Chapter Text
Katsuki Bakugou has the perfect life. He is the #1 Pro Hero, has a glorious penthouse, a bougie sports car, money to burn, and adoring fans all over the world. There isn’t anything in Great Explosion Murder God Dynamight’s life that could possibly be better. He has it all.
However, as of recently, it seems that some cracks have started to form in the foundation of his perfect life he’s built for himself. The first being the death of his childhood hero: All Might.
The news broke headlines a week ago, word that the once Symbol of Peace had passed away. Reporters claimed the cause of death was from a collapsing building. All Might heroically pushed a civilian out of the way, taking the hit instead. Nearby pros captured the culprit of the incident, but it was too late for the Plus Ultra hero.
Katsuki took the news hard. All Might was his symbol, his ultimate goal was to be like him. Hell, he even named himself in honor of the guy. Hearing about his death, happening so… casually, it unsettled him. Knowing that a person as strong as All Might could die just from falling debris, it sent chills down Bakugou’s spine. But hey, everyone would meet their end at some point, Katsuki just hopes that when he goes out, it’s at least in a grand, heroic fashion.
Dynamight didn’t allow the death of his hero to sway him too much though, needing to be on his best game to remain on the top of the charts.
It’s been seven days since All Might’s death, and Katsuki has had no problem throwing himself head first into more hero work, hoping the constant movement could help distract him from the twinge in his heart remembering his fallen hero.
It’s another basic morning for the blond, who just stepped foot out of his apartment building when he gets a call on his phone. Seeing that the ID is from Hawks, he answers.
“What is it?” He coldly replies, knowing that if Hawks is calling, it’s something major.
“Geez, you aren’t one for warm greetings, are ya, Dynamight?” The winged hero playfully teases.
“Why don’t we just cut to the chase, Hawks? It’s too early for dumb banter.”
“Yikes, harsh crowd,” Hawks obeys the explosive man’s wish. “I need you in my office as soon as possible. It’s important.”
“When isn’t it?” He says curtly, then hangs up without missing a beat, instantly, taking off in the direction of his destination. It only takes Bakugou a couple minutes to arrive, making a B-line straight to Hawks’ office. As he walks through the building, he notices everyone seems a bit on edge. Faint whispers being shared between workers, fidgeting of fingers and tappings of legs.
What the hell is going on? Katsuki wonders.
Dynamight makes his way to the meeting room, knocking on the door before barging in.
“Ah, you made it in good time! Glad to see you weren’t too lazy this morning,” Hawks jokes, sitting at his desk. Katsuki walks over to stand in front of him, getting a bit impatient.
“Alright, I’m here. What do you gotta tell me?” He places his hands on his hips, waiting to hear the reply.
“It’s not what I need to tell you, but more about what I need you to do.”
“Which is?”
Hawks slides a manila folder across his desk, filled with paperwork. Bakugou reaches down and grabs it, opening it up and scanning through.
“As I know you’re aware, All Might died a week ago.” Katsuki tenses up at the reminder, his fingers gripping the folder a bit tighter than before. “Even though he retired years ago, his death was seen as a major win to villains out there, making them think suddenly they can run the city without any consequences.”
“Tch, I already know all this. I’ve got a shit ton of bruises and scratches from patrols to show for it. The bastards think they can run around and take over.”
Idiots. Little do they know, I’ve been the one keeping things clean around the city for years, it’s what the #1 does.
“Exactly,” Hawks continues. “So chaos has been on the up these past few days. Nothing you haven’t been able to handle, though.”
“Look, as much as I don’t mind getting compliments thrown my way, can we get to the point?” Bakugou snaps.
The bird hero nods before saying, “Another one of those crazed villains tried to rob a grocery store last night. Luckily, no one was hurt.”
“You called me in here over a damn grocery store robbery?”
“Not exactly. The crime itself was nothing out of the ordinary. However,” Hawks folds his fingers together, leaning his elbows on his desk as he moves forward, gaining a serious tone in his voice. “Once our pro heroes arrived on the scene, they found the villain fighting somebody else. Turns out someone had taken the situation into their own hands.”
