Chapter Text
Rhaenyra just woke up, literally few seconds ago, and already someone was waiting in front of her chambers.
"Princess are you awake?" She heard Margo's voice. The servant was relly a nice person and Rhaenyra liked to spend time with her, but in that moment she feelt like burning the girl at the steak. For some reason she could't get any peace and quiet recenty.
"Give me a moment Margooo" Slowly getting up Rhaenyra realized she didn't braid her hair for the night and now it's all tangled "Actually Marg, I will need your help" The second she finished the sentence Margo was in her chamber, when she noticed the tangles on Rhaenyras hair she let out a sigh.
"Princess I told you i could braid the hair. Next time im not going to take no for an answear" Rhaenyra rolled her eyes as Margo got the comb and started working on her hair.
"Im sorry Marg, this wont happen again" it definitley will "Who wants me and for what?"
"Oh that, yes. Well the king send me for you without an explenattion but i heard that somebody came back today..." Margo stopped talking to focus on the hair for a second and then she jumped with excitment "ON A DAGON" Rhaenyra freezed. There is no way...
"Are you sure? About the dragon part?" She turned around to face the servant, Margo nodded with excitmet. Her father wouldn't wake her up just to have her greet his fucked up brother would he? "Well I hope it is not the only reason they want me to be awake at this early hour..." Margo got back to detangling and Rhaenyra started overthinkig all the reasons for her to be at the small councils meeting.
She chose to wear something covering, a long sleeved navy dress with high neckline and gold stiches that complemented her tanned skin. Last time she went to the small councils meeting in a dress with a low neckline the master of coin was really gross about it, and now with Daemon in the room she didn't want to drow much attention.
The fast walk through secret tunnels was refreshing as always. She was one of three people in the castle that knew the placement of every corridor and every single entry. The Red Keep was a real maze. Rhaenyra loved playing in the secret tunnels as a kid and now they were her hiding safe spots. No unwanted attention, nobody judging just her and her thougts.
"And i heard he came back to get married" Rhaenyra heard a female voice behind the wall, probbalby one of the cooks, they were the loudest gossipers in entire castle and she always heard something juicy in the corridors near kitchens "You think he will choose our princess? In the name of keeping the blod pure?" this time it was a male voice, both of them started laughing, Rhaenyra cringed "I think our princess would rather go to the wall then marry " "True, but she doesn't have a choice does she? The king isn't getting healthier or younger, i think Daemon will take her with the throne" Rhaenyra quickly stepped away. Those type of conversations were happening all the time, but nobody before paired her and her uncle up. Or she didn't hear about it before. The voices started blurring past her and eventually she was sorounded only by the echo of her own footsteps.
There is no way her father wold do this to her, no. No no no no no. Speeding up with every step, she got to the hall in front of the small councils chamber. She corrected her dress and walked up to the kings guards.
"Princess" They openned her the door and all eyes in the room turned at her. She heard few goodmorning mumbles as she walked into the chamber.
"Rhaenyra you grew so much" Daemon stood up to bow with that scary smile he always did, she shrugged, and gave a fake smile to all the man around "We were just talking about you"
"And now the topic is over" Her father said sharply, looking at Daemon with an angry frown "Lets get to the Steps" Rhaenyra sat as far from her uncle as she could. For the rest of the council meeting she tried to listen and analize while the Steps and other minor kingdom issues were discussed. The meeting ended with Daemon saying he needs to go visit his dragon, and a loud tired sigh from Jaehaerys.
"Will he attend every small council meeting from now on?" Lord Hightower asked with irritade voice. Rhaenyra understood that irritation. Dameon was terrible, annoying and full of himself.
"I don't think we can stop him, but one more marriage proposal and i will burn him alive" laughts spread around the chamber. Slowly the lords walked out, and she was left alone with her father and his hand. "Rhaea, im glad you came. We have to talk" Her father looked more tired then normal " You have reached the age. I need to fight off lords of with dogs." Rhaenyra knew about that. Since the last day of her name she has been hearing all sorts of marriage proposals, but she hoped her fatrher would wait at least till she was seventeen to give her away to some gross old man. She tensed a little waiting for her father to continue " I don't want Daemon on the throne, he is a menace and he would be a bad king" That was a turn, Lord Hihtower shifted in his chair "I want to legitemize you as my hair Rhaenyra"
The walk back to her chaimbers was too quiet. She spend a long time listening to reasons for her father decision, with a wide smile. Lord Hightower was suprisinglly very supportive of that decizion. She replayed her father words over and over. Her morning fears were all gone and the threat of becoming Daemon's wife suddenly felt like an annoying fly more than a real thing that could change her life.
She needed to see Syrax, to tell her everything and be happy together.
"Margooooo" the girl came almost emiediatly, Rhaenyra grabbed her into a hug "Braid my hair for dragon riding?" Margo smiled and started detangling.
"So why were you needed Princess?" an innecent question, but Rhaenyra knew how fast the gossip goes around the castle, and then the whole Kings Landing.
"You were right, prince Daemon came back" She paused for a second "The king just wanted me to say hello" That was the safest lie she could think of. Margo was visibly disapointed.
"Oh thats, great"
Syrax roared like she already knew what Rhaenyra wanted to say when she ran up to her. She quickly got her girl out of the dragon pit and they flew away. Rhaenyra loved spending time with Syrax, more than enything ever. She even heard few gossips where people thought she was a warg, but their connection was just really strong and solid.
"He just said that like it was obvious, IM GONNA BE THE QUEEN SYRAX!" The yellow dragon roared in excitment. Rhaenyra was bubbling, happy and everything and those emotions definitley got to Syrax throuh their weirdly srong bond. "And the best part is the no marriage threat, oh I was so scared about that. Can you imagine marrying Daemon. I wold run away." Syrax seemed to agree and they speed up.
"We are gonna be queeeeeeeeeeeeens!"
