Chapter 1: honey

Chapter Text

It's easy to hide from others,
Buried deep under the dirt,
Lurking in the dark woods.
Words laced with a hidden scent,
Rough around the edges, with no honey said.

「I hate you!」you may say.
Your reader may react a different way.
Inside your words lies a different intent—
『I love you』it may mean.
But honey belongs in tea,
Not in your words; not even a drop.

You may say it helps your reader.
You may say it's for the future.
「Their own good!」「For the better!」
Harsh words coated in spice,
Kind words coated in honey.

「You cannot even do this much!」you may yell.
Yet the next second, honey drips from your voice.
『Help you』you may try.
Yet your reader can't taste the honey.
They have already swallowed the spice—
The sweetness can't be felt through the burn.
Your reader may break from your harsh words.

There's no reason to hide,
And no reason to tell the lie.
Spice lingers on the tongue,
While honey disappears in the heat.
「Where is the love?」your reader asks.
「Where is the good?」
There is no honey within the spice.
It is only the truth.

You speak the truth because it is easy to say.
Spice is easier to handle than honey.
Sweetness overwhelms, thick and heavy,
While spice never slows.
The lie catches in your throat,
The honey is harder to swallow.
Your reader endures your spice well,
So that is all you give them.

「It's only for you」you repeat.
Yet your reader keeps eating.
They ignore the honey—the easy way out.
They continue to swallow,
Ignoring the burn in their throat.
Your reader pleases you.
Yet you don't see what they avoid.
They avoid your harsh dishes,
Loaded with spice and chili,
With no escape.
It's only for you.

You cannot coat spice with honey.
One will always overpower the other.
There is a difference between them.
One cannot hide inside the other.
Your reader swallows your dish.
After all—
『I love you.』