“Some civilians wanted to help out or something?” Katsuki closes the folder, focusing on the details the man in front of him is sharing.
“Something like that. The pro heroes on the scene said that the man who apprehended the criminal used a quirk to do so. The only problem is… when the man gave his name to authorities, he wasn’t listed as having any quirk in the registry.”
“So some guy thought he’d cheat the system by not registering. So what?”
“That’s not the only issue,” Hawks’ voice drops low. “Our heroes who were there also noted that the man was using more than one quirk.”
“What, like Icy Hot?”
“No. They said he was using multiple quirks, all different, all at the same time.”
A shiver of chills races down Katsuki’s spine at this knowledge.
“There’s no way. No one can have more than one quirk, that’s-!”
“There’s one more thing,” Hawks cuts Dynamight off, startling him at his sudden stern voice. “When asked about his quirk… the man said All Might gave it to him.”
Katsuki can’t help the small chuckle that escapes his lips at the statement from his boss.
“Pft, yeah right. The amount of people who come up to me on a daily basis and claim to be the ‘next All Might’ is too many to count. Don’t tell me we’re actually giving this All Might wannabe the time of day!”
Bakugou is attempting to hold back another laugh out of disbelief. He never would think that Hawks would be dumb enough to believe in a clout chaser, but here we are. Just as he’s about to make another snarky comment, the golden haired man’s response silences him.
“This is different,” Hawks’ tone is deep. Serious. Subtly… morbid.
“Wait… don’t tell me you actually believe this guy?” Bakugou questions.
Hawks sits back in his seat to explain, “The pros we had on site were quite spooked when they came back. Said they’ve never seen someone holding so many quirks at once. Said it scared them. So, we took the ‘hero’ into custody, drew some blood, ran some tests, and it’s true.”
“What is?”
“When the doctors scanned his foot, they found that he had two joints in his pinky toe, meaning that he was born quirkless. Yet somehow, all of my heroes saw him possessing multiple quirks.”
“This doesn’t make any sense.” Bakugou pinches the bridge of his nose. “You’re telling me a boy who was born quirkless suddenly shows up, saves the day with more than one quirk, says he got his power from All Might, and you all believe him?! You do hear how insane this all sounds, right?”
“I know how it comes across… but I also know what could happen if we miss out on this opportunity.”
W-what??
“Opportunity? What the hell are you talking about?”
“Think about it, Dynamight.” Hawks stands behind his desk, his chair rolling back away from him due to the speed of his rising. “If what this boy says is true, if we could have another future All Might on our hands, we’d be stupid to let him pass by. Or worse, let him end up in the wrong hands.”
Katsuki feels the heat rising in his stomach, his anger boiling over. He leans forward, placing both of his hands on the desk, attempting to ground himself as much as he can.
“He could be lying!”
“But what if he’s not. I’m sorry, but that’s not a risk I’m willing to take. And more than anything,” Hawks grabs his chair, sitting back down in it, assuming his casual tone, “that’s not your call to make.”
Bakugou’s eyes widen, he stands up straight again, realizing that he has been bested.
Damnit.
Katsuki sighs, closing his eyes to regain his cool. As much as he hates to admit it, Hawks is right, it isn’t his call. Being the #1 for so long has made him feel like he has to have control over everything, but some battles aren’t worth losing your head over. Especially when it’s clear that his boss isn’t going to back down.
“So what do you want from me, then?”
“I want you to lead a top secret mission.” Bakugou opens his folder once again to view the documents. “You would select your team to pursue this mission with you. Our blood test can only detect if a person has a quirk, not what it is, and with the little knowledge the boy has of his own abilities, we need you to find out what he’s capable of.”
“How the hell am I supposed to do that?”
“Through training. We’ll run some more tests to see if we can narrow down just how many quirks he possesses, but besides that, we’ll need you and your team to work with him to understand his abilities. On top of that, we need you to protect him.”
