Chapter 1: A bunny is my babysitter?!

Chapter Text

The Zootopia heat pressed down like a wool blanket, shimmering off the brick houses that made up Nick Wilde's neighborhood in the heart of the city. At thirteen years old, Nick already carried himself with the lanky, awkward grace of a fox kit caught between childhood and something more complicated. His reddish-orange fur was ruffled from a day spent dodging homework and playing basketball with the younger kits on his block, and his bushy tail flicked with restless energy as he leaned against the doorframe of his family's modest home, waiting. His mom said he was getting a sitter but she was hush hush on the details which wasn't a great sign.

When the doorbell chimed, he'd been expecting it, but the sight that greeted him still made his cheeks burn hot under his fur. A bunny stood there looking like she'd just come from the gym, grey high-waisted leggings that hugged every curve of her compact bunny frame, a matching sports bra visible beneath a cropped pink tank top. Her massive ears were pulled back in a practical ponytail that made her look both athletic and intimidating.

She was the new bunny cop from down the block right? Fresh out of the academy and already making waves according to neighborhood kid gossip and news. But seeing her here, on his doorstep, dressed like that for babysitting duty? That was a whole new level of humiliation mixed with something else he couldn't name. He knew the kids next door would be making jokes about it and him for the next week. 'Being baby sitted by a prey'

"Uh, hi," Nick muttered, his voice cracking mid-word in that embarrassing way it had been doing more and more lately.

"Hey there! You must be Nick," Judy said with that bright, optimistic smile he'd seen in the local news segments about Zootopia's first bunny cop. She extended a paw. "I'm Judy Hopps. Your mom hired me to keep an eye on things while she's away."

Nick shook her paw, trying to look cooler than he felt. "Yeah. But I'm thirteen, you know. I don't really need a babysitter."

Judy's violet eyes twinkled and she smirked, having expected that response. "Thirteen, huh? Well, consider me less of a babysitter and more of... a temporary roommate with snacks. Plus you wouldn't want to be at this house all alone right?"

She hopped up a step, and the movement made her tank top ride up, showing a strip of grey belly fur above the high waist of her leggings. Nick felt a warmth creeping under his fur that he recognized as something that his age felt around crushes, but to him, it was just an itch he couldn't scratch, leaving his muzzle seeming frozen. "Hope you don't mind the gym clothes. Got held up at the precinct, then did a few reps to stay in shape."

"N-no I don-" Before Nick could respond, his mother appeared at the top of the stairs, suitcase in paw. "Judy, perfect timing!" Mrs. Wilde said, her voice carrying the tired warmth of a single mother working too many hours. She was a slender vixen with kind eyes that had seen more than their share of hardship. "Nick, this is Officer Hopps. Judy, this is my son Nick."

"We already introduced ourselves, Mom," Nick said, trying to sound casual

"Good," Mrs. Wilde said, coming down the stairs. She ruffled the fur between Nick's ears, ignoring the playful scowl it earned. "Judy's just moved into the neighborhood. She's with the ZPD, so you're in very capable paws."

"I'm thirteen," Nick repeated, as if saying it enough times would make it matter. "And having an officer as a babysitter is going to be boring. I'm going to be the laughing stock in the neighborhood!"

"Oh hush, you're exaggerating. And I'm only leaving for two days," his mother countered gently. "Snacks are stocked, emergency numbers are on the fridge, and bed by ten sharp on school nights." She planted a kiss on his forehead that made him squirm but he smiled at the affection. "Love you, slick. I'll call when I get in tonight."

Judy smiled at the cute sight. "You got it, Mrs. Wilde. He's in good paws. Don't worry."

His mother gave him one last look, part worry, part trust before grabbing her suitcase and heading out the door. The click of the lock echoed in the sudden silence of the house, a silence that felt too loud, too empty with just the two of them.

Nick shifted awkwardly, his baggy basketball shorts feeling suddenly too thin. Puberty had been hitting him like a freight train lately, and every female he encountered from the vixen classmates at school to the Gazelle ads on his phone made his body react in stupid, uncontrollable ways. Judy standing there in her gym clothes wasn't helping.

"So," Judy said, breaking the silence. "What do thirteen-year-olds do for fun around here?" Her eyebrow raised with a gleeful smile.

Nick shrugged, trying to play it cool. "Video games mostly. Sometimes basketball with the kits next door."

