What Is Happily Ever After?

Summary:

Once upon a time sounds simple on paper, but is it really?

How does end find a happy ending? It doesn't fall simply from the sky, or from a silly old shoe.

To break a curse, one must being willing to do what it takes, no matter the risk.

Notes:

This is a combination of fairy tales, myths, and other that I kind of just threw together, to make this story.

Hope you enjoy.

Chapter 1: Prologue: Once Upon A Time

Chapter Text

Once upon time, in the great land of Realosa, where many kingdoms existed and lived through the many countries and continents of the world.

Where monsters lurked in the shadows, and dragons lived silently in the mountains.

But our story focuses on one kingdom out of the many.

One mighty castle called…Entaria.

Entaria, was the place where peace was common, and kindness was plentiful.

Where one could commit to their dreams or ideals and make a name for themself.

Ruling over this place of peace and wonderment was the grand Queen Annette Nelson, who ruled with a gentle grip and guiding words of wisdom.

Beside her was her eight children.

All of them had taken after their mother in keeping things in the kingdom safe and peaceful.

Yet all was not as it seemed, one day a seer told Queen Annette that her kingdom would fall to ruin the day that winter arrived.

And considering that winter was going to be arriving in a week, the Queen was in a haste to find a solution.

Gearing up for the long journey, Queen Annette told her children that she would return by the weekend.

The children begged their mother not to leave, but alas it wasn’t like fate could stop.

By the end of Fall and the beginning of Winter arrived, Queen Anette did not return.

Instead a powerful dark mage swept onto the castle grounds and stood before the new rulers.

The youngest, a brave daughter, wanted to stand against the powerful dark mage, but the mage’s cunning was greater than the braveness of the girl.

But he wasn’t without a kind thought.

No, he told them that he would give them a fighting chance.

A single opportunity to be given back the life they had once had.

In the process though many fled the kingdom, leaving only those that served the castle, and the royals themselves.

Three of the older siblings had left to find the mother.

So the curse fell over the remaining children, and the castle grounds itself.

One was cursed to be a beast of metal and furred flesh.

One shackled to the form of a goblin, that was blue.

One who becomes a mess of flesh and stitching.

But two of the siblings remained human, because to the dark mage, there was nothing worse than being unmarked while those you loved suffered.

Those who worked at the castle were also cursed, turned into various monsters and objects around the country.

All of them boxed in a massive castle and its gardens.

All while the citizens fled, not believing that anyone could save the kingdom.

That all was lost.

After the dark mage had left, and everyone hung their heads in despair, winter would remain eternal.

But, for there to be a happy ending magic was needed again, and that came in the form of an odd man.

He came in passing like the wind.

Only once did he offer a solution to the royals and those that lived in their damned kingdom.

That they needed to find a way to break their curses.

For each that had one.

The two youngest siblings decided to accept his words, since they were the only ones in the whole kingdom who weren’t cursed.

Still it would be another three years before they would finally be able to break the curses.

And that is where our story begins.

In a cursed kingdom where winter stood eternal, but they stood alongside it.