Protec- what??
“If word gets out that someone with All Might’s quirk is out there, every villain in the country will be after that kid. We need you to look over him, protect him, make sure he stays sa-”
“Count me out.” Dynamight tosses the beige folder on the desk in front of him.
“Excuse me?”
“I’m not a fucking babysitter. I’m the #1 hero for fucks sake, I’m not about to waste my time watching over some guy who’s probably lying about this whole thing!” He turns to exit the room. Hawks rises, reaching a hand out in hopes to stop him.
“Dyna-”
“No!” The blond turns back around to face the winged hero, taking a step back in closer to him, his finger pointed at his boss. “Anyone who pretends to know All Might when they didn’t doesn’t deserve a second of my fucking time!”
Oh.
Katsuki wasn’t sure why this is getting him so heated, but the moment those words slipped out of his mouth, it all made sense. He still hasn’t properly grieved his hero, and to hear that someone else might already be claiming to replace him? It’s enough to push him over the edge.
Hawks understands, the evidence of this written in his simple expression. He lets the moment simmer, Bakugou’s heavy breathing from his outburst slowing down.
Finally, the older man asks, “Do you trust me?”
Katsuki drops his hand, taken aback by this question.
“You know I do,” he answers honestly.
“Then let me say this one thing,” yellow eyes look deep into red, forcing the #1 to really listen to his every word. “If you’re so worried that this guy is lying, that he’s making this all up, that he never really knew All Might. If you’re so concerned about not knowing the answers… then why don’t you go ask him yourself?”
Ask him… myself?
“He’s in holding room three. Go see him and you tell me if you think he’s lying.” The boss sits back down in his chair, signalling that their conversation has come to an end, giving the pro hero no choice but to follow his orders.
Reluctantly, Bakugou does as he’s told. As much of a pain as Hawks can be at times, Katsuki still respects the hell out of him. If he wants him to talk to this boy so badly, then so be it.
By the time Dynamight arrives at holding cell three, he already has a list of questions in his head for what he’s going to ask the guy inside. Unfortunately for him though, the second he enters the room, every single thought in his head completely leaves him, and the only one that remains is:
Holy shit. This guy is fucking beautiful.
Bakugou doesn’t know if it is the unruly green hair, the constellations of freckles along his face, or the glimmering look in his emerald eyes, but the moment Katsuki Bakugou’s gaze locks on to Izuku Midoriya’s, his world shifts on its axis.
The holding room is a dark shade of blue, one metal bench lines the wall for whoever is inside to sit (not so) comfortably. On one side there is a two way mirror, but Katsuki opted to just enter the room without observing prior, and God, is he glad he did. If the first time he laid eyes on this man before him was behind a distorted screen, he would’ve never forgiven himself.
Izuku’s eyes go wide at the sight of the man who just appeared in the room, signaling to Katsuki that he has been recognized right away.
“A-are you… Great Explosion Murder God Dynamight?” The man asks, a familiar ring of awe that Katsuki is used to hearing from fans is obvious in his tone. However, the hero himself isn’t feeling much swifter. His heart is racing, his palms are sweaty - he’s lucky he doesn’t accidentally set off his quirk.
Keeping up appearances, he says, “Tch. What does it look like?” His voice is cold, not giving way to the hot feelings he’s experiencing inside.
“Oh my gosh, I’m a huge fa-!” Izuku attempts to move closer to his idol, but his hands are cuffed to a chain tied to the bench, pulling him back before he can move far. “O-oh, right. I would offer to shake your hand but, y’know.” He holds up the cuffs, laughing awkwardly at the situation.
Bakugou knows his temperature is rising, the room feeling 100 degrees suddenly. He walks to the opposite wall from the man, attempting to put as much space between them as possible.
“Funny that you’d think I’d shake your hand even with the cuffs off,” Katsuki blurts, resuming his harsh demeanor (that is totally not a defense mechanism for his internal feelings).
“I-I…” Izuku is at a loss for words at the taller man’s fierce reply.