Glancing outside it was getting dark out. "Its a little late out for basketball. But Video games,?" Judy's ears perked up with mild interest. "What kind? I'm not good when it comes to games."

"Mostly Pawcraft and Terratria. Or there's Call of Deer," Nick said, leading her into the living room. "It's a shooter. You probably wouldn't like it."

"We'll see," Judy said setting her backpack of stuff beside the living room table before, plopping down on the couch. She tucked her legs up under her in a way that made her leggings pull tight. "I was top of my class in tactical training at the academy. I bet I could outshoot you even in a game."

"Fine." Nick raised an eyebrow, a sly grin spreading across his muzzle. "You're on, officer."

He set up the console, handing Judy a controller. For the next hour, they battled through virtual cityscapes, Judy proving surprisingly competent despite claiming she'd never played before. Nick found himself actually enjoying her company more than he thought. She was competitive but good-natured, trash-talking with a playful edge that made him laugh. At first he got her but slowly she started to learn the controls.

"Ha! Got you again!" Judy crowed after taking him down for the third time in a row.

"Beginner's luck," Nick grumbled, but he was smiling.

They took a break for snacks, and Judy made them blended carrot drinks from the fridge. As she leaned against the counter, taking a long swallow, Nick found himself watching the movement of her throat before jerking his eyes away. Her scent wafted over to him, clean sweat, scented shampoo, something in the air that made his stomach do flips. There was a warmth to her presence that felt different than just body heat, something that seemed to radiate from her.

Just as they were about to settle back on the couch, Judy's phone buzzed. She checked it and her ears twitched. "Oh, your mom just texted me. She says you have homework to do tonight."

Nick groaned dramatically. "It's Friday! I can do it tomorrow."

"Nice try," Judy said with a firm but playful tone. "Rules are rules. Show me what you've got, and we'll tackle it together. I was pretty good at school stuff."

“Fine…” Reluctantly, Nick retrieved his backpack from his room. He spread out his math and science books on the coffee table. "It's algebra and biology," he said, making a face. "The worst."

Judy scooted closer to look at his workbook. "Algebra, huh? Let me see." She studied the problems for a moment. "Okay, so for this one, you need to isolate x. See how they have 3x+7=22? First subtract 7 from both sides..."

For the next 10 minutes, Judy helped Nick with his homework. She was surprisingly patient and good at explaining things. Nick found himself actually understanding the material better with her guidance. She had a way of breaking down complex problems into simple steps. And math wasn't difficult for him already.

"See? Not so bad," Judy said when they finished the last math problem. "Now biology. What are you studying?"

"Reproduction cycles," Nick mumbled, his ears drooping slightly and his muzzle getting warm. "It's... awkward."

Judy's expression softened. "Ah. Well, that's important stuff to know. Especially at your age." She glanced at the textbook diagrams. "You know, bunnies have some of the most... intense reproductive biology in the animal kingdom. We're basically designed to multiply rapidly."

Nick's green eyes widened before smirking. "Really? Is that why you're so good at math?"

"Har har, very funny," Judy said with a wry smile. "My parents have like... 275 siblings between them. It's a whole thing. But the point is, biology is biology. It's natural. Nothing to be embarrassed about."

They worked through the biology assignment, with Judy offering insights on mammalian physiology. Nick found himself relaxing more beside her, the initial awkwardness fading as they focused on the work.

When they finally finished, Judy high-fived him. "See? Homework done, and it's only... 8:30. We still have time for another round of games before your bedtime."

They settled back on the couch for another round, and Nick sat closer than he meant to. The cushion dipped under their combined weight, and he became acutely aware of her body beside him. Her scent was stronger now in the enclosed space, that mix of clean sweat and carrots and something warmer, distinctly female. His eyes darted to the way her sports bra hugged her small chest, the strip of grey belly fur visible between her tank top and leggings, the powerful curve of her thighs.

He tried to focus on the game, but his body was betraying him. Heat flooded his groin, his shorts tenting unmistakably now. He adjusted himself behind a paw, praying she didn't notice as he fumbled with his controller.

She did, her nose twitching and she bit her bottom lip before her expression went back to normal. "Are you okay Nick?" Judy asked casually during a loading screen, leaning in to playfully nudge him with her elbow.

The touch sent sparks through him, and he jerked back with a surprised yet nervous giggle that immediately made him scowl to cover it up. Her paw was warm, slightly damp from her drink. "Y-yeah I guess. Mom says my bodys going through changes," Nick admitted, his ears drooping in a way he hated, feeling vulnerable. "Sorry, it's dumb. Everything feels... weird. Like, all the time. Can't control it."

