Chapter Text

Since before he could talk, Kurapika always had a strong sense of justice. The time he lent to his studies in the Kurtan Library were the building blocks to his morality, as with most children. His encounters with the world outside dumped gasoline all over his meticulous wooden tower. The massacre lit a match.

Since the day he saw his brethren slain and mutilated, a disgusting rage burned in his heart. To feel such fury take control, the very last scarlet eyes set ablaze, it was filthy. It was the same hole burned through the skulls of everyone he had ever known as they watched their family be tortured. It was this righteous, swelling flame of justice that led him down his path, that carved his mark in the bark of society and scratched out the Phantom Troupe's.

Since the day she fled on her own, y/n held no ill will towards those criminals. Being mad wouldn't change the fact that they were dead. Being mad wouldn't put those animals in jail. Being mad most definitely would not make her feel better. As much as she wanted to get fired up about it, be the change she wanted to see in the world, it was futile. They were dead. Nothing could quite change that. Besides, the more in control her emotions were, the less likely she would slip up.

The hotel room was the largest available. For a high-profile, secretive family, they sure couldn't give up luxury for safety. She knocked on the solid wooden door thrice. Soon after, a small bald-headed woman peeked out through the crack. She blinked up at her for a second. The door shut, the chain clicked, and the door swung wide open. Her patient, Neon Nostrade, sat in the middle of the biggest hospital bed money could buy. "HIIIIII!" She squealed at y/n, stretching out her arms and grabbing with her hands. She moved to sit at her side, unsure how to feel about the girly-girl action. The bald woman stood politely to the side, hands shyly clasped at her front. "I've missed you soooo much y/n! I'm so glad we can finally go on a mission together!" she clutched her blanket in excitement and kicked her feet slightly. As a battle healer, many wealthy families requested her service whether that be for their employees or, like Neon, themself and their families. The Nostrades weren't all that bad after all.

She shook her h/c hair out of her face as she shook your head. "My apologies," She said to the woman. "I forgot to introduce myself. My name is y/n, professional battle healer. And you are?" She cocked her head at the mousy woman. She wasn't entirely bald, just the top of her head. The coarse, grey hair that grew around the sides was pulled over her shoulders, almost scarf-like.

"Melody," She said, her voice soft and... well... melodic. "It's nice to meet you y/n. We have another that should be meeting us soon. I will warn you, he can be a bit... standoffish at times. Try not to take it personally, he's like that with just about everyone."

Neon placed her hand on top of y/n's. "He's a little scary. A little handsome too." She grinned.
