Chapter Text
Iso loved drama club when he was younger, so he was eager to step into his new role as Sherifs right hand man. He often tends to get a little caught up in the excitement of a character role but there’s no room for bloopers here since this is real life.
He is nervous about partnering up with Kocari but Oruc convinced him that this is the only way they get to live a peaceful existence. They need to find the weapon and send their uncle back to prison. This is the only way his family can remain whole. No more killing, no more bloodshed.
Iso looked across the room to where Fadime Kocari was standing. She looks so devasted as she wipes away tears from her cheeks as my grandmother is begging her brother to stick to our deal and not kill my uncle. I’ve never seen her look so vulnerable and small before. Yes, she’s petit but she has such a commanding presence and so much fire in her eyes that she usually takes up the entire room. It’s hard to notice anyone else in any room she occupies.
My grandmother is leaving to go check on my uncle and my mother is clearing her throat loudly. Please God, don’t let her rile Kocari up.
“Hey Kocari, lets seal this deal”
“Seal it?” says Adil, “what seal?”
“What is a seal? Marriage of course!”
My head snaps up, Kocari is looking at me. Oh no! they’re going to embarrass me again. I need to interject before anyone else says anything
“No! There will be no such thing in this life!” I say
“Forget about it! Forget it! Shouts Fadime at the same time
“Mashallah, these two are also very enthusiastic” Adils voice is dripping with sarcasm
“I’m not talking about these two idiots” continues my mother
“Then who?”
My mother is looking at Oruc. He looks so annoyed, this is hilarious. I can’t wait to tease him about it when we go home.
“Iso is young and immature, but Oruc is older, a doctor and he is the Furtuna Reis, He’ll make a much better match for Fadime”
Everyone turns to look at Oruc but I can’t take my eyes of Fadime. Why isn’t she protesting? My jaw is tense. Everybody is silent. So, it’s me? It’s not that I’m a Furtuna that’s her problem but that I’m an immature screw up instead of a handsome doctor.
Fadime looks from Oruc to Adil.
“I’ll think about it” then she walks out the room followed by her brother.
“Anne, What’s wrong with you?” Oruc is complaining
“What?” retorts our mother “our business with Sevcan is over, you need to think like a Reis. That girl is Kocari’s heir. Your sons will inherit all their land, their business and their private plane”
“Not everyone has the luxury of marrying for love. We do it for duty. And you have a duty as Reis.”
Iso could feel a stinging sensation at the back of his eyes. He closed them and took a deep breath.
“I’ll see you’ll back at the house. I have business to attend to.” I looked at Oruc one last time and left.
