Work Text:
Changbin often comments about knocking Seungmin up. Seungmin… doesn’t hate it.
It’s definitely a filthy, nasty breeding kink for them. But, sometimes, it’s also a silly little joke like all their other running gags. They laugh, and Changbin says he’s going to keep trying to get Seungmin pregnant until it sticks. He pounds into Seungmin and says he’s got to try again, because Seungmin would be so hot all bred with their pups. Seungmin arches and writhes and secretly wishes.
Seungmin is an alpha. He’s known that since he popped his first knot the summer before his first year of college. But he has always been a little different from his alpha peers.
For one, he likes bottoming a lot—more than topping. Seungmin would rather feel Changbin buried inside of him, holding Seungmin’s knot firmly in his strong hands, than basically anything else in the world.
Another difference has always been his scent- sweeter than an alpha’s typical pheromones. Since mating with Changbin, whose bitter dark chocolate scent perfectly blends with his candied almond, he’s come to love it. In his early years of presentation, he had been self-conscious, always feeling different. Other. But he has come to love himself, seeing his own worth through the eyes of those who love him.
When Changbin starts cracking jokes regularly about breeding Seungmin and filling him with pups, Seungmin finds that he privately longs for that to be possible. It’s an odd feeling, having your gender expression mismatch with your urge for parenthood. It’s a dysphoria that he didn’t think he’d have to cope with until he met the love of his life and started having these feelings.
Seungmin knows Changbin would eventually be willing to become pregnant to give them a child one day. But he isn’t excited about pregnancy either. Changbin’s strength and fitness routine have always been a source of pride, and he knows his mate is uncomfortable with the idea of having his toned abdomen stretched around a growing pup.
Seungmin, however, who shouldn’t have any urge, feels like having his belly round with Changbin’s baby would be the ultimate gift. When they fuck, Changbin whispers filthy things in his ear about “filling you up until it takes” and “bitching you until I get you pregnant. It’s more than just a kink for Seungmin. He wishes that he could actually be bred.
When Seungmin first starts throwing up, he thinks he’s got a virus. The slightest scent in the air makes his stomach roil. Changbin dotes on him, coming home from work with electrolyte drinks and kissing his forehead. He takes Seungmin’s temperature, and it's normal. No other symptoms except maybe a bit of an ache in his stomach, and some fatigue. Seungmin figures he’ll sleep it off and feel better in the morning.
When he fails to recover, waking the next day only to have his stomach turn at his usual cup of coffee, he decides a trip to the doctor is in order.
Seungmin makes an appointment and heads down to the local clinic. He sits in the waiting room, playing on his phone, waiting for his name to be called. When he looks up, he sees a female omega holding her tiny baby. The child has chubby cheeks and a sweet, tiny nose. She’s pink and lovely and perfect. Seungmin suddenly has the urge to cry. What’s wrong with him today? He’s glad he’s wearing a mask because he doesn’t want to risk making that perfect little angel sick with whatever strange bug has got him.
“Kim Seungmin,” the nurse calls at the door, and Seungmin casts one more longing look at the tiny princess before heading in.
They take a urine sample and draw blood work. The doctor enters, and she examines Seungmin’s eyes, nose, ears, and throat, as well as his abdomen. No tenderness there. A bit on his chest, but that may be just from working out with Changbin. He’s actually feeling alright at the moment. Maybe he’s getting better.
“When was the last time you had a physical?” the doctor asks, her eyebrow raised.
Too long ago, Seungmin realizes. He didn’t mean to neglect his health, but with university and his internship taking up a large chunk of his time, and Changbin taking up the rest, it hasn’t been a priority. “It’s probably been about two years,” he admits sheepishly.
The doctor smiles, unsurprised. “Well, had you been to see us earlier, we would have been able to pick up some things in your routine tests.”
Seungmin listens, unsure where she’s going with this. “Okay…”
“Have you ever heard the term intersex?”
Seungmin nods, baffled. “Just a bit,” he says, honestly. He’s heard of female alphas who can occasionally carry children, and of male omegas born without wombs. There are some anomalies among human beings.
“Well, it’s rare, but occasionally alphas will have the ability to carry children. These alphas will not produce slick like an omega. They will not have normal presentation of heat cycles, but they can hold a pregnancy,” the doctor informs him. “It’s more common in female alphas, due to their physical biology and primary gender expression, but it will also sometimes occur in male alphas as well. We can see these anomalies in bloodwork and confirm with ultrasound exams.”
Seungmin continues to nod. Slowly. Carefully. Why is she telling me this?
The doctor continues, her face neutral. “As you already know, male omegas are typically able to impregnate other omegas and betas. But in these rare cases, they will be able to impregnate an intersex alpha if they have the capability of becoming pregnant.”
Seungmin stares. He blinks. He clears his throat. “Ahem, Doctor, erm… are you trying to tell me that the blood test says I can get pregnant?”
The doctor smiles, patiently. “Kim Seungmin-ssi, I am telling you that you are pregnant.”
Seungmin has to lie down for about twenty minutes. The doctor performs an ultrasound to confirm. He is approximately ten weeks along. He calls Minho to pick him up and drive him home.
Seungmin isn’t a great cook, so he orders takeout. He takes some deep breaths and prepares himself for Changbin’s arrival home from work, laying out some plates and cutlery.