“So,” Dynamight crosses his arms and leans against the wall, facing Izuku head on. “Here’s what’s gonna happen. You’re going to tell me exactly how you got your quirk and how you ended up here. If I find out you left even the smallest of details out, your ass will be sent to jail.”
“Jail?! But I didn’t even do anything!” Izuku protests.
“Villain or not, you still beat a man til he was knocked out using powers that you never documented with the quirk registry. That alone is a criminal offense.”
“B-but I-!”
“If you don’t wanna end up in prison, then I’d suggest you start talking.” Red eyes glare into green. The younger man gulps before taking a deep breath to begin his explanation.
“Well, you see, I was born quirkless - that’s why I never registered, I didn’t have anything to document. I was always a huge fan of All Might growing up, I wanted to be a hero so badly, but without a quirk, it’s near impossible. I decided to become a teacher instead since I still wanted to inspire people, just do it in a different way if I could-”
“I asked you to tell me about how you got your powers, not for your whole goddamn life story,” Bakugou interrupts.
“R-right!” Izuku chirps back. The blond knows he’s being brash with the guy, not giving him a chance before leaning into him. Truly, he knows he’s being extra hard on him because of the way Izuku’s making him feel… and it’s annoying him.
“So,” the teacher continues, “I was on my walk back from work last week when I spotted All Might in the street. He was by himself so I thought it might be a good opportunity to meet my idol, you know? I went up to him and asked for a picture, there was no one else around so I figured it was okay since it wouldn’t draw any attention. He agreed and we took a photo - oh man, it was so awesome! I set it to my lock screen right away cause it was so cool that a hero as strong as All Might would want to-!” Izuku stops, seeming to have noticed the glare from the pro across the room from him.
He clears his throat, looking down in embarrassment as he continues, “Anyway, after we took the photo, I decided to ask him a question I’ve always wanted to know.”
“Which was?”
Izuku looks back up towards Katsuki to reply, “I asked if he thought someone without a quirk could be a hero.”
Bakugou stills. His whole life, he had never really known many quirkless people, but he always assumed they just accepted their fate. Being quirkless meant being a hero was totally out of the picture. But this guy…
He’s different.
“Well? What did he say?” Dynamight asks.
“He… didn’t get a chance to reply.” Katsuki sucks in air, realizing where this story is heading. “The next moment, I was being pushed out of the way, and a huge piece of falling debris landed on All Might,” Izuku’s voice begins to shake, placing his hands on his knees, looking down at them. “It fell on his back and legs, leaving his chest and arms still free. I-I tried to call for help. I tried to get someone to save him. I even tried to lift the debris myself but… it was too heavy.” Tears begin to stream down freckled cheeks. “I told him I was going to leave to get someone, find a pro who could help save him, but he told me not to. Instead, he ripped out a piece of his hair and held it out to me. He told me to… to-” the younger man chokes back a sob.
Patience wearing thin, Katsuki says, “Told you to what?”
After a couple more sporadic breaths, Izuku answers, “He told me to eat it!”
Silence falls over the holding room. Bakugou is pretty sure even his heart has stopped beating at this statement, but after another second, he fills the space with laughter.
Izuku’s face curls up in confusion at the hero’s sudden outburst of giggles and chuckles that so drastically mirror the streaks of tears down his cheeks.
“You’re kidding me, right?!” Katsuki asks, rhetorically. “You’re really telling me that All Might, the symbol of peace, the greatest hero this world has ever seen, told you to eat his hair in his final moments alive?!” Bakugou breaks out into another fit of laughter, holding his stomach.
Izuku rises quickly, demanding, “I’m not joking! He really told me to eat his hair!”
“Oh yeah? And let me guess, you actually ate it?”
Red spreads quickly on the smaller man’s face as he looks away to reply, “Well, yeah. He was my hero, of course I would do what he told me!”
“God, how pathetic! I can’t believe you’d actually listen to something as dumb as-!”
“I had no other choice!!”
CLANG!!
