Chapter Text
“…Egg?”
Wemmbu stepped into the hospital room that belonged to his friend. He was never informed that he woke up while he was at school. Which was strange, since he thought that they’d at least text one of the two people that visit him every day.
Eggchan was sitting upright, still having tests run on him as he had just been awakened from a… three year coma.
It was after a school shooting that happened those few years ago. By a miracle, the bullet didn’t kill him. He doesn’t like thinking about that though. Wemmbu thinks that he should’ve tried harder to find his friend before he got found by someone else.
… At the time Wemmbu had only known his friend for a year or so, since he was put in a program for troubled students for most of his life.
Wemmbu already had friends in school when he transferred back. Not close friends, but acquaintances. People to run to when things felt a little too lonely. But he much more preferred being left alone than forcing himself to fit in with the others. Especially when they already had their own groups to hang out with.
He wasn’t smart like Parrot or Wifies. He wasn’t strong enough to hang out with Flame either (even though he’d never admit that.) He also wasn’t as crazy and humorous as Spoke or Mapicc. Yet somehow he managed to get along with Eggchan. Some weak boy that was somehow passing gym with a better grade than Wemmbu himself. Or maybe that’s because he skips the classes.
It was years ago, but he still recalled when Egg would stop him from doing things that would probably get him into juvenile detention. Like when he wanted to rob the local convenience store just to get a snack for the two of them.
In short, they were pretty close. And it hurt Wemmbu when he found out that Egg wasn’t going to wake up anytime soon.
Eggchan was still sitting there, staring at Wemmbu like he had seen a ghost.
‘Didn’t the bullet hit his brain? What if he doesn’t remember me…’
Wemmbu thought to himself, but ended up shaking the feeling of dread off. Worse case scenario after that is his own best friend starting to hate him.

“So you actually don’t remember me? Not even my name?”
Wemmbu persisted, trying not to get pissed- but it really was hard when they were both each other’s only real friends before anything happened. And now they have to start from scratch again? There’s no time. He’s almost graduating. Egg barely got to experience high school at all.
Some may say that it’s hard to get close to someone in a mere year, but to Wemmbu, it was the first time he had a real friend. Now it was certain that all hope was lost. Wemmbu didn’t exactly know how memory lost worked, but he wondered if it changed Egg’s brain chemistry and made his brain start to hate Wemmbu. The thoughts were shaken away when Egg started to talk. Slowly, he moved his mouth trying to get familiar with the feeling.
”Your face looks a little familiar.”
Egg mumbled. That gave Wemmbu a little reassurance that he could get Egg to remember him again. Certainly it wouldn’t be the same as before, but hopefully he could get it to work.
So, as Eggchan started to recover, Wemmbu started to hang around him more and more again. Egg acted like he did before, just a bit unfamiliar with Wemmbu’s presence… Since obviously one knew more about the other. So it was weird when Wemmbu would randomly predict the habits that he used to have before he fell into a coma.
Though, it felt like Wemmbu was a little… annoying. Not as in a Spoke way, but as in a way that he was trying too hard to get the friendship back to normal again. Though, Egg had a great understanding when it came to emotional feelings and how the brain worked. Paired with his observation skills, he could practically read minds.
Eggchan hated to say it, but he’d rather be on his own than have a troublemaker constantly on his side.
