The Gift of a Second Dawn

Summary:

After the war, the world mourns Severus Snape as a fallen hero, immortalized in stone. Hermione Granger visits his statue not out of obligation, but because of a secret they once shared—something fragile, hidden, and unfinished.

Their relationship had existed in stolen moments before the end, unspoken yet undeniable. His death was supposed to be the end of it.

But magic is not always final.

When Hermione returns one day, the impossible happens: the man she buried is alive. Broken, hidden, and never meant to survive, Snape exists in the shadows of a world that believes him gone.

Bound by their past and the truth only they share, Hermione becomes his only connection to life beyond survival. And as he struggles with guilt, secrecy, and the weight of who he was, she offers him something he never believed he deserved—a future.

In a life he was never meant to have, Hermione is not just his past.
She is the one he chooses—now, and in every life he never thought he’d live.

Chapter 1:Where Stone Breathes

Hermione Granger did not believe in ghosts.

And yet, she came here anyway.

The path to his statue was one she knew by heart now—worn stone beneath her steps, the hush of the air too heavy for a place meant to honor the dead. They had carved him perfectly. Too perfectly. Cold, still, untouchable.

She stopped a few steps away, as she always did.

“Hello, Professor.”

The words felt foolish every time. Still, she said them.

Because once—before the war had ended, before the world had taken him—he had answered her.

Answered her by all the  names she called him by over the years , for her he was sevurus, sev, uncle seviee in her first year, babe when she taunted him to get sassy replies out of him

All of the times she called him, he answered

Hot tears fell down her cheeks, sobbing she fell down, holding  the bench as her body shook looking for support, her eyes focused on snapes marble shoulder , where a raven landed on it,

It was her pet raven ‘Onyx’

Severus had gifted her the raven after a fight years ago, as an apology

‘’ why cant you come back why, you promised me sev, I even gave you the antivenom , I don’t understand why didn’t you come back, they all survived , but you had to go back and leave me alone ‘’

while she kept screaming ,crying, recalling , the stone cracked , she didn’t hear it,onyx jumped to the bench ,purple lights erupting , rocks falling , skin appearing

the ground did its own waltz , the sounds got louder as big pieces of the statue fell

that woke hemione out of her blurriness, ‘’ whattt the…’’

suddenly she was pushed back by a gust of wind and rubble

· ─────── · 𓅪 · ─────── · ·

Her ears whistled ,her eyes were fixed on the stones , all now looked like a puddle of an abounded muggle construction site

‘’ he’s gone , nooo god no’’ she scrambled over , holding  the sand and what was left of her beloveds statute

The ground made a crunch under the weight of two large black boots.

“ her..hermione” the raspy voice called

She stilled, her gaze went from his feet to his pale face, how that beautiful pale face tormented her

There stood Severus snape in all his glory , after five whole months from the day she lost him

“ you died!, it can’t be , you’re gone , its just one of my dreams I know it , I must be imagining , I need a calming potion before I lose my shit”

Snape began to move ,thinking to himself , there’s my girl with her colorful language , he felt tired, he felt alive but worn down , he called her again trying to step forward

“ sweetheart its me, look at me Hermione , even hell and heaven sent me back to you” his voice broke in whispers as his neck started bleeding  , the very same spot she had her hand on to stop him from dying months ago , she kept watching crying silently and scared  that he might disappear into a stream of light and she would find herself awake in her room

“ am hearing things sev , look at me ,I am a mess, am losing my mind “ he moved another step watching her talk like he didn’t stand in front of her, Hermione moved back screaming and started to scratch her eyes so hard she left red marks all over her face

He was stunned , the hurt he had caused even as a dead man, but he wasn’t a dead man now was he?

He took a long stride ,summoning all of his powers , he felt weak from the blood dripping out of his wound but he had to try , she cant think am gone , am back , I came back for her she must touch me and feel my warmth to know it, doesn’t she want me?

His self-loathing fought with his heart

“ miss granger !!!” he shouted , his vocal cords hurt but he had to use his old trick on her

“ Severus ?” she touched his leg , warm and hard under her hands , and very much so alive as he clinched it so she can feel his flesh move

“Yes Hermione” just a whisper , he wanted to crash in her arms

“how?” processing her shock.

She leaned into his legs , hugging him , with all her dirt and cuts from the push she got after the blow , rubbing her delicte face on his pants

“ I don’t... Hermione please “ who thought the bat of the dungeons would be seen begging to be held

Suddenly  she screamd , hitting her fists on his legs  crying , all her sense’s back to her now

“ you bastard!! , you fucking git, I poured all I got down your throat yet you died, I tried nursing you but you were gone sev , how are you alive , you were gone.. gone sev .. how “

“ Hermione please its hurting ,I can barely stand , stop it darling , let me hold you , I really don’t know how, but I swear I tried till the end,, let me hold you my sweet …I” he coughs blood, his voice tearing , tears now running down both their faces

