Work Text:

Pre-Hungary Rebellion

Guillermine got married when she turned 20, in 1324. She had a normal reputation as leader, but rathered in without saying a word.

The first days of their marriage, she and Askalon spent the time drinking birch water as they knew each other more.

"So.. You tried to do paganism in secret when you were younger but stopped because of the religion here?" She asks while she takes a sip of it.

"Yes. As you may know, the religion in places like this is orthodox so you must obey more rules in order to "live a decent life"

"That's interesting." None of them look at each other's eyes. They didn't say much to each other in the romantic or sexual sense (like if there was some grudge on each other or something)

"I'll go to the balcony and think for a while. I'll see you in a couple of hours" The british royal fixes her dress and walked away.

"I wonder what is she doing right now.." Her thoughts were all questions "Will it rain?" "Are the subjects alright?" "What will the future of the country be? Good or bad?"

At this point she was disociating, her view was focused on a random point. That, until she heard a male voice

"Is everything ok?" The novgorodian asked in a hint of worry.

"I'm alright, it's just.. something about me. Don't mind me Askalon."

"Tell me if you want to. If not, you can say it at any time."

...

"You can trust me" The slav holds his wife's hand, hoping she understands

"Do you really?" Guillermine side-eyes him.

"Of course, you are my wife after all"

"Ok.." That was the first smile ever that he caused on her ever since they met.

After that day (it took some months to reach this point) the couple smiled at each other more, they'd talk more about their problems, they helped organizing political stuff together.

But they had one rule they shared strictly: To keep our blood pure, we'll never do the deed with each other.

Yes, they kissed, but never went too far. Somewhere in  early 1325 they fostered a 7 year-old from nobility. Despite the fact he couldn't become the prince, he decided to be a priest instead.

During Rebellion

The principality was strangely peaceful, despite there weren't attacks, soldiers were set to guard the frontiers to make sure there's no danger nearby.

In the meantime, the child has been learning about the orthodox religion, showing firmly his devotion to The Lord.

One day, the neighbour territory, after several tense situations, war was declared upon Nóvgorod.

Before the army parted away, Guillermine was finally going to say what she had been hiding for 3 years.

"Askalon, can we talk? It is really important." She asks in a bit of worry.

"What is it, Guillermine?" The man asks.

"This is what I haven't told you about since that day.. When you asked me what was I thinking of it was of a woman I knew. Her name is Érzsebet Okoscz-Hunyädi of Hungary, I haven't heard much of her ever since she got married in 1321, maybe one letter or two but she disappeared overnight and.." She stopped, this what she was trying NOT to say.

"And..?"

"i have feelings for her.. i have for a long time. I'm sorry Askalon." She sobs softly, afraid of getting attacked, but instead she just heard an "Ok"

"W-what?"

"Ok. If that makes you happy. I'll be ok with it"

"sigh Listen, if I never come back and if by some chance, I hope not, the enemies burn the place to the ground, you and Onfim shall run away and follow your own paths."

"Thank you, now you can go." She bows in respect, in a way to say "Good luck, I hope you come bacm."

They day they left with the army, Guillermine couldn't stop looking at the horizon, praying to god on her knees that Askalon is safe.

Post-Hungary Rebellion

Rumors went around town that in a place far away, a royal was murdered by its people and flesh eaten.

They called it the "Warth Day"