The two men look back towards the source of the sound, realizing that the noise was a piece of the metal bench denting, pulling towards where Izuku had just moved his hands out of frustration.
Katsuki stares at this in a bit of awe. The cuffs are made with a special material that stabilizes all quirks, so if this man does have one, there’s no way he’d be able to use it. No, that dent came from brute strength alone.
Now that he looks at the man, Katsuki sees that he’s actually built as shit. For someone in a profession where muscles aren’t necessary, he certainly has more than his fair share.
Shaking his head so as to not get too distracted by the sculpted man in front of him, Bakugou asks, “What do you mean ‘no choice’?”
“I mean… All Might told me if I ate his hair, I’d gain his quirk. Said it was some power passed down through DNA he got from someone before him.”
A quirk that can be shared? Is that even possible?
“So, I listened to him. I took the hair and I ate it! I figured, if he’s lying, then I just ate the hair of my childhood hero, which is sort of gross, but it’ll be a good ice breaker.”
Bakugou places his hands on his hips, engaging back in the story by asking, “But if he was telling the truth?” Izuku looks deep into Katsuki’s eyes, causing the blond’s breath to hitch at the connection.
“Then I’d have what I’d always wanted… I’d have a quirk.”
To Katsuki, something as simple as having a quirk isn’t something he thinks about. Actually, he doesn’t think he ever thought about what it would be like if he didn’t have one, or had a different one. He is blessed with an amazing power, why waste time on hypotheticals?
But now, hearing first hand from someone who had been on the losing side his whole life… he hates to admit it, but for once, it’s putting his own life into perspective.
“So you ate his hair. All Might died. Then what?” The #1 hero questions.
“Well, that’s the thing, nothing happened.” Izuku slumps back down on the bench - the parts of it that aren’t dented, anyway. “For a week, I thought I had just consumed All Might’s DNA for nothing, but then…” Izuku fiddles with his fingers, recalling the events. “I went grocery shopping last night after work when I heard some kind of argument. I looked over and saw that there was some guy trying to rob the store. I-I freaked! I tried to find someone to help, or anything to stop the man, but there was no one around. I was ready to try to leave to save myself, but then I noticed that the clerk had a child with him. I couldn’t just let him hurt her! I wanted to do something to save her, so I…”
“Knocked the guy out?” Katsuki attempts to fill in the blanks.
“No. I… don’t know what happened, or how it did, but the next thing I knew,” Izuku looks down at his palms, “these black strings starting shooting out of my hands. They wrapped the bad guy up in a hold, bringing his arms to his sides, forcing him to drop his weapon. I-I had no control! I didn’t know what I was doing! He tried to escape, but then the things coming from my hands threw him against the wall. Just as fast as they appeared, they disappeared. After that, this pink smoke came out of nowhere, and as I tried to walk over to the man to see if he was okay, I started to feel light.”
“Like you were gonna pass out?”
“No, like physically light. I realized I had started floating! I didn’t know how to get down! But then, I felt this sharp pain in my head, and somehow, I knew it meant to watch out, so I moved, just as a gunshot rang by my ear. I was able to dodge it, and the smoke finally cleared, but I saw that the criminal was still awake, holding a gun. He turned it away from me and towards the little kid, so I rushed in and punched him! I didn’t mean to hurt him, I just wanted to stop him was all!”
“Reports say he had a broken jaw and missing teeth.”
“Y-yeah, somehow my punch was like super strong. I-I don’t know. But then, the pros showed up and well, I’m sure you know the rest.” The boy looks back up towards Dynamight.
“So you really think you got your powers from All Might?” He asks plainly.
“I don’t think… I know I did. There’s no other explanation.” The boy scratches the back of his head. “I, uh, know you two were close, so I don’t want you to think that I’m trying to replace you as his successor or anything! I’m really just a random guy who happened to be in the right place at the right time, I guess.”
Katsuki clenches his fists at this statement, taking steps in closer to the man currently sitting down.