Judy's paw landed firm on his shoulder, warm and steady through the fabric of his t-shirt. "It's okay. Totally normal, Nick. Happens to everyone, predator or prey. Biology doesn't discriminate." She paused, her expression growing thoughtful, almost distant for a moment before smiling comfortingly again. "Especially with bunnies. I'm... going through something similar myself right now. It's called heat."

Nick blinked, not entirely sure what she meant but understanding it was something biological, something more adult. Judy seemed to be having some kind of internal debate, her violet eyes looked down with thought and her nose twitched before they cleared and focused on him again.

"Um, would you… want me to show you how to handle it?" she asked, her voice dropping to that smooth, coaxing tone again. "No one has to know our little secret. I could... help you out. With my paw. Just to show you how to get rid of it..."

Nick hesitated, heart pounding against his ribs like it wanted out. Curiosity clawed at him, stronger than the throb in his shorts, stronger than the voice in his head that said this was a bad idea. What harm could it do? She was a cop, for crying out loud. She was an adult that knew about this stuff. And she was right there, smelling like sweat and carrots and looking at him with those knowing violet eyes. He could trust her right!

"S-sure," he stammered, his voice barely above a whisper. "My muzzle is sealed. Our secret."

He scooted closer, their fur brushing. Judy's paw slid from his shoulder to his thigh, high up, her pads pressing through the thin fabric of his basketball shorts. "Ever wonder what it feels like when someone else touches you there?" she whispered, her big ears twitching slightly. Her breath smelled of carrot drink and something sweet.

"Uh... yeah?" His voice cracked again, betraying him completely. He cleared his throat, trying for something cooler. "I mean, sure. Who doesn't?" He stammered out, wondering if that was the correct answer.

"Show me yours first," Judy said gently, not demanding but inviting. "Let me see what we're working with."

Nick's paws trembled as he fumbled with the drawstring of his shorts, fingers suddenly clumsy. He shoved them down along with his boxers in one awkward push, his young fox cock springing free. It was red and rigid. It was smaller than what he'd glimpsed in the locker room showers, he figured, but throbbed with urgent, kit energy. Heat rushed to his face as Judy looked, her expression one of calm assessment rather than judgment.

"Okay," she said softly with a deep breath. "Now, just relax. This might feel strange at first."

Her paw wrapped around him, and Nick gasped at the contact. Her grip was firm but not tight, her pads warm and slightly rough against his sensitive skin. She began to stroke him slowly, from base to tip, her movements measured and careful. He couldn't help but lean his head back in pleasure.

"See?" she murmured, leaning closer so her breath tickled his ear. "It's okay. Just breathe."

Nick tried to relax, but his whole body was trembling. Her paw felt foreign, alien, but good in a way he couldn't explain. Judy continued her slow strokes, her other paw coming up to rest on his shoulder, anchoring him as he let out deep, heated breaths.

"You're doing great," she whispered into his ear, her voice soft and encouraging. "Just let it feel good. That's what it's for."

As she worked, her strokes became more confident, more rhythmic. Nick found himself leaning into her touch, his hips giving little involuntary thrusts. The embarrassment began to fade, replaced by a building tension low in his belly, a warmth spreading through him.

"See how your body responds?" Judy said, her lips close to his ear. "That's natural. That's biology. Your little white fluffy balls there," she gave them a gentle squeeze with her free paw, making him gasp, "they're getting ready to drop. That means you're becoming a man. Right now you're just a good boy~"

Her words sent a shiver through him that had nothing to do with fear. She was talking to him like he was grown? Like this was something serious and important rather than dirty or shameful.

Judy shifted slightly beside him, her body moving in a subtle way that caught Nick's attention. He watched, mesmerized, as her free paw slipped down from his shoulder, trailing along her own body. Her fingers found the waistband of her high-waisted grey leggings, and she hooked a thumb beneath the fabric, pulling it down just enough to expose the soft grey fur of her lower belly.

"I told you I was in heat," she whispered, her voice thick with something Nick didn't recognize. "This is what it feels like for a bunny."

Her fingers slid beneath the fabric of her leggings, disappearing from view. Nick's eyes widened as he realized what she was doing. Her breathing hitched slightly as her paw moved, hidden beneath the tight grey material. The scent in the air changed, growing richer, muskier, an unmistakably female scent that made Nick's nose twitch and his mouth go dry.