He bent down trying to pick her up , but he had no power to even lift her

“sevv” she reached up and went into his arms , her fight broken as love took over them,”oh Severus you’re here, here and alive”

He sobbed , his blood dropping on her white shirt , she didn’t care ,they cried together , his blood marking her as his , as long as it meant he’s alive she didn’t care

“ I thought I had lost you “ both of them said

“ Hermione I love you” he kissed her head , “for now feel my heartbeat , kiss me , let me hold you and make you feel my veins pulsing , am alive my sweet hazelnut, I don’t give a damn how and why but it must be for you, I really don’t know how , we will have time to ask questions” his hand loosened a bit from her waist he was going to pass out from the blood loss, they had to close it

“ sev! Omg , let me heal that , am so stupid I forgot “ she scrunched her nose

“ its okay, am fine “ as usual trying to play a hero

“ no you are not mister” she unbuttoned her shirt , exposing her collar more till the beginning of her bust

“ I said am fii…” he almost toppled down , she caught him against her ,supporting his wight

“ told you so” she began healing him her wand out in one hand , the other holding his fragile body “Episkey…. Vulnera Sanentur…” skin knitting slowly, light sealing the wound, she didn’t stop till there was only a scar left and a tinkle of blood slowly stooping

“ my insufferable” he kissed her neck as if he was drunk “ know it “ hissing while she moved him into a tighter hug  “all”

“ I love you, you stubborn man ,but you’re still in pain and pale , the bleeding isn’t stooping fully” his mouth opened , teeth so sharp they could tear her, but she didn’t back away, she was so used to them ,by now they were one of the most familiar parts of him to her, beside other things, but that’s for another story

“ in my room there’s..” she sushed him

“ no, drink from me Sev” he fingers raked his hair , it was reaching his shoulders now , she remembers begging him to not cut it  before the war, she yanked his head towards her exposed bosom and neck

“ are you sure ?”

“ for gods sake Severus shut up and drink from me”

That was it.

The last thread snapped.

He moved, driven by something he couldn’t quite restrain, pulling her into him with a force that bordered on desperate. His breath was hot against her skin, uneven, his control slipping in sharp, fragile edges.

But even in that He hesitated.

Right there, at the edge.

His hand trembled where it held her, his teeth grazing her skin, not breaking it. Fighting himself. Always fighting.

Her fingers tightened in his hair.

“Severus,” she whispered, softer now, closer. “It’s me,drink.”

Not prey.

Not weakness.

Her.

That was what grounded him.

What changed it.

The hunger didn’t disappear—but it shifted.

When he finally moved again, it wasn’t to take.

It was to choose each other .

His mouth left her neck, but he didn’t pull away—not far. Not enough. Instead, his hand came up to her face, rough, almost disbelieving, as if he still wasn’t sure she was real.

“You came back to me,” he said, voice low, almost broken.

“I never left,” she answered.

And then—

He kissed her.

Not gentle. Not at first.

It carried everything—hunger, grief, the echo of death and the shock of finding her still here waiting for him.

It was fierce, almost overwhelming, like he needed to prove she was real, that this wasn’t some cruel illusion.

But it softened.

Because of her.

Because she stayed, because she leaned into it instead of away, because her hands didn’t push him back—they held him there.

Anchored him.

The hunger was still there, beneath it all.

It was his.

She was his

And when he finally broke the kiss, his forehead rested against hers, breath still uneven—but no longer out of control.

No longer weak

This time, when he looked at her—

It wasn’t like a man not sure.

It was like a man who had chosen exactly what he wanted.

And refused to lose it again.

“ am so gonna ravish you when we go back” gods help me with this woman.

The air around the shack was still—too still, like the world itself had forgotten how to move.

Ron Weasley was calling Hermione but no use

“ she must be around snapes statue, she’s always there these days, git , glad he died “

He was searching for her here and harry was looking for her around Hagrids hut

The ceremony was going to start , even minevera and sirus were looking around the castle for her

Ron came near the statue but all he saw was dust, no snape made out of marble

“ what the hell happened here” he moved carefully yet so clumsily behind the broken bench

He kept silent but Ron being  Ron got bored and went to get up

· ─────── · 𓅪 · ─────── · ·

Hermione stood close to Severus Snape, close enough that the distance between them no longer felt like distance at all. His presence was grounding and unsettling all at once—unchanged in the ways that mattered, yet undeniably here, alive when he was never supposed to be.

She didn’t look away from him.

Not even once.

“Tell me this isn’t another trick of my mind,” she whispered.

“It isn’t,” he answered quietly.

That was enough for her—for now.

Her crying and sadness  turned into moans as the kissing mixed with him feeding on her blood, lips red and smeared ,his energy refilling from her like a child suckling from his mother

Behind them, Ron Weasley had stopped.

That’s when he saw two figures clawing at each others mouth, hermione had blood on her lips and neck.

his shoes were untied he toppled over , making a thud on the soft ground

He tried focusing on who was attacking his mione.

The thud alerted snape

Snape saw him immediately.

Of course he did.