“Right place? Right fucking time?” He towers over the shorter man on the bench, pointing his finger at him, accusingly. “If it wasn’t for you stopping All Might to ask him to take a photo, he never would’ve gotten hit by that debris and died!”
Izuku rises, matching Katsuki’s level to reply, “You don’t think I know that?! Do you not think I’ve thought about that every single day since it happened?! I was there, Dynamight! I had to watch him die, right in front of my eyes! He was my hero!”
“You didn’t even know him!!”
Izuku lowers his head, accepting a bit of defeat.
“Maybe not personally, but I do know the way he made me feel, the strength he gave me to continue on as someone who is quirkless in a world only suited for people with quirks. He made me feel like life still had some meaning.” Emerald eyes turn up to meet the taller man. Katsuki suddenly becomes aware of how close their proximity is to one another, faces only inches apart. “You made me feel that way too.”
“Me?” Bakugou asks, surprised.
“Yeah, you. I told you before, I’m a fan. You’re right that I didn’t really know All Might, so in my head, it’s easy for me to still idolize him, the same way I’ve idolized you. I thought you were so cool, the symbol of victory and winning for all. It’s a bit embarrassing to say to your face, but it’s how I feel.”
“You’re right,” Katsuki begins, he can’t help but note just how many freckles are covering the boy’s face.
God, I could spend all day counting those- Stop! What am I even thinking?!
Bakugou tilts his head before finishing off his response, “It is embarrassing.” Tossing aside any idea that Katsuki could give Izuku an actual conversation with one of his heroes, thrown away by the blond’s last statement.
The teacher sighs and backs up, sitting back down on the bench behind him.
“Look, send me to jail, keep me here, set me free, I don’t care anymore. I told you everything.” Izuku crosses his arms and looks off to the side, closing himself off.
Katsuki can’t blame him, it’s not like he’s been the kindest of company. He knows he’s gotten all he needs out of the boy, now he just has to make the decision whether or not to take on the mission. Still, something inside of him makes him not want to leave the holding room. Something feels like it’s pulling him to the man across from him, and the more distance he adds between them, the harder the force feels.
Luckily, Bakugou is strong willed, so he is able to go against this sensation, deciding to exit the room without speaking another word. He doesn’t dare look back at the man in chains either, knowing that if he did, he may not be able to leave as easily.
As the pro hero exits the room, he is surprised to find his boss right outside the door, no doubt having eavesdropped on his conversation inside.
“So,” Hawks begins, “what’dya think?”
What does Katsuki think? Truthfully, he has too many thoughts and feelings rushing around in his mind and heart at this moment that he isn’t able to think straight (in more than one way).
Bakugou sighs, saying, “Let me think about it.”
“Sure, but tomorrow morning, you let me know first thing.”
“Shit, you’re really on that tight of a schedule?” Katsuki asks.
“If we’re doing this, we gotta move fast. Either with you or someone else to lead the mission. Regardless, we’re doing this. Let me know in the morning if it’s going to be you who leads the charge.” And with that Hawks exits, walking back in the direction of his office.
I have until tomorrow… that should be enough time to make a decision.
What Bakugou didn’t realize was just how wrong he was going to be. During his whole career as a Pro Hero, he has never screwed up more times than he is during this patrol.
To his luck, he’s come across multiple villains and criminals, always his favorite kind of patrol, wanting to see some action to show off his skills. However, the entirety of his shift is thrown off, all because he is distracted. All because he can’t get a certain green haired, freckled teacher out of his head.
“Damnit!!” He shouts, his blasts missing their target on a criminal attempting to run away.
“I got you, man!” Dynamight hears Red Riot call out through his earpiece. Moments later, the villain is apprehended.
Shit! Bakugou curses himself, staring down at his palms. What the hell is wrong with me today?
“Bakugou!” Crimson eyes look up, and for some reason, his heart drops when he sees another pair of red eyes instead of emerald, as if that was even a possibility of happening at this moment. “What’s up with you, man? I’ve never seen you miss so many shots before,” Kirishima asks.
