Chapter Text
"We got the gig!" Gem yelled excitedly from across the kitchen.
Me and Impulse looked over at Gem, replicating the same joy she had.
"Really?!" I shouted.
"No, I'm totally lying." Gem said sarcastically. "Of course we made it! We are headed to the Mooncrest festival next month!"
We had been trying to gain a spot at the Mooncrest festival for years. It was a gig that showed you'd made it as a musician. Now we had finally made it. We all let out squeals of happiness that we would never admit to making later.
"Wait so we only have a month to prepare?" Impulse questioned.
The room went quiet for a moment.
"Yeah, but a month is totally enough time to prepare. I'm sure we'll be fine." Gem shrugged off the issue.
"Well we better get to planning our set list then." I tried to change the subject slightly.
Gem and Impulse both nodded in agreement.
After a couple of hours of debating (and a snack break) we had decided we'd play our two most popular then a couple we collectively voted on to match the vibe of a music festival.
"So what time do we go on?" I asked.
Gem looked down at her phone to check the email she had been sent by the coordinators. "Well it says we go on at about seven, and we have until eight to be off the stage for the next act."
"Whose playing after us?" Impulse asked.
"Says here some boy band named the bad boys."
I let out a laugh. "What kind of a name is that?"
"Say what you want about it, but they probably sell tons of merch to parasocial fangirls." Gem said.
"Yeah true. You still won't catch me listening to their music. It's probably all sappy love songs." Impulse said.
"You say that like we haven't also written sappy love songs." I said, playfully elbowing him in the arm.
"Yeah but we don't release most of them. We only release the upbeat ones." He said back.
I giggled. "Yeah I guess that's true."
"What time is it?" Gem asked, breaking up the conversation.
"It's like six thirty." Impulse said.
"We can order in some food while we plan for the rest of the show." I suggested.
"Great idea!" Gem said, pulling up the dashdoor app on her phone.

"Well boys we got in!" Joel shouted.
"Yes! Finally!" Grian yelled from his spot on the beaten up couch that we got at a yard sale when we moved in.
"We've made it!" I shouted from my spot next to Grian.
"I say we celebrate with a movie night!" Joel declared.
Grian laughed. "You really do find any reason to watch fast and the furious don't you?"
"Well, what can I say they are the greatest films ever made." He said, walking over to the couch that barely fit all three of us.
The small apartment we shared wasn't the most glamorous, but we made it work. We rotated who had to sleep on the couch and floor and who got to sleep in the small twin bed. All the furniture was second hand, although with how old some of it was it was probably owned more then twice.
"Can we watch a movie other then fast and furious tonight?" I asked.
"Oh yeah sure there's tons of options. We can watch any of the nine squeals you want. I'm not particularly picky." Joel said.
Me and Grian both giggled at that.
"Before we watch any movies we should probably figure more out about what we are doing at the festival." Grian said.
Joel sighed. "Finnnnneeeee. What time do we go on?"
"It says here that we go on about eight forty five after Gem and the Scotts."
"Gem and the Scotts?" I questioned.
"Yeah I've never heard of them, but that doesn't matter. All that matters is that they get off stage in time for the best act of the night." Joel said.
"Yeah well we'll also have to watch our run time. We aren't even close to the last act of the night. There's bands that aren't set to go on until like four am." Grian chimed in.
"Dang that's super late, or early I guess." I said.
"Yeah we won't be awake to hear them play. I'm going to bed right after we perform. Bass playing is tiring work." Joel said.
"You should probably clean your bass super well before we perform. You know, to make it look slightly less like a guitar we stole from your uncle's shed." I said.
"Nah, that look gives it its charm." Joel said. "So what movie are we watching tonight boys?"
"We can watch the third one. I haven't seen that one in a while." Grian said.
"The third one it is!"
After the movie we decided to order in some food and gameplan. We thought about writing a new song just to release it at the festival. A few ideas went around and we decided to go with more of a party style song to fit the festival. Then we realized how many songs we had that didn't really fit a festival, however we found a few that would work.
"Uggghhh, why does festival planning have to be so much work? We don't usually put this much work into our other gigs." Joel complained.
"Because this isn't a normal gig. This is our chance to make it big time. Do you know how many low level bands become the next big thing after performing at this festival? We have to be at our best" Grian said.
Joel sighed. "Jimmy, do you at least agree with me about this much planning being excessive?"
"No. I think Grian is right. This is our chance to be the greatest band ever created." I said.
Grian giggled. "I wouldn't say the greatest ever, but one of the best for sure."
"Well I say we take a break because it's nine o'clock and while I'd love to stay talking about this, Grian has work tomorrow and his salary is paying our rent when we don't have gigs and I don't wanna move back in with my parents." Joel said.
"You just don't wanna have to deal with my planning anymore don't you?" Grian asked slyly.
"Two things can be true at once." Joel shrugged.
Me and Grian laughed. "Fine, I'll head off to bed then. Goodnight."
"Goodnight." Me and Joel said in unison.