"See?" Judy murmured, her strokes on his cock never ceasing. "We're not so different, you and I. Our bodies want things. They need things."

Her hips gave a small, subtle roll against her own paw, and Nick could see the fabric of her leggings shift with the movement. Her violet eyes had taken on a glassy, distant look, focused somewhere between Nick's face and the middle distance. Her breathing was becoming more pronounced, coming in soft pants that matched the rhythm of her paw moving beneath her clothes.

"It's okay to watch," she said, catching his gaze. "This is biology too. This is what happens during heat. Everything gets... sensitive. Everything wants to be touched."

Nick couldn't look away. The dual sensations were overwhelming, her paw stroking his cock while she touched herself beside him and his fluffy balls tensing and slapping against her soft fingers. He could hear the soft, wet sounds coming from beneath her leggings, could see the way her body tensed and relaxed with each movement of her hidden paw. Her scent filled the air around them, that warm, musky, distinctly feminine smell that made his head swim.

"Your body is learning," Judy whispered, her voice strained now. "Mine already knows. It knows exactly what it wants, exactly what it needs."

She increased the pace of her strokes on him, her grip tightening just slightly which made his eyes roll back in pleasure slightly. At the same time, her other paw moved more urgently beneath her leggings, her hips rocking in small, desperate motions against her own fingers. Nick could see the muscles in her thighs tense, could see the way her belly clenched with each movement.

"When you get older," she panted, "You'll understand this better. You'll feel this... this need. This ache that only goes away one way."

"I-i think I understand it now" He muttered in-between breaths without thinking, just focusing on the almost overwhelming pleasure. Her eyes locked with his, and Nick saw something raw and vulnerable there, something stripped of all pretense. This wasn't the confident police officer or the playful babysitter. This was just Judy, a bunny in heat, her body demanding what it needed.

"I'm close," she whispered, almost to herself. "Oh, Nick..."

"J-judy-" Her name turned into a moan as her strokes on him became frantic, her paw moving up and down his length with desperate speed. Her other paw worked furiously beneath her leggings, her entire body trembling with the effort. Nick watched, mesmerized, as her expression transformed, her mouth falling open in a silent gasp, her eyes squeezing shut.

"Come with me," she begged, her voice a raw whisper. "Come now, Nick. Let go."

That was all the encouragement he needed. The tension that had been building in his groin suddenly erupted, his whole body seizing up, back arching, toe beans curling. A wave of intense pleasure washed over him, leaving him panting and trembling, but his cock remained hard in her paw, no cum spurting from the tip.

At the same moment, Judy let out a choked gasp, her body going rigid beside him. Her paw stilled beneath her leggings, her entire frame trembling with violent shudders that seemed to go on and on. Her head fell back against the couch cushions, her chest heaving as she rode out the waves of her own climax.

For a long moment, there was only the sound of their ragged breathing in the quiet living room. Judy's paw finally stilled on his cock, her fingers relaxing their grip but not letting go entirely. Her other paw slowly withdrew from beneath her leggings, coming to rest on her thigh. Nick could see the dampness on her grey furred fingers, could smell the evidence of her pleasure mingling with his own scent in the air.

"I should've expected that," Judy just smiled softly, her strokes slowing to gentle caresses. Nick was left panting in confusion as she pulled up her leggings. "Wha? Is something wrong?”

"Dry orgasm," she explained quietly. "That happens sometimes when you're young. Your body's still figuring things out. It's completely normal."

She leaned in then, and before Nick could process what was happening, her lips were on his. It was a soft kiss, chaste but firm, lasting only a few seconds before she pulled back. Nick stared at her, breathless, mind reeling.

"Good boy," Judy whispered, guiding his head down to rest in her lap. Her paw stroked through the fur between his ears, gentle and soothing, the same paw that was in-between her own legs. "Just rest now. You did great."

Nick lay there, his head on her thigh, the soft grey fur of her leggings against his cheek. He could feel the warmth of her body through the fabric, hear the steady beat of her heart. His own breathing slowly returned to normal, the aftershocks of pleasure still tingling through him. Her gentle paw strokes through his fur lulling him into a state of peaceful vulnerability he rarely allowed himself. The tension from earlier had melted away, replaced by a warm, sleepy contentment. For the first time in a long while, he felt truly seen and accepted, not judged for his species or his awkward teenage body.

