Blanket forts and summer

Summary:

Blanket forts and binge watching anime were new concepts to Reo which Bachira was more than happy to introduce him to. Still, blanket forts during summer was a questionable choice.

Work Text:

Bachira’s hair was all frizzed up from the rough toweling he’d given it as he left the bathroom, and somehow he glowed brighter than usual thanks to the mist from the shower flushing his sun-kissed skin. He grinned as he watched Reo hover around his desk, clearly looking and feeling out of place. Reo was more than delighted when Bachira had invited him over for a sleepover, it felt like his first taste of the life he’d always heard his peers rave about.

In Reo’s eyes, Bachira could pass as the textbook definition of wild and carefree, maybe even a little childish. Maybe exactly what Reo needed. He’d never been to any of his friends’ places before, he was sure more people would ask if not for him keeping his perfectly calculated arm-length distance from mostly everyone but Nagi. He was surprised by how small Bachira’s home was, and his room was half the size of Reo’s ensuite bathroom (He just has a bigger bathroom than he needed, Bachira’s room is not that small). “Just sit on the bed!” He’d said, earning a raised brow from Reo.

“Where exactly do you sleep if everything in your room is on your bed?” which was a reasonable question all things considered. All things being that Bachira’s bed was more art supplies, plushies, blankets and other knickknacks than bed.

“I have the perfect idea!” Bachira perked up.

“Oh yeah? What is it?” Reo just went along with it because he was sure that there was never a dull moment with this bee. “We should make a blanket fort!”

And so they made a blanket fort.

The only two things holding it up being a creaky chair and a suitcase (don’t ask) that shifted every time they did. Yuu brought in some pineapple and tangerines for them to eat, her smile hospitable as she ignored her son being inside a small space made up of a bunch of pillows and blankets with his friend, the pair flushed (summer amirite?) and sweaty.

The fairy lights dimly lit the room just enough for them to binge watch 12 episode animes that will likely never get a season two and are also most likely (translation: are) queer, without straining their eyes. Reo seemed to be getting really invested, and at one point Bachira was more interested in watching Reo’s reactions than the screen, smiling sleepily and leaning his head against Reo’s shoulder.

His face was so soft that Reo could feel it through his cotton shirt, making his breath stutter. He did not learn in this lifetime what he was supposed to do when someone other than Nagi leaned on him, wanted to be close to him.

Nagi was clingy in his own way that Reo was used to (maybe even picked it up from him).

But now Reo wasn’t sure where to put his hands, afraid of shifting in a way that would make Bachira uncomfortable, but clearly he was worried over nothing as Bachira was already shifting and making himself comfortable under Reo’s arm like a cat, zero regard for his increasing heart rate.

“Mmn… Reo, wanna sleep…” he mumbled deliriously, to which Reo shut the laptop lid so fast even Bachira was taken aback for a second.

“We can sleep-” His heart was threatening to beat out of his chest as Bachira snuggled close enough for his hair to tickle his chin, smelling faintly of citrusy shampoo. And for his coup de grace, he threw his leg over his. Wow. Is this what all the hype about sleepovers was for?

Bachira was already fast asleep by the time Reo decided that his friends were not lying about how great sleepovers were. Not long after, Reo fell asleep to the sound of Bachira’s light snores (how endearing).