It’s just a normal Friday night. Changbin texted to see how he was feeling a half-hour ago, and said he’d be home by six.
Minho and Jisung had both been there with him until about five minutes ago. He needed the support because Seungmin is freaking out. As much as Seungmin wants to have a baby with Changbin eventually, he is not prepared for an unplanned pregnancy. He is not prepared for a pregnancy at all, actually.
He knows Changbin cracks jokes about breeding him and filling him with pups, but that was always a joke. It was a biological impossibility. A mere fantasy.
When he heard the tiny whoosh whoosh whoosh of their baby’s developing heart today, reality came crashing down.
He hears the key twist in the lock and braces his hands on the counter. Breathe in. Out. In. Out.
“Hey, baby, I’m home!” Changbin calls cheerfully. He puts down his bag and slips off his shoes in the hallway.
“How are you feeling?” Changbin asks, leaning in to kiss Seungmin on the cheek.
“A lot better,” Seungmin answers, forcing himself to smile and remain calm. Luckily for him, Changbin sees the takeout and is distracted before he can notice anything. He grabs the containers and plops down in his usual spot, Seungmin following. Changbin doesn’t notice the envelope he’s got in his hand.
“It smells great,” Changbin starts popping lids off of the containers and piling food on his plate. “Rice?” he offers, spoon hovering over Seungmin’s plate. Seungmin nods, watching Changbin serve him. He loves this man so much.
Seungmin clears his throat. He’s going to have to rip the band-aid off and do this before he loses too much nerve. Changbin’s shoveling food into his mouth, blissfully unaware of his panic.
“So I went to the doctor today,” Seungmin begins. Changbin freezes with his fork halfway to his mouth.
“What did he say?” Changbin asks, his eyes concerned. He’s always been too good at reading Seungmin, and this is no different. “Is it a virus?”
Seungmin chuckles, looking down. “Not quite.”
Changbin waits, slowly resuming his meal. “So what’s up?”
Seungmin takes a deep breath and steels himself. Better to just say it. “I’m pregnant.”
Changbin laughs and takes another scoop of rice into his mouth. “Hahaha, I wish! I’ll keep trying though, baby,” he says with a wink.
Seungmin keeps quiet, waiting patiently for Changbin to realize he’s serious. Changbin furrows his brow, sensing that Seungmin isn’t kidding.
“You’re serious,” Changbin says, his voice taking on a calmness that puts Seungmin on edge.
Seungmin nods. He feels tears in the corners of his eyes.
He had dreamed about one day choosing to have a child with Changbin and being overjoyed. He’d fantasized about throwing their arms around each other and spinning around, picking out names, designing a nursery, and having a big, gaudy shower with all of their favorite people.
Now he’s accidentally knocked up when he’s not even supposed to be able to, and Changbin doesn’t believe him.
Seungmin continues, slowly, carefully. “The doctor ran some tests. It turns out I’m some sort of intersex. I can knot, but I also have a womb. I can carry children. I… I am. I’m about ten weeks.”
Seungmin lifts the envelope he’s been gripping in his hand and slides it across the table.
Changbin’s mouth falls open. He hesitates, and then grabs the envelope, touching it so gently it’s as if he’s trying to diffuse a bomb. He opens it and delicately pulls out the glossy papers with their black-and-white images. Their little alien-bean-looking fetus is printed in the center.
Changbin doesn’t speak. He might not even be breathing.
“Binnie?” Seungmin asks softly. “Baby, hyung, are you alright?”
When Changbin looks up, his eyes are wet. Seungmin’s stomach flips. Oh.
Seungmin wrings his hands in his lap. “I’m so sorry, baby. I really had no idea. I know we aren’t ready for a baby yet, and we always expected things to go differently—”
“You’re pregnant,” Changbin interjects, voice too calm.
“Erm… yes,” Seungmin says, brows furrowed in confusion.
“I got you pregnant,” Changbin says, in that same, strange, detached way,
Seungmin nods, unsure what to say.
Changbin suddenly tips his head back and lets out a shout that will likely get them a noise complaint from the neighbors. “I KNOCKED YOU UP!” he crows, voice deafening.
When he looks back at Seungmin, his face is lit up in the biggest smile Seungmin has ever seen.
Seungmin can't help but shake his head and roll his eyes, even as they fill up with relieved tears. Of course, Changbin is happy about this. This is them. They are soulmates, in every sense of the word.
Seungmin giggles, “You said you would. You kept trying.”
“And I won!” Changbin exclaims. “I defied the odds! I put a baby in that sweet ass. I filled you up real good.”
Seungmin punches his arm, and Changbin laughs even harder.
“You’re lucky I love you, you deranged maniac,” Seungmin says, fondly.
“I have to call everyone we know, right now.” Changbin declares, jumping to his feet. He grabs Seungmin, pulling him from his chair to wrap him in strong arms. He kisses Seungmin all over his face with loud smacking sounds, until Seungmin pulls away, wrinkling his nose. Seungmin looks down into Changbin’s eyes, grinning.
“I love you so much,” he says, and it’s soft and mushy, but they’re having a baby, and everything is going to be okay.
Changbin looks like he just won the lottery, and Christmas came early at the same time. “How did I get so lucky?” he asks.
“Right back at you,” Seungmin replies, and they settle in to FaceTime Felix and Hyunjin.
Hyunjin’s excited screams can probably be heard from space.
And they live happily ever after. The End.