“Tch, it’s none of your business,” is all Katsuki can muster up to say. The rest of his shift goes on the same, missing hits, stumbling over his feet, you name it. The problem is, Bakugou’s mind is so far away from work and patrol, for the first time in his life, he’s thinking about something else. Someone else. He’s never been distracted before, and it doesn’t suit him well. The only problem is that he can’t help it. Every time he closes his eyes, a flash of green appears.
He sees the image of a beautiful, muscular man with a sweet smile and gentle voice run wild in his mind. He has to get smacked out of his thoughts to be able to come back to reality, and more times than not, that’s exactly what happens to him.
By the time his shift ends, he’s more than ready for it to be over. Through all of the gained bruises and scars from his day, he still hasn’t made up his mind about the mission.
Once he makes it back to his penthouse after showering and changing at his agency, he makes a quick dinner and then hits the bed without wasting a single second. The feeling of the soft mattress beneath him is euphoric enough that he almost knocks out the moment his head hits the pillow.
Finally, he sighs, closing his eyes, ready for sleep to wash over him… but it never does. Instead, the images of that freckled man overtake him. Just as they had distracted him from his work earlier, they are now keeping him from falling asleep.
Just great. Katsuki huffs. He’s never been affected by anyone like this before. It was just… annoyance. That’s what it had to be, right?
The damn nerd thinks he can waltz in and tell the #1 hero that he has All Might’s power?! Who the hell does he think he is! Even if he has the story to back it up, he’s still not a hero. Even though he looks like a hero… with those muscles… his white button up curling around his biceps when he flexes. Or how he dented the bench when pulling at the chains like it was mere twigs being snapped. Or when-
Fuck.
Bakugou pulls his pillow over his head, hoping it’ll somehow keep the lewd thoughts away… but it doesn’t. Not even for a second. Not for the whole night.
Once morning comes, Katsuki realizes he hasn’t gotten a single second of sleep, definitely not the way he wants to start off another hero shift.
That damn nerd with those stupid green eyes kept me awake all night. Stupid bastard.
Katsuku huffs his way through his morning routine before finally reaching Hawk’s building, Dynamight marches directly to his office, not caring to knock before entering. The bird hero takes one glance at him.
“Well don’t you look like you’ve had quite the night,” he teases, taking in his bags and dark circles. “Look, about the mission, I want you to know that I’ve discussed it with another hero.”
What? Why?
“I know you were a bit reluctant,” Hawks explains, “so I went ahead and filled NightHide in on our situation. He’s trustworthy so I know regardless he won’t spill. I figured with his brainwashing, maybe he’d be able to get something out of the kid that he may not even know himself. He’s been really proving himself recently too, so I’m sure-”
Hawks continues on his explanation of why Shinsou would be a good possible candidate to lead this mission. However, Bakugou can’t hear a single word of it, because his mind is already running wild.
Eyebags?? Hawks wants him to lead this mission? He’s never lead a mission in his life, and if this is as important as Hawks is making it out to be…
Suddenly, flashes of images appear once again in Bakugou’s mind, only this time, Izuku isn’t alone… no. Now, he’s accompanied by a purple haired brainwashing hero.
The two of them… working on this mission together? Spending every single moment of every single day together…
Katsuki’s chest begins to burn.
The two of them, having to fight each other, spar to learn about his abilities. The nerd’s strong muscles, being used on that brainwashing freak? His biceps… curling around NightHide’s throat to choke him out. Or maybe his thick thighs securing Shinsou’s legs together while he’s on top of him as they fight to-
Bakgugou can’t take any more. The imagery that his mind is torturing him with has caused him to reach his limit.
“So that’s why if you don’t want to, then he could-” Hawks continues on.
“I’ve made my choice,” Katsuki says bluntly, cutting him off mid-exploitation.
“Oh yeah? Which is?”
Bakugou takes a deep breath. He knows that once he says what he’s about to, that there’s no going back, but he’s made up his mind, and he’s stubborn if nothing else.
Finally, the blond answers, “I’ll do it.”
