Work Text:

You and Lady Dimistrescu had a Divorce, a few years after you've agreed to take the cadou; you were alive forever with no escape from life, you cried nights from then on and stayed as Miranda's assistant — you managed to get over the whole thing and get better, that until Miranda brings you to Alcina’s Wine Celebration — you stressed about it, trying to convince Miranda to leave you alone in the lab but– once she made her mind. You couldn't change it.

Going there was the breaking point; you fidgeted besides Mother Miranda inside the Carriage, trying to remain calm as the thoughts settled in — when you arrived you quickly stayed by Miranda's side and trying your best to avoid the Matriarch’s piercing gaze, You stood besides Mother Miranda as she spoke to the guests and other lords; till Lady Dimistrescu came by to have a talk.

You looked at her eyes, then down to her body– you were ogling her and wishing she wouldn't notice, but she always does. You observed some changes in her; her skin became more paler and circles started appearing below her eyes– but you weren't sure if it's just because of the chandelier on top of the living room.

Miranda then excused herself to refill her glass leaving you and Lady Dimistrescu alone. Shit, Miranda planned this. You tried to make small talk but that seems to have been to no avail.

“So..how are you?”

“I'm fine.”

That answer alone made you shiver– the coldness in her voice– The way she didn't bother taking up your question in her thoughts– this hurts.

“Do— you still remember why you married me..?” The words flew off your lips with no thoughts.

There was silence following after your words.

“No, I refuse to remember. But I do remember why I've divorced you.”

Your heart shattered once more, and you nodded mindlessly before excusing yourself to use the bathroom – and you swore you felt her devilish grin. And before you could've gotten far, she grabbed your wrist and pulled you back In front of her.

“I am poison that is wicked and kills, and you knew that.”

You trembled against her words, your mind drifting back to the foolish past.

“You knew from tales, you knew from the start on how difficult I could become and yet, you still cling on to your fantasies.”

Her fingers slowly wrapped around your throat, causing you to gasp.

“Even in my wildest nights, you stood strong beside me – causing yourself to be harmed in every moment.”

Her grip tightening rapidly — your breathing slowly becoming a struggle – the record player stopped playing and guests stood quiet at the corners; watching the scene.

You tried to speak up, to convince that this wasn't required but your lack of breath caused everything to hurt.

"You really thought you could change a beas—"

Miranda then stormed in. Finally,

“Alcina! Let go of her!” Mother Miranda hissed.

Alcina quickly dropped you and muttered under her breath as Mother Miranda glared at her, signaling for a talk. Alone.

Alcina didn't bother to look at you as she walked towards Mother Miranda — you sat there on the ground, panting for air while Donna Beneviento rushed up to you to help.
