Work Text:
“Where is Chris anyway?” Sherry asked over the intercom.
“No idea,” Leon answered. “I’m sure I’ll run into him at some point.”
Leon wasn’t really sure about the last part. Chris had been avoiding any contact with him since this whole thing started. Ignoring every text and every call. Leon was annoyed. More annoyed than Chris usually made him.
Leon took out his phone, he had decided to text him anyway.
Mission over. I’m fine, no injuries.
Leon put his phone back for now. He should go check on Grace.
Leon was walking back after a brief conversation with Grace. He decided to check his phone. The text had been read, but no reply. Leon could feel the annoyance starting to bubble up into something more. Maybe he was too subtle. Chris didn’t always understand subtlety, he was more muscle then brain.
Leon pulled off the glove from his left hand so he could put his ring back. He was relieved he could wear it again. Once the black marks had appeared it had become too painful to keep the ring on. But Leon’s hand was back to normal. No black marks, normal skin that didn’t hurt anymore. Showing it should be easier to understand. Leon took a picture of his healed hand and sent it to Chris.
Almost instantly it showed as read.
No reply.
No moving dots.
I’m gonna kill him, Leon thought to himself.
So now what.
The mission was over so Leon should be trying to find a way to get out of here. This was going to be a lot of paperwork, but he could probably deal with that tomorrow.
Interrupting his thoughts were the sound of an engine for some ways out. As the sound got closer Leon started to recognize it. That sounded like the engine of his car. The car he had left in the middle of Raccoon City.
Leon watched as a black SUV came into view.
As the car made a turn around the area to find a place to stop the numberplate became visible. ND-9642. It was his car.
There was only one other person who had a key to that car.
That person had just gotten out of said car and was calmly walking over to Leon.
“Where the fuck have you been!?”
Grace had been watching as a car had pulled into the rescue area. Out of the car stepped a darkly clothed, kinda scary looking man. The unknown man was walking over to Leon, maybe they know each other?
The next thing Grace could see was Leon yelling at the other man. They must know one another, you wouldn’t yell like that otherwise. Should someone try to stop this before this escalates?
Just as Grace had that thought it was already too late.
She watched as Leon punched towards the unknown man. But the punch didn’t land, the other man had caught Leon’s fist. Wow, that’s some good reflexes. But he didn’t catch the kick to the ribs that quickly followed. Grace could see the other man stumble slightly, but he was still standing. That must have hurt.
Before Grace could really react to the whole situation Leon was walking back up to her.
“W-w-who’s that?” Grace barely managed to get the question out as Leon got close enough to her.
“That is captain Chris Redfield” Leon said, still angry.
Grace recognized the name but her brain was too jumbled to make any connections at the moment. Leon seemed to be picking up on her lack of understanding and continued. “Of the BSAA. The guy who sent his crew to save us.”
OK, but then why was Leon mad at him? Saving the two of them was a good thing, right?
“The guy who’s been ghosting me for over a month.” Leon said as he glanced over his shoulder at the man Grace had just learned was called Chris Redfield.
“Babe?” Chris shouted as he had almost caught up to the others.
Leon turned back to look at Grace.
“My stupid ass husband.”
Huh! Grace thought to herself. Well I guess that makes sense. Leon had a valid reason to be angry.
“Babe!” Chris had finally caught up. “Why are you mad?”
“Why am I mad?” Leon was looking at the other man in disbelief. “Chris, I haven't seen or heard anything from you since August!”.
“What?” Chris looked confused. “I let you know I was going to be away for a while.”
“YOU LEFT A NOTE ON THE FRIDGE!”
“You were sleeping, I didn’t want to wake you.”
Leon let out a long sigh. Grace thought it looked like some of the irritation left with that exhale.
“Fine,” Leon took a deep breath. “But why didn’t you call or text at any time for the last 5 weeks?”
“It was more like 6 weeks.” Chris answered.
Grace felt kinda awkward sitting between the fighting couple.
She wasn’t sure if Chris’ response was making things better or worse.
“6 WEEKS!” Leon was sounding more annoyed again. “And you couldn’t answer a text once? You read every single one of them right away, but couldn’t even send a thumbs up!?”
“How did you know I read your texts?”
Leon was too tired for this.
He didn’t have any words or any energy left to deal with this. He turned to Grace silently begging for some support.
“Um,” Grace started to explain to Chris, “you can see in the app when someone has read the message you sent.”
An awkward silence followed.
Leon looked over to Chris’ face. He looked like a confused puppy. It was kinda adorable. Leon could feel the anger calming inside him.
He was cured of the infection. He had his husband back. And his car back as well. Hang on, why did he have his car back?
“Chris, how did you find my car?” Leon looked at him with a puzzled expression.
“Well I could see from the tracker where you’d left it, so I went and got it.”
“...”
“...”
“You put a tracker on my car?”
Leon wasn’t sure he had heard that correctly.
“Yeah, your missions are always classified. How else am I gonna know where you are?”
Leon wasn’t sure if he should be happy or pissed about this.
Was his husband tracking him something sweet? Or disturbing? Both?
Leon let out another sigh.
He walked up to Chris and grabbed the front of his coat.
“You’re a fucking idiot Redfield.” Leon said and pulled the older man in for a kiss.
Letting go of the coat, Leon reached into Chris’ pocket and pulled out the car key.
“I’m still mad at you.” Leon said as he walked away towards the parked SUV.
Chris was standing frozen in place. Like his brain had glitched.
“If you’re not coming I’m leaving without you.” Leon shouted over his shoulder.
Chris seemed to unfreeze at that.
He gave a quick nod to Grace and started sprinting back to Leon and the parked car.
