Chapter Text
"Hey there, kitty kitty,” Gojo said with an amused smirk. “Go home already—stop slumming around in this dark alley.”
The mysterious black cat approached Gojo, as usual. Gojo took off his sunglasses, feeling a drop of water fall on him from above. The news had reported that a huge three-day storm was approaching. Everyone in Shibuya was rushing around the city to stock up on food, water, and other necessities.
Gojo sighed. He couldn’t leave this cat outside for such a huge storm…
“Pspsps, c’mere, kitty.”
The black cat’s ears perked up in curiosity, along with its tail. Gojo grinned as he approached the cat and picked it up. He unzipped his jacket, placing the stray inside before zipping it back up. The cat purred inside the jacket, making its way to Gojo’s neck.
Gojo petted the cat’s ears as he took it back to his place.
Gojo turned on a light, revealing a small kitchen area with a two-person table. There was a homey vibe—it was obvious Gojo loved this place dearly. Just a bit further in was a small living room; a TV sat atop a stand with a low tea table in front of it, along with a few cushions to sit on.
In another room, there was a simple floor bed and a few more cozy decorations. A small bathroom was attached to the bedroom. It was clear that this little apartment was meant for one person.
The stray black cat began to explore, padding around the apartment. Gojo walked off to the bathroom and took off his sunglasses, wondering why he had even decided to take in an animal when he was already struggling to take care of himself.
Gojo never really had financial problems, family issues, or even trouble socially—he had always just struggled to care for his own health and needs.
As Gojo tiredly rubbed his eyes and stared at himself in the bathroom mirror, the black cat wandered in to find him. While he silently scolded himself, he suddenly felt something warm and fluffy brush against his lower leg.
Gojo sighed. That dirty black cat was already leaving a mess behind with its muddy paws.
He bent down and picked the cat up into his arms, its ears twitching curiously. Gojo chuckled softly as he cradled it and carried it back to the kitchen.
Gojo set the black cat down on the counter and rummaged through his cabinets. After a moment, he found a can of tuna and grinned to himself.
He opened it and poured the contents onto a plate, setting it down for the cat. Gojo watched with quiet fascination as the cat ate happily, struck by how trusting it was.
As the cat devoured its food, Gojo couldn’t help but wonder what to call it.
He reached out and gently scratched behind its ears. The cat began to purr as it continued eating. Gojo paused for a moment, thinking, before calling out, “John?”
The cat didn’t react at all.
Gojo chuckled softly. John would be a cute name, but it didn’t seem to care for it.
“What gender are you, anyway, little guy?” Gojo murmured. He carefully lifted the cat’s tail, confirming it was male.
Gojo grinned, letting out a quiet laugh as he continued to pet his new cat.
Gojo let go of the cat’s tail, letting it fall back into place. He lightly ruffled the cat’s fur, making the cat glare at him. Gojo grinned, noting the cat’s gold and brown eyes. He tried another name, wondering if this one might get the cat’s attention.
“Uhm… what about Monkey?”
The cat glared at Gojo, flicking his tail in annoyance and looking away. Gojo chuckled as the cat’s ears flattened against his head.
“Alright, no Monkey…” Gojo said softly—although he would definitely keep it as a nickname, considering how dirty the cat was.
Gojo suddenly remembered just how dirty the cat actually was. He picked the cat up and carried him to the bathroom. Turning on the bathtub faucet, he shut the door behind them. The cat looked up at Gojo curiously as the tub began to fill with water.
As the water rose, Gojo rolled up his sleeves and ran a hand through his hair. He gently picked the cat up and placed him in the water. Despite the cat’s hissing and meowing, Gojo managed to wash him off after what felt like an eternity.
Once the cat was clean, Gojo wrapped him in a fluffy towel and held him in his arms. “Such a good boy—good kitty…” Gojo praised as he put a black cat collar on the cat.
With every passing second, Gojo found himself growing more protective and affectionate toward the cat. He was only supposed to keep him during the huge three-day storm—he couldn’t get too attached, he thought.
Gojo continued drying the cat, which eventually led to the little animal falling asleep in his arms, purring adorably. Not wanting to wake the poor, tired cat, Gojo lay down on his bed, holding him close, and soon fell asleep as well.
