Work Text:
Ribbit adjusted her bow tie once more, her nerves rising further, as Jax sat on her bed, flipping lazily through something, whistling a tune without a care. Ribbit felt ticked, throwing a cushion at Jax's head, tapping their foot.
“A little help would be nice, Jaxxy.” Quips Ribbit, huffing.
Jax rolls his eyes, hopping to his feet, strolling over to their friend, flicking the bow tie playfully. “Cool it, Froggy. ‘M sure, she's just as nervous as you are. Ragatha and Ribbons ain't the best at advice, like yours truly.” Remarks Jax, winking at them.
Ribbit shoved him, giggling, feeling themselves relax. “Yeah, thanks Jax.” Before elbowing Jax with a mischievous grin, “If I recall, you needed Kinger's advice for your sugar dad–” A light yellow gloved hand covered their mouth, as a red blush ruptured his entire face, with slight blush lines across his ears.
“N-not another word, Froggy.” Says Jax, trying to sound threatening, his blushing face countered the effect.
Ribbit nodded, once the hand was removed zipped her mouth like a mime, grinning at the pouting Jax, his cellphone wrung, the blush came back full force.
Ribbit made a dash to the door, laughing loudly, nearly missing an alarm clock hitting their head.
Ribbit headed toward the lake, breathing in to dispatch the nerves, saw Pomni sitting on top of a fallen log, plucking cattails, bending them in a makeshift crown, her tongue sticking out in concentration.
‘Cute.” Thought Ribbit, a goofy smile appearing on their face. Shaking the thought away, snuck closer into the cattails, watching the jester clumsily make ‘flower’ crowns with the cattails. The crickets bounced around her long skirt, chirping, as fireflies glowed around her head, lighting her prettily under it.
The orbs of light fluttered around Pomni, dancing to their own tune, Ribbit slid onto the fallen log, diminishing the distance, leaning closer to her.
“Hey, PomPom, whatcha doing?” Ribbit asks, the jester jumps in her seat, sending a glare to the frog, elbowing them.
“I'm making you a gift to remember this outing. Says Pomni, not noticing how Ribbit's heart fluttered at the gesture, they inwardly cooed.
Ribbit hopped to her feet, her hands out in front of her, as the fireflies listlessly floated around her, the low glow, highlighting Ribbit's face.
Pomni watched the scene from the corner of her eye, biting her tongue at the purr stuck in her throat, continued her work, scrambling to her feet, went on her tippy toes, and placed the crown on Ribbit's head.
“There, now a proper monarch.” Jokes Pomni, grinning at the slight flush.
“Would that make you my wife?” Blurts out Ribbit, scrambling to fix her mistake, Pomni giggling stopped them.
“Depends, was this a date?” Muses Pomni, placing her hand on Ribbit's forearm.
“..yeah, it was.’ Murmurs Ribbit, closing the distance, their mouths met. And only witnesses were fireflies floating above the pair, in their own little world.