“NO…” Ron whispered from afar

Ron Weasley had stopped.

Completely.

His mind rejected it before his body could catch up.

That wasn’t possible.

Severus Snape was dead.

He had seen it. Heard it. Lived in the world after it.

And yet—

There he was.

Standing.

Breathing.

Too real to be anything else.

Ron’s breath caught hard in his throat.

His feet shifted back instinctively.

The thought refused to settle properly in Ron’s mind.

That couldn’t be real.

And yet it was.

Snape’s head turned slowly.

Like he already knew exactly where Ron was standing.

Their eyes met.

Ron froze.

A long silence stretched between them.

Then Snape’s mouth curved.

A small grin—controlled, sharp, unsettlingly calm.

Not friendly.

Not welcoming.

Something that felt like a quiet warning.

And that was the first and last time he saw snape smile, what a moment is it

Ron’s breath caught.

Beside Snape, Hermione shifted slightly, sensing the change.

“What is it?” she asked softly, turning her head a little. “What’s wrong?”

Snape didn’t look at her immediately.

His eyes stayed on Ron.

The grin didn’t fade.

If anything, it deepened—subtle, almost amused.

Then, finally, he answered her, voice low and composed.

“Nothing of importance.”

Hermione frowned slightly, glancing between him and the space behind him.

“I thought I heard something…”

“You didn’t,” Snape said quietly.

It wasn’t harsh.

It was certain.

As if reality itself had been corrected by his words.

Ron took a shaky step back.

Snape finally looked at Hermione now, the expression on his face changing entirely.

The grin softened into something quieter.

Steadier.

“Stay,” he said to her, almost gently. “With me.”

It wasn’t a command.

It was a grounding point.

Hermione hesitated only a second before her shoulders eased again.

“Okay,” she said softly.

“I missed you my Chestnut girl” he cooed softly , making her laugh and wiping her blood from his nose

“ you look cute”

“ only a mad girl will say that to the old ugly potions master”

“ hey take that back Severus Tobis snape , you’re beautiful”

he went back into her arms , kissing her madly , licking her face while Ron watched horrified

Behind them, Ron’s breathing turned uneven.

Snape’s gaze flicked back—just briefly.

That same calm grin returned for a fraction of a second.

A silent message Ron couldn’t escape even if he tried:

You are not part of this.

Then Snape looked away again, as if Ron had already ceased to matter.

That was what broke him.

Ron stumbled back, panic rising fast now.

“No…” he whispered. “No, this isn’t—”

His heel caught.

He almost fell, caught himself, then turned sharply—

And ran.

Back toward the castle.

Fast.

Like distance might undo what he had just seen.

· ─────── · 𓅪 · ─────── · ·

Ron was already running when the castle lights came into view.

His lungs burned, shoes striking stone too hard, too fast, like stopping would make everything behind him real again.

The Great Hall doors burst open ahead of him.

Warm light spilled out—music, movement, ceremony—

all of it stopped the moment he stepped inside.

A few heads turned.

Then more.

Until the entire hall was looking at him.

Ron barely slowed.

“Snape is alive,” he shouted .

Silence dropped instantly.

Like the room had been cut clean in half.

At the head table, Minerva McGonagall stood at once.

Controlled. Immediate.

“Weasley,” she said sharply, “explain yourself. And  where is Miss Granger, she should be here for this ceremony.”

Ron swallowed hard.

“I saw him,” he said. “Severus Snape. He’s alive.”

A ripple of disbelief moved through the teachers table.

McGonagall stepped down.

“That is not possible,” she said. “He was confirmed dead.”

“I know what I saw,” Ron replied. “The memorial statue—it’s gone. The place is empty.”

Whispers spread fast now.

Harry was on his feet before he realized it.

“Ron,” he said, tense, “what are you talking about?”

Then, quieter, “And Hermione?”

Ron hesitated.

“I saw her too,” he said.

That pulled everything tighter.

Sirius Black leaned forward, eyes narrowing.

“You saw Hermione ,ok? Then where’s she kid , she’s already hiding from us these days ,” he said slowly.

Ron nodded once.

“She wasn’t alone,” he said. “She was with Snape.”

Harry stiffened.

“With him,! Is she okay , did he hurt her?”

“ Mr. potter!, shame on you! Severus would never hurt a student “ Minerva said , still wondering if snape was really alive

Ron’s voice dropped.

“She didn’t look like shes hurt mate,” he said. “And it wasn’t like she just bumped into him either… it looked like they were horny teenagers.”

No one listened

All they focused on was that…Snape…is Alive.

McGonagall’s face went still.

“Enough,” Sirus said. “This is no time for speculation.”

But Harry had already stepped forward.

“We don’t speculate,” he said firmly. “We look for them.”

Sirius was already moving, gaze fixed toward the doors.

Ron tried to speak again—but the room tilted.

“ hes a … a vam..”””

His strength gave out all at once.

Only harry , Minerva and Sirus heard that

The last thing he saw was Harry moving toward him—

then everything went dark.
