Such talent could easily be used for greatness.” Banana had no idea how to reply.

The closeness was almost suffocating, but weirdly enough, for whatever reason, Banana wanted it to stay. Everything was getting hot, which Banana chose to blame on a heatwave. Artful got closer, and began to caress Banana's skin, which made Banana feel a strange feeling. He realized what it was, but didn't want it to be true. Artful got even closer and it made the feeling stronger. They were inches away from each other now. It was almost tantalizing, considering how bad Banana wanted Artful right now.

Artful pulled away. "April Fool's! You probably have nothing great in your future anyway." Artful then walked away, leaving Banana on the wall, wondering what just happened.
