Chapter 1: 1 chapter - Unexpected Meeting

Notes:

Privet! English isn't my first language, so some sentences might sound a bit goofy... but maybe that's actually a plus? 🤔

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

Falling was quite scary: especially considering that falling while knowing a huge and terrifying armored knight who smells like sushi is chasing you.

Frisk sniffled, getting up from the golden flowers that had softened her fall. And only stepping into the darkness did she realize her feet were completely soaked. From the numerous piles of garbage and the slightly stale smell, you could quickly figure out what this place was—a junkyard.

It was... Enormous! Piles of garbage stretched here and there, but they had their own peculiar system: dry garbage sat on wooden planks next to electronics in a different heap, and there were inexplicably too many mailboxes that were in the process of being painted. Someone meticulously painted them, carefully matching colors.

The quiet squelch of her footsteps echoed through the silence of the room... Until suddenly other footsteps followed hers: they definitely weren't her steps, but they stubbornly pretended to be. She turned around a couple of times, trying to find the culprit, but they never appeared, and then she was grabbed by the edge of her sweater!!!

To: HUMAN?!
Wow-wow-wow?!?!
From: S.

Before her stood a monster comparable to her in height, in a dark cloak, a mailman's hat, and glasses with one broken lens. He had a wide smile, but it didn't inspire confidence! Frisk stepped back, wanting to run, but the battle had already begun!!

To: Human
I can't believe it! So Tenna wasn't lying. You're really in the underground! What luck! What great luck!
From: S.

The monster before her fell silent for a moment, then spoke again.

To: Human!!!!
The last soul! And we will be free! The sky. THE SKY IS SO CLOSE!
From: S.

The monster began to attack. Unopened envelopes flew, waiting for their sender. Was it even right that he could attack with such envelopes?...

You tell Spamton that his envelopes are too sharp and this violates mail safety regulations.

Spamton freezes, his lens glasses gleam.

To: Human!!!!
The last soul! We apologize for the inconvenience!! Please fill out form $4.99. We will try to make your death more comfortable!!!
From: S.

Spamton's attack slows down and the envelopes begin to fly more carefully, not as chaotically as before. The red heart no longer frantically mashes keys trying to escape the attacks.

You find an old sticker covered in glitter in your pocket and offer it to Spamton as a rare stamp.

To: Human!!!!
The last soul! This... Limited edition?! Where did you get this treasure?!

Tenna will be thrilled when she sees it!
From: S.

Spamton stops attacking for one turn, carefully examining the "stamp." Frisk manages to drink some punch.

You tell Spamton that he's the fastest and most reliable mailman you've ever seen, and that his blue cloak suits him very well.

To: Human.
...
From: S.

His face expressed a mixture of some incomprehensible horror, disgust, and shock.

It seems he's not interested in that... You felt awkward.

The attacks became much sharper!!! Letters flew like birds, flapping their wings, and mailboxes sucked in to deal half your HP!!!

"SPAMMY! Stop attacking the human!!!"

There were explosions and a tall robot with a television for a screen burst onto the battlefield. The mailman flew behind the screen.

"HUMAN!!! I beg your pardon for this revolting performance! I am Tenna, Mister (Ant) Tenna, at your service. An AI capable of satisfying any of your requests!" He moved closer, black sequins from his suit glittering. "What were you doing on our junkyard?! Are you looking for something..." He moved even closer. "For example... something pirated?"

To: Metalhead
What are you doing?! Grab the human!
From: S.

The mailman bursts back onto the field, his clothes slightly singed by the explosions. Tenna looks displeased at being interrupted.

"Spammy! He could be our new potential customer! Human... He might know so much about what kind of business exists on the Surface!"

The mailman freezes in shock, then starts waving his hands.

To: Tenna
Is some business more important than THE SKY?!
From: S.

"I didn't mean that at all! We can extract information and then bring it to the King!"

The mailman begins waving his hands even more actively.

They started arguing and completely stopped paying attention to Frisk... This was her chance to escape!

She immediately leaves, noticing how the tall robot winks at her with nonexistent eyes.

How did he do that?

Notes:

A quick note on the structure: The first 4 chapters are integrated into the main Undertale plot with Frisk. The final 3 chapters are bonuses that focus entirely on Spamton and Tenna themselves, diving deeper into their characters and bond.

If you want to see how I personally imagine them in this AU, you can check out my sketches here: https://www.tumblr.com/sumochkadear/815242413635403776/sketches-ut-spamtenna-for-my-fanfic-airwaves?source=share.