Judy's voice was soft when she spoke again. "You know, Nick... when I first moved here, I heard some of the neighborhood kids talking. They said you keep to yourself a lot. That you don't trust easily. And these bunny ears don't lie."

Nick tensed slightly, his ears twitching, looking away. "They don't know anything."

"I know," Judy said, her paw stilling for a moment before resuming its soothing motion. "But I also know what it's like to be judged before anyone gets to know you. Being the first bunny cop in Zootopia... let's just say not everyone at the precinct was welcoming at first."

Nick opened his eyes, looking up at her. "Really? But you're... you're so confident."

Judy smiled, but it didn't quite reach her eyes. "Confidence is something you learn. Sometimes you have to fake it until it becomes real." She paused, her violet eyes thoughtful. "You remind me of myself when I was younger. Determined to prove everyone wrong, but carrying something heavy inside."

The words hung in the air between them, and Nick felt an unexpected urge to share what he'd kept buried for years. Maybe it was the intimacy of the moment, or the way Judy had shown him kindness without judgment. Maybe it was just that he was tired of carrying it alone. But he let it out

"I... something happened to me," Nick began, his voice barely above a whisper. "When I was eight."

Judy's paw stilled completely this time, and she looked down at him with full attention. "You don't have to tell me if you don't want to."

But he did want to. The words were already spilling out, unstoppable now that he'd started.

"I tried to join the Junior Ranger Scouts," Nick said, his eyes fixed on the ceiling as if watching the memory play out. "My dad had just... left. And I thought maybe if I joined something, made some friends..." He swallowed hard. "The other kids were all prey species. Rabbits, deer, sheep and seemed like they were cool with me."

Judy's expression softened, a flicker of pain in her eyes. "Oh, Nick..."

"But they... they suddenly ganged up on me." Nick's voice grew tighter. "They said foxes couldn't be trusted. That we were sneaky and dangerous"

He took a shaky breath, the memory vivid even after five years. "They held me down. Three of them, and they were bigger. And pinned me down..." His throat constricted and he let out a sigh. "T-they had a muzzle. They forced it on me, strapped it tight. Said they didn't trust a fox without one."

Judy's paw tightened on his shoulder, her expression shifting from compassion to something darker, a protective anger that even surprised him. "They did what?!"

"The worst part wasn't the muzzle," Nick whispered, tears welling in his eyes that he quickly blinked away. "It was their laughter. Said they were going to show everyone what happens when predators try to join prey activities and that was dumb for trusting them." He closed his tearing eyes. "I never told my mom. She was working two jobs after Dad left, and she looked so tired all the time. I didn't want to be another problem… I just told her that they already had too many members and threw the uniform away."

For a long moment, Judy was silent. When she finally spoke, her voice was thick with emotion. "Nick, look at me."

He opened his eyes, meeting her violet gaze. There were tears in her eyes too, but her expression was fierce.

"What they did to you was wrong," she said, each word deliberate and firm. "It was cruel, and it was illegal. Assault, harassment, discrimination, all of it."

"I'm a fox," Nick said, the old defense automatic. "Everyone expects-"

"No." Judy's interruption was gentle but firm. "No one has the right to treat you like that. Not because of your species, not because of anything." She cupped his cheek with her paw, her touch warm and grounding. "You were brave to try to join. Braver than any of those bullies."

Nick felt something shift inside him, a weight he hadn't realized he was carrying lightening just a little. "You really think so?"

"I know so," Judy said with conviction. "And for what it's worth... I'm proud of you for telling me. That takes courage too."

Then she did something unexpected. She leaned down and pressed a soft kiss to his forehead, her lips lingering against his fur. It was a maternal gesture, comforting and pure. When she pulled back, she didn't stop there. She kissed his cheek, then the tip of his nose, each kiss gentle and affectionate.

Nick's breath caught in his throat. No one had been this physically comforting with him since he was a little kit, not even his mom who was always so busy working. And this was less intense then what happened earlier.

"Shh, it's okay," Judy murmured between kisses. "You're safe now. You're with me."

She pulled him into a proper hug then, wrapping her arms around him tightly. Nick buried his face in her shoulder, inhaling her scent and clean sweat, and this time he didn't try to hide the tears that dampened her tank top. He cried quietly, the sobs shaking his thin frame as years of pent up hurt finally found release.

