Muriel did not expect that running a bookshop would be quite so… uneventful.
To their dismay, customers seem to stay away from Aziraphale’s shop. It’s as if the building is hidden away from the rest of London. Even when Muriel holds events, or puts a flashing neon open sign in the window, or quite literally stands in the doorway waving in hopes someone will approach, people just… stay away.
The next time Crowley visits, Muriel shows him this curious problem.
“I found a clue!” Muriel says, as they look out of the bookshop window together, “Look! As soon as someone starts to come towards the bookshop, they stop, and turn around, as if they’ve completely forgotten they ever wanted to come inside!”
Crowley stares silently out into the street for a moment. Then he makes an odd noise in his throat, and a smile twitches on his lips.
“Oh, that’s normal.” He mutters, “Super normal human behaviour. Nothing out of the ordinary.”
“But this is a disaster!” Muriel whines. “The Supreme Archangel will be so disappointed that I haven’t sold a single book!”
Crowley ruffles Muriel’s hair.
“I’m sure he’ll find it in his heart to forgive you.” Crowley chuckles.
In the months since Aziraphale returned to Heaven, Muriel has never seen Crowley so joyful. Really, they think, being on Earth is so very confusing!