Judy held him through it all, one paw stroking his back in slow, soothing circles while the other cradled the back of his head. She hummed softly, a tuneless, comforting sound that vibrated through her chest and into his.

When his tears finally subsided to hiccups and sniffles, Judy pulled back just enough to look at him. Her violet eyes were soft with compassion. Using her thumbs, she gently wiped the tears from his cheeks, her touch feather light.

"You're a good fox, Nick Wilde," she whispered, her voice filled with genuine affection. "A really good fox."

She kissed his forehead again, then both cheeks, before finally pressing a soft, chaste kiss to his lips. It was brief but filled with tenderness, a promise of acceptance that went beyond words.

"Now listen to me," Judy said, keeping her face close to his, their noses almost touching. "You are not defined by what those kids did to you. You're smart, you're funny, you're a good son to your mom, and from what I've seen tonight, you're going to grow into an amazing fox."

Nick managed a small, wobbly smile. "Even with the awkward puberty stuff? You really think so?"

"Especially with the awkward puberty stuff," Judy said, returning his smile and kissing the tip of his nose again. "That just means you're growing. And growing is messy for everyone." She paused, her expression turning serious again. "If you ever want to report what happened... I could help. Even after all this time, there might be something we can do."

Nick shook his head. "I don't want to make trouble. Besides, it was awhile ago."

“Still," Judy said softly. "People who do things like that usually keep doing it to others. But the choice is yours. Just know that I believe you, and I'm on your side."

She pulled him close again, this time settling them so they were lying side by side on the couch, Nick nestled against her chest with her arms wrapped securely around him. She began to stroke his back again, her movements slow and rhythmic.

"You know," Judy said after a while, her voice thoughtful. "The ZPD has a youth outreach program. They do self defense classes and too... and they're very strict about anti discrimination policies. Maybe you'd like to check it out sometime."

Nick opened one eye. "With you?"

"If you want," Judy said with a smile, kissing the top of his head. "I volunteer there on weekends. We could go together."

For the first time that evening, Nick felt a genuine spark of excitement that had nothing to do with hormones or awkwardness. "Yeah. I think I'd like that."

Judy glanced at the clock on the wall. "It's getting close to your bedtime, slick. But we've got all day tomorrow too. Your mom won't be back until Sunday evening."

Nick snuggled closer, not wanting to move from the comfort of her embrace. "What are we going to do tomorrow?"

Judy's eyes twinkled. "Well, I was thinking we could make pancakes for breakfast. Then maybe hit the basketball court, show those kits next door what a bunny cop can do. And after that... whatever you want. Within reason," she added with a playful smirk, giving him a gentle squeeze.

Nick grinned, the shadows of his memory receding for now. "You're really not like any babysitter I've ever had."

"That's because I'm not a babysitter," Judy said, her voice warm with affection. She kissed his forehead once more. "I'm your friend. And your temporary roommate with snacks. Now come on, time for bed."

Reluctantly, Nick untangled himself from her arms and stood up. As he headed toward his room, he paused at the doorway, looking back at her. "Judy?"

"Yeah, Nick?"

"Thanks. For everything. The lessons, the kisses and... all of it."

Judy's smile was warm and genuine. "Anytime. Now get some sleep. I'll be right out here if you need anything."

Nick nodded and disappeared into his room. As he changed into his pajamas and climbed into bed, he realized something surprising: he was actually looking forward to tomorrow. For the first time in a long while, he felt hopeful. The memory of Judy helping his puberty problem, affectionate kisses, her comforting embrace, her unwavering belief in him, all of it wrapped around him like a protective blanket.

He touched his lips where she'd kissed him, then his forehead, cheeks, nose. Each spot seemed to still hold the warmth of her affection. And as he drifted off to sleep.

In the living room, Judy cleaned up their snack dishes, her expression thoughtful. She glanced toward Nick's closed door, her protective instincts fully engaged. The story he'd shared had stirred something in her, not just sympathy, but a fierce determination to be someone he could trust in a world that had already shown him too much cruelty.

She made a mental note to try and look up those Junior Ranger Scout records tomorrow. Even if Nick didn't want to press charges, she wanted to know who those kids were. And she'd make sure they never hurt anyone else the way they'd hurt him.

Settling onto the couch with a blanket, Judy smiled to herself. Being a cop was about more than catching bad guys, it was about protecting the vulnerable. And right now, in this little house in the heart of Zootopia, she knew exactly who she was protecting.
